Hello for all!

Frost finally went down, today about -20 behind the window, it's good, but now there's also a wind :)
It was very cold all week. I drove on the wife car, which was in the garage, in the garage -25, on the street about -40. Every morning I walked behind the car, took my son to a kindergarten, and then went to work. On thursday I decided to do some photos for you in Krasnoyarsk.

Shuttle bus by brand "LIAZ" (Likinsky Bus Plant)
Bus ticket cost 22 rubles / 0,5$.
In such frosts many refuse personal transport in favor of the public. The Metro in Krasnoyarsk has not yet been built (although it was built in 1995, now the construction is suspended due to lack of financing).
Buses in such frosts also run with interruptions because the equipment does not withstand such a load.
The best thing is to sit warm and drink hot tea or coffee :)

Gostiny Dvor building, Krasnoyarsk
The building of the Gostiny Dvor houses the State Archives of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The stone building of the Gostiny Dvor at Starobazarnaya Square in Krasnoyarsk (now Karl Marx Street, 6) was built in place of the wooden one in 1865. It was made in the style of late classicism.

The need for the construction of the Gostiny Dvor in Krasnoyarsk arose in the first half of the 19th century. Then all city trade was conducted on Starobazarnaya Square near the Resurrection Cathedral. Merchants erected on the square wooden buffoons, which by the end of the 1820's. ceased to meet the needs of the city. Owners of booths were invited to contribute to the fund for the construction of living rooms. Then, the rent for rent in the booths began to flow into this fund. Gostinnodvorskiy capital was placed in growth, and by 1850 the capital had grown to 170 thousand rubles.
*@#$
The first project in 1844 proposed the architect Rachinsky - in his version it was a one-story building. Later, the architect Y. Nabalov made amendments to the project, and in connection with the construction of the second floor, the city architect V. Bityutsky made additions to the project. The building was built from 1857 to 1865. The cost of construction amounted to 56 thousand rubles.

The Gostiny Dvor belonged to the city society. On the first floor there were 17 shops and an exchange hall, on the second floor - public and private places. In the basement there were warehouses. From 1874 to 1881 the second floor was occupied by the provincial archive. From 1904 to 1929, the Krasnoyarsk Territory Museum was located in the Gostiny Dvor building, and since 1929 the Yenisei central book depository. Currently, the building houses the State Archives of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

To date, the building has undergone significant changes: all the archways of the galleries have been laid, chimneys, gutter pipes with pommels, parapet bollards, a tetrahedral dome of a pipe have been lost, three entrances to the basement have been dismantled.

By the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 1995, the building of the Gostiny Dvor in Krasnoyarsk was included in the list of objects of cultural heritage of federal significance.

I came to a firm that sells cash registers ("online cash registers"), their office is located in the very center of Krasnoyarsk, next to the theater square, the city administration and the "communal" bridge.

Incredible pictures! The story on the building is very interesting.

But I have two comments:

1 The speedometer of your car was showing too much speed for taking pictures.

2 Don't show us pictures of yourself without the toothpick or match stick in the mouth. It destroys our image of you.

I took the photo as safely as possible, on a straight stretch of road and around there were no cars.
Toothpick forgot at home, I confess :)

Do you use public transport? How much does it cost and what types of public transport do you use?

Many of us here in the USA do not use public transport at all. In many places there is not really public transport. Instead everyone uses their personal car to go everywhere. When much of the US was developed, homes were spread out across lots of land making public transportation a poor choice even around cities. My town in the state of South Carolina has buses for public transportation, but the schedule and locations they pick up at and travel to are not convenient for most. Those who use public transportation in my town do so because they to not have the financial means to afford their own private vehicle. It is unfortunate because the lack of ability to travel hurts the people who need the most help.

I grew up over in the UK and worked in Germany for much of my life. In Europe public transportation was very popular. I used the trains, subways, and buses very often when I lived there. It was more convenient than using a personal vehicle in many cases. The public transportation was always very cheap, I do not remember the actual prices. I think that it is a shame that we do not have much public transportation in the USA. It was affordable, convenient, and allowed everyone the opportunity to travel around. However, I am a bit hypocritical/selfish because I do not want to use public transportation. I like to be alone in my personal sports car, truck, or motorcycle better.:lol_hitti

Wow what a read!

I've enjoyed reading this thread as much for the garage stuff as learning about a different culture and country which is absolute worlds apart from the one in which i live. The idea of the temperature being that cold is something we never have to worry about even in winter.

I know, if you are going to take the time and effort to make ice sculptures, you would like a long cold stretch.
Back in December, I heard we were going to be below -5C for an extended period of time, so I made some colorful lawn art out of balloons and food coloring, for the front walkway at my house.
https://scontent-ort2-1.**.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/26197919_2070869869606214_484172146853690147_o.jpg?oh=229f8a66b721f3a22c532a1c26062439&oe=5AE239EB

it only lasted 3 weeks but it was a fun project.
I imagine Stas's "Ice Villege" in town will last 3 months or more....
Gosh, just seeing the frost on the windshield makes my bones cold!
We are cold here to...-12C this morning but warming close to 0C today.
Thanks Stas for taking us to town with your pictures, very cool.

I also prefer a personal car, rather than public transport.

There is no doubt that you have a real winter in your homeland!
Fantastic photos!

Sorry for this delay, but I'm was a very busy on this week.
I can redeem my guilt with blood, cutting off my finger as it is customary for the Yakuza in Japan? :lol_hitti
Ice towns are still standing, it's already been 1.5 months. They are usually dismantled in the middle of February.
I will try to write more often, but it's hard for me to write in English, I need inspiration.

Hello for all gentlemen!

This week I was very tense because of the setting up of an online cash register in the warehouse. This operation broke my brain. It remains to open an account with the bank and set up acquiring for accepting bank cards. I'm trying to choose the best bank, I read their terms, even it's difficult for me to understand with my legal education, I need an interpreter from banking to civil. All banks want to undress you to a thread, using different methods for this. I have to pay them for everything, for a terminal for accepting cards, for keeping a bank account, for transferring money, for withdrawing money ...
I'm terribly depressed when a "good" banker with his hairy hand takes in his pocket about 5% of all receipts to the account, under the guise of various services.

I'm trying to develop a new direction in my business, repairing dents without painting PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) I think you are familiar with this technique.
I sent my classmate Alexei to PDR school, he mastered this technology. Now we are slowly starting to provide these services in our city, he also straightens out the details that come to me in my parts store and are damaged during transportation.
On Monday we asked our friends who resell cars with a request to repair dents on Renault Symbol

We took the tools with Alexei in my garage and drove into the garage to the secondhand dealer:bounce:

The size of their garage is about 6 by 10 meters and has 2 floors. On the second floor there is a rest room with a sofa the size of 2 sofas in my house. :bounce:

Alexei working hard
IMG_20180129_201757

The garage is built of iron-concrete slabs used, most likely from some factory workshop, which now does not work anymore.
The height of the ceilings is about 4-5 meters. The heating is central, the temperature in the garage is about +15.

In the garage there is a quad bike, made in China, as well as their project - UAZ BUKHANKA "Loaf of bread":rocker:
Inside, they make a noise-vibration isolation, which is not provided from the plant. This is primarily a military vehicle, which this year marks the 60th anniversary of the start of production. It is still produced, it is an indispensable machine for places where there are no roads, but you need to travel. It is especially appreciated in the countryside and in the north.

The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant celebrates the 60th anniversary of the commencement of the serial production of the UAZ-450, the founder of the family of UAZ commercial vehicles, nicknamed "Bukhanki" by the people. The UAZ-450 became one of the first production cars in the world, which combines wagon configuration, low payload capacity and increased patency.

The first prototype UAZ-450 with various body variants passed factory and inter-departmental tests for cross-country bridges on off-road and ride comfort in 1957. UAZ-450 successfully crossed the Karakum, visited the Pamirs and Kazakhstan, and also in the coldest point of Russia - Oymyakon. Tests have confirmed that all-wheel drive trucks are able to move in any road and climate conditions.

By January 1958, the factory capacity had already been prepared for the assembly of 4000 trucks a year. The basis of the UAZ-450 was the undercarriage of the GAZ-69 SUV. First, the "Loaf" was produced only in the modification of the van, but soon the release of other versions was launched: the UAZ-450D flatbed truck, the UAZ-450 all-metal van, and the UAZ-450A ambulance. The minibus UAZ-450V was the last to enter the conveyor.

UAZ-450 was characterized by a simple design - it consisted of 1026 parts and components (491 chassis parts and 535 body parts). For comparison, in modern cars the number of parts varies from 5000 to 7000 pieces.

In 1966, the release of a deeply modernized "Loaf" began, which was given the UAZ-452 index. All the cars in the family received an updated exterior with a trapezoidal grille, a top-hat engine, a 4-speed gearbox and four-wheel drive (the rear-wheel drive versions were completely ruled out). Then at vans there was an additional door on the starboard side.

Since then, the "Loaf" was subjected to several more upgrades. In particular, in the middle of the zero it began to be equipped with engines with electronic distributed injection. In 2007, the family received a power steering, bridges of the type "Spicer", a multifunction switch, and so on. The last major modernization was carried out in 2016 - then strengthened the frame and body brackets, introduced sealing of welds, improved vibration and noise insulation, installed a new a safety steering wheel, a more convenient instrument cluster and some more trivia.

UAZ continues to produce "Bukhanok", until now the model remains one of the most sought after in the scale of the plant - in the last five years only 156 thousand machines have been produced, that is, they produce about 30 thousand cars annually.

In spring, the automaker will present the "Loaf" in a special jubilee package. Details about the new version of the company has not yet reported.

More Katya pictures please. It makes the day start off well!

I was wondering if you could go to an international payment service like PayPal for customers with the technology and just cut the bank out? While we have banks who feel they should keep their hand in your pocket for the safety of your money, competition between banks is strong and we can get some good deals.

PDR could be a boon to you. Great diversification. Especially if you do it on their property.

We always enjoy seeing other garages. This is Garage Journal, by the way.

Very interested in the garage culture indeed Stas. I can believe that there is a great need for your new service after seeing pictures of the driving in Russia. Your weather is also likely to bring more business.
Banks are much the same here in US for businesses, but I have managed to find better deals. My regular banking is basically free, and I pay 2.5% for credit card transactions.

Love the old van. It looks to be very well restored and kept in good condition. Interesting to see more garage life and there's a nice benefit to have 2 stories.
PDR is a great process. I've had a local trained service use in on one of my previous vehicles and I was amazed at how well it works.

Real shame what's going on with the banks, they are almost the worst. They always find ways to take advantage of someones situation. Here in Sweden they don't even accept cash anymore? Is it the same for you?

Hello Stas

Again great thread you have here !

The UAZ automobiles are fascinating ! I like the very simple look of them . Could you post pictures of their pickup trucks ! Are the pickup trucks full time four wheel drive or can you select 4x2 or 4x4 with the shifter ?

Thanks

About public transportaton, if a city is planned hand n hand with with it's public transportation it´s very useful. I live half of the time in Stockholm, Sweden, half in Tallinn, Estonia (former Soviet republic). Stockholms public transportation system is just spot on. Eespecially by metro I reach most of the town much faster than by car, and it.s safe and mostly clean and warm too, Tallinn is more chaotic, the town spreads out, without really being planned, and obviously they can't or don't bother creating a good transportation system. As a result is a town jammed by cars, and slow public transport.

Nearby was UAZ "Bukhanka" (because it looks like a loaf of bread), it was a diesel heat gun that warmed up the engine compartment of Skoda Fabia (we have this service called the "Thawing car" and costs about 1000 rubles / 18 dollars).
IMG_20180121_140402

Back in my days at Finnish military we used to call those as "bun-UAZ" for the same cause.

You have some real winter temperatures there! That must be quite challenging for batteries. In southern Finland it's been suprisingly warm, we haven't gone under -20 C this winter.

Looking forward to your updates!

such a garage?

You are wrong ;) :

I also am a friend of Mr Google Translate
You will tell this to FSB officers :) Katya and I crawl under the table laughing
:D:D:D

Grizz: for some of us that don't have a clue how to use

Google's translator what did you say in ENGLISH? i typed it in Google a few minutes after

you typed it yesterday cause i was online at the time and funny your post came up first

(with no translation).
It's very simple!

About public transportaton, if a city is planned hand n hand with

with it's public transportation it´s very useful. I live half of the time in Stockholm,

Sweden, half in Tallinn, Estonia (former Soviet republic). Stockholms public transportation

system is just spot on. Eespecially by metro I reach most of the town much faster than by

car, and it.s safe and mostly clean and warm too, Tallinn is more chaotic, the town spreads

out, without really being planned, and obviously they can't or don't bother creating a good

transportation system. As a result is a town jammed by cars, and slow public transport.
Привет!
Я думаю, что ты понимаешь по-русски если из СССР :D
В Европе по поводу общественного транспорта все более или менее понятно.
In America, a large area of cities and they gave priority to personal transport - I read an article about this, I was convinced of it above.

Back in my days at Finnish military we used to call those as "bun-UAZ"

for the same cause.

You have some real winter temperatures there! That must be quite challenging for batteries.

In southern Finland it's been suprisingly warm, we haven't gone under -20 C this winter.

Looking forward to your updates!
We have snowy and frosty winters this year, I'm directly surprised by the weather behavior outside the window.
In the Finnish army cars UAZ "Bukhanka" are used for movement or as targets for shooting?

I love the van. Vans are popular here too. My dad made seats and storage like that in his 1970s Dodge van.

Your wife is stunningly beautiful. :). You are lucky.

Hello Stas

Again great thread you have here !

The UAZ automobiles are fascinating ! I like the very simple look of them . Could you post pictures of their pickup trucks ! Are the pickup trucks full time four wheel drive or can you select 4x2 or 4x4 with the shifter ?

Thanks
scarrylarry

UAZ has a choice between 4*4 and 4*2. There is also a lever that can include a lower gear for driving in difficult conditions, for example in the mud.

To improve passability, you can set differential locks on them, which turns it into a all-terrain vehicle.
UAZ FARMER

These machines are popular where there are no roads, for example in Yakutia.
If the road leading to your farm looks like this - UAZ choice for you :)

Thank you for sharing. Those look like really awesome trucks/vans/SUVs. Have you ever owned one Stas26? What are they like to drive? Top speed? Engines available? I have so many questions. It’s like a unimog mated with a Volkswagen bus and had an ugly but tough and smart lovechild.

Hello!
No, I'm not a fan of such cars. My father-in-law has UAZ PATRIOT this is an updated model, he's in the photo in the garage.
In the previous post, I posted characteristics from the announcement of the sale.

Obviously your sweet wife needs the sand brushed off. May I volunteer?

Her thread would be a hit and get lots of views.

I cannot understand how banks would not accept currency. Surely some place does, or they already have a cashless society. Hmmm.

Drives was saying $18,000 is very cheap for a garage like that, so the number of people lining up to buy would look like free tickets to the World Cup. I don't know what the Super Bowl is, something local US I think.

Here's a new business idea. Become an exporter of UAZ to the US and Australia. I think you have plenty of local contacts in each country, and both could use a $10,000 basic offroad vehicle, it just takes a bit of financing to set up spare parts inventory. Dealer network is self financing by the dealers themselves. I'm thinking you know a little about parts inventory and sales.

You might even get a government export incentive if a smart chip were installed at the government's cost...

The UAZ looks like one very tough truck and versatile with the van and different length cab types. I'm always interested in the the vehicles from other countries so thanks for the info. Very interesting local made vehicle.

Stas: sorry to call your daughter a GUY, but really when we say little guys it means little ONES. another slang we like to use is RUG RATS cause they fly around on our floors especially at the age yours are. enjoy the fun ride and challenges of parenting cause you'll never have a dull moment for many years now.

as far as the $18,000 cement 2 story garage you showed us that i think is in the city if we attempted to build one in our city we might get the plans and permitting done for about that much not to mention the cost of the land, materials and labor to build it. i bet that garage could cost as much as $200,000 in a busy part of our city and they'd probably sell more than a few of them. in the country around here you can maybe get a pole barn/garage built for maybe $20,000 that would have dirt floors and not much in the way of a structure other than some wood and metal siding.

so maybe your ruble doesn't buy much here, but you are certainly getting a great value for it there.

hope you are enjoying your day and maybe you've figured out your banking and new credit card ability issues.
