What do your Storage Cabinets look like?

We run a kitchen cabinet business. These are my shop cabinets....

I love this!!! If you look quick it looks like you took over your high end kitchen w/car stuff...The ULTIMATE man cave (and my wifes biggest fear)!!! LOL!!!

Sweet setup! I'm loving my Lista cabinets. Still organizing them, but dang they are nice to work with.

What size are yours?

Here's the result of this thread in my garage... 24' feet of cabinets to hide plastic storage bins the rest is folly to show off some tchotchkes.

Basically there are 6 ea. 48" wide 42" high (bar height) 24" deep boxes made out of 3/4" plywood trimmed with ripped down 1 x 2.25 and Kreg'd together. I used a center shelf so 2 plastic bins would fit on the bottom and 1 on the top. I used 1/4 luan for the doors and backs. The counters are 30" wide with a 2" hangover in the front/sides and 4" in the back so they sit against the wall but the cabinets sit inside the cement "curbs" at the floor. The counter tops are poor mans granite... Armstrong floor tiles with 1" aluminum trim to finish the edges. I used the aluminum roof flashing idea from the "Barage" as the back splash. I added the sign because I always wanted a Hot Rod Diner and I was a little jealous of the "Hot Rod Grille".

There are a couple of observations... I should have used a hardwood as my trim and door frames. Pine is really too soft. Also the 1/4 luan is too unstable for such big doors with such small frames. Chances are I'll rebuild the doors at sometime but for now they are fine.

Overall I'm pleased for my first attempt at cabinets and for you real wood workers out there this gives me a real appreciation for the detail that goes into your projects.

I actually have one identical to this. That actually is an engine teardown cabinet. There is supposed to be a rack attached to the top, with holes and slots to hold all the valves, pistons etc. Pretty cool.

I'll be building my own basic cabinets for the rest of the garage, but here's what I'm currently working on.

It's a 4" deep cabinet with oak plywood doors. 48" tall x 60" wide. It's an Alt-Power system. Solar panels going on the roof, and the charge controllers, inverters, and other support equipment, will be mounted on the cabinet doors. All the wiring is hidden inside as much as possible.

I'll make 12" deep cabinets with similar doors for tools and equipment. Nothing fancy.

All the lockers came from multiple sources including a mental institution in Kansas. Several different sizes and configurations. All painted to match with base/clear automotive paint which cost way more than I actually have in buying the lockers themselves. Several came out of remodels, etc. The base cabinets came out of a grocery store pharmacy remodel and painted to match.

Loving the locker look. Lots of used stuff available.

Thanks much. I did make them. They are 3/4 oak plywood with MDF sheet / moulding doors.

I'm pleased with the way they turned out - it was a lot of work, but now I have something that fits my larger tools. The one with golf clubs is the only one like that. The rest are all shelves with about 22'' of space between them.

I think I may have posted mine in another thread a few years ago, but wanted to get in on the action. My storage cabinets are actually surplus Disney furniture. Drawer units out of the All-Star Resort hotels in Disney World. They started renovating the hotels a few years ago and I picked up three sets (six "halves") all in the same "Owl's House" red color.

Here's a pic from the original seller of two halves (two Ls, making a U). I've got two of these sets down one side wall of the garage, and a third set of two halves at the back of the garage. IKEA butcher block counter tops were used in the "U" shape between each pair of units.

This is what they looked like in the hotel rooms (pic stolen from a Disney website years ago).

A few months ago, I got a bug to pick up an old school locker to use as storage for all my aerosol paints, etc. So I trolled eBay after striking out locally and picked up this:

Going to paint it a red similar to the Disney "Owl's House."

Mine look just like red gym lockers. I got them for $10 each (group of 4 - 2 lowers & 2 uppers). Go visit your county school board repository. They dispose of good stuff all the time. Some things you can pick up and take right home. Other higher $$ items are auctioned off. I got a really nice good-sized ultrasonic cleaner - used in a chemestry lab for $10. Flourscent lights for $1 each - with bulbs - my choice 4' or 8'. They had slate-topped chemestry work tables. Big timpany drums (didn't bid on those because I didn't want to move them). I also got two, working 3-door SubZero refrigerators because they remodeled a cafeteria and brought in stainless ones ($135 ea was highest bid). Paid $25 for another SubZero that wasn't working. I didn't try to fix that one, I just turned it into a smoker. I passed on a huge Hobart mixer that bolted to the floor.

You may have to go each month - to keep fresh with what they have.

Thanks EPA7. The table saw storage is probably the best use of space in my garage. It's really important that a tool that is bulky when it's set up, but isn't used all that often, uses very little of my garage floor space when it's not being used. I also like the way the bench looks with the tool cabinet and the big drawer front beside it.

I just got mine installed not too long ago. They are Diamond Innovative Garage DIG6 kits. I really like them. My one car garage was so cluttered, these things really helped. I still have some cleaning to do but here are some pictures of them...

Still a work in progress...but built these cabinets/bench the past few weeks as part of my garage project. Will post better pics later. A lot of ideas/inspiration from creeping in on everyone's awesome garages on this site. This unit is 20 feet long, and 10'6'' high. First attempt at finishing a garage...and I'm having a blast.

For the love of all that is holy why no update on these! I think those look amazing, would love to see some better pics so I can Bogart your idea

Cars&Classic-- that is an awesome idea! Nice blend of the normal "I won't cover the walls because I used the space between the studs" and a finished look.
