....people that come into my business and said "Hey, you know what I need?".....I always wanted to say, "As a matter of fact I do; I'm a friggin mind reader".....

Better yet, those that would show me a part and say, "You don't have one of these, do you?" Most everybody does this. What is it in these people's makeup that makes them ask in a negative way?

People that don't know the difference between regime and regimen.

....People that call a solenoid a silinoid or (believe it or not, I've heard this) a celluloid.

Others who work the term 'go ahead' into a any statement that shows action. There's a Youtube guy I follow; his go ahead record is 18 times in 20 minutes.

Using the word 'at' after 'where are you'.

Since glass doorknobs have not been produced commercially in almost 100 years, I think the fact they survive at all speaks pretty well of them.
My pet peeve? People that give out information as fact that don't know what they are talking about!
Glass door knobs

Seber, just busting your chops! :ROFLMAO:

People at parts stores that say " I have a (insert part name) or I have a (inset other part name) and I've got my (inset part name). "

You don't have ****, the parts store has it. Say we not I, you're not going out to your truck and pulling these parts out of your own personal stock.

People who get a dog and put it outside to live its life alone with little interaction. I'm not sure if it's worse for the dog who feels his fate daily or the owner who doesn't realize he is missing out on one of life's greatest relationships.

People who think everyone else's tool choice is junk. Spend some time on you tube and watch the absolute creative magic people perform using these "junk" tools.
Extremely good post.......especially the first paragraph.

You left out the part about the 'chain drive' wallet thing. I equate having one of those to when my mother used to clip my mittens to my sleeves so I wouldn't lose them. I rode cross-country on a bike years ago and never lost my wallet.

I have. My standard response to women that look over my shoulder and micromanage while I'm fixing something they asked me to fix is: Did I ask you to speak? That typically ends that behavior. That ends all possibility of getting laid but at my age not listening to their ******** is worth more to me.
I really admire your honesty here lol.

I don't understand why or how interacting with a dog no matter what his purpose, "ruins" him.

Nor did I mention anything about locking up or not locking up animals in any way. I also doubt that a significant percentage of dog owners have them herding livestock plus I haven't seen a junkyard dog since the 70s. 😁

We know a lot more today than in the 17th century on most things including animal welfare.
And that is the problem. You don't care to find out or know. Sheep dogs need to think their sheep. They live with the sheep at all times. If you treat them as a normal dog or bring them inside to live, they are not a sheep dog anymore.

I didn't say any thing about a junkyard? And just because you haven't seen a significant percentage of working dogs/other animals doesn't mean busy body do gooders need to enact laws forcing owners to bring animals inside against all good reason other than to soothe the busy bodies mind

SGF13 mentioned being outside vs inside and inside = locked up for many animals.

You keep spouting off about the 17th century, you obviously haven't read anything about working dogs or draft animals written in the last 25 years. A lot of it very good. I am not sure why you are reading books written in olde englishe?

Guy I work with.. he’s a slob. Leaves his half empty coffee cup all over the place. Refuses to put tools away. Constantly, using my tools. And he talks to himself
on the plus side he does exemplary work. He’s got a hot wife who comes in all the time with lunch.
but I work alone…. It is getting a little Weird at work… I should hire someone.

Had a guy like that in the shop where I first started working on Harleys, ended up with me dropping his tools on the floor and closing my tool box.

I don't understand why or how interacting with a dog no matter what his purpose, "ruins" him.
I was working on a job site one day and taking many walks out to my work truck for tools and supplies. Parked right next to me was a pickup with the windows down and a large German Shepard laying on the seat. Evey time I walked by he would get up and growl at me . I would talk to him while I walked by, something simple like "hi big guy." stuff like that. He eventually stopped growling and stuck his head out, but was still a bit apprehensive. A couple more trips out and he tried to sniff me so I stopped and let him. All this time I never reached out to touch him. One walk out he was waiting for me stuck his head out and I stopped and talked to him and he allowed me to pet him, so after that I would stop and scratch his ears for a few seconds.
Finally one trip out I had both hands on him scratching his neck and roughing him up and I could tell he loved the attention. Next thing the owner of the dog happened to walk up and he about freaked out and told me to stay away as the dog was dangerous and very protective of the truck. As he got closer I told him, "No problem, we are old buddies!" and kept loving up his dog. He just stood there in shock and said "He never lets anyone close to him or the truck, "and added, "I think you ruined my dog!"

My wife calls me the "dog whisperer" as no matter how dogs act I usually get them relaxed and asking for belly rubs.

My peeve today? The neighbor and his damn diesel dodge ram! Every morning he runs out in his shorts, t-shirt and man-bun, and starts this POS bro-dozer and lets it run for at least 30 minutes. But we had an ice storm last night, so I get an extended auditory delight today! That POS has been idling for over an hour. It's way up the street but I can still hear it, and it drives me nuts!

Quit being a ***** and buy an ice scraper!

Go get in his truck and park it in your driveway and see how he likes it. That's what I did with my neighbors dog that kept barking. 😂
Seriously... I do hate when people do that with a vehicle and a dog.

Biggest pet peeve while doing auto repair would probably be people/manufacturers who do not flush cut zip ties.

I feel like sending freightliner a pair of flush cutters for their shop to use when building trucks ... friggin annoying as hell when a sharp *** zip tie cuts through your glove AND your skin.

That's funny as hell...

When I had my 2nd gen dodge diesel (24 valve rattler), I'd turn a corner and the kids that were late to the bus stop, heard my truck first, and started hauling *** towards the bus stop because they thought my truck was the school bus.

Silly things like crankshaft holding tools to torque bolts. Honda standardized their entire line years ago, why can't other manufacturers just pick a pattern and stick with it? Yeah, I can make a version out of a chunk of plate steel, but I'd prefer not to.

Power steering pulleys that press on. WHY! Just put a damn flange on it.

Mid year part changes, enough said.

Lazy people who think they work hard. Stupid people who brag about their intelligence as well.
The last one especially, too dumb to know what they don’t know.

Why would any person say, "I can't wait." Is there an option? Another is the misuse of irony and ironic. Almost always, coincidence would be correct. "Going to town." Really? "Down the road?" Is this the road to that town? Double negatives are annoying.

That's because you get it. I am sorry for those that don't as they are missing out on some of the best relationships they will ever have.

When people call the bolt size by the head size. "These are 10mm bolts" but they are really 6mm bolts with 10mm across the flats hex head

Egads, this.

In general, it's just another brand of widespread willful ignorance. There's a very weird and powerful resistance to paying the slightest attention to threaded fasteners, or to learning anything about them. They blunder through life, leaving a trail of snapped bolts and stripped threads. Amateur or pro, you can make your wrenching life so much easier if you know what a thread pitch is, and at least a little about what fasteners are likely to be found on the machines in front of you.

This is how you end up with **** like the 1/4" and 5/16" fasteners, some still bearing traces of Briggs & Stratton paint, I found all over my vintage Suzuki motorcycle after I brought it home. The previous owner was supposedly a retired aircraft mechanic who had apparently never heard of metric fasteners and didn't see any reason he couldn't keep using the same tools and fasteners he had on hand.

Exactly. And as a machinist I pick up on it.

One of my students told me the chain is so you don’t lose your wallet in the barn when you are “visiting” the sheep.

Windshield washer fluid reservoirs that don't quite hold a full gallon of fluid :mad:
We have a humidifier like that. When it's time to refill it, the tank never will take a full gallon of distilled water. I don't know exactly why this bothers me, but it does.

One pet peeve I encountered recently (couple of warm days just now) is wind chimes that are not tuned. Drives me absolutely batshit.

Most wind chimes are just random hunks of pipe, and to my ears the dissonance is pretty much the same effect as nails on a chalkboard. it is honestly physically painful.

Most people, including my wife, think I'm nuts. I guess a lot of people are tone deaf.

If there are dissonant wind chimes bonging away anywhere near me, I have to leave the area, take them down, or mute them. I cannot coexist with them.

Better quality wind chimes are actually tuned to specific lengths so they sound the correct notes, and the notes are chosen to harmonize correctly. These can actually sound pretty neat, but they're extremely rare.

You know, it's funny- I am driven crazy by nearly every sound. But wind chimes don't bother me much for some reason. And a couple of my neighbors have TONS of them, and it's just random bing BANG bong BLING all the time. I guess I'm thankful that I haven't decided to be driven nuts by it yet.
