I know guy's that go bare handed so they can feel the and feed the filler rod better.

Id much rather burn a few spots on my fingers bc of the rod than melt another glove onto my hand that I then get to have the joy of peelling off piece by piece. I made the mistake of grabbing something hot with a heavy synthetic glove once, its kinda like grabbing a hot pan off the stove vs spilling that hot pan's contents on your hand.

*sigh* .....the biggest problem with the picture is the fact that his welding helmet has no visor/lens to see through. It just has what appears to be an outline in black magic marker. That's why I said over and over again that the guy doesn't have x-ray vision.

That looks like a molded in recess in order to give the helmet body more rigidity. Without that recess the helmet would have all the strength of a balloon.
What appears to you to be a black marker line is actually a shadow from the light which is coming mostly from behind the weldor, you can even see some light reflecting on the front top edge of the recess from the tig.

The lens is facing forward toward the welding area. It would be impossible to see the lens from this angle.

Some hoods have recessed lenses. The biggest problem I see.....where's his beer?

Really? I don't think so. We're obviously looking at the side profile of the helmet. Unless they somehow failed to put the lens in the center and instead put it way on the right side, I'd say that we'd definitely be able to see it. I think what we're seeing here is a joke...a homemade welding helmet that's unfinished.

That guy doesn't have enough sense to clean up his bench before welding. I doubt he would be inclined to make a "homemade welding helmet".

Yes you are looking at the side profile of the helmet.
Explain to me how one could possibly see the front face of the hood including the lens when viewing the side, without a mirror of course???

As an example look at the helmet linked to below. Although not identical it has roughly the same embossed or molded in profile when view from the side. Take away the variable shade adjustment knob, and view the hood strictly from the side only. Now how would you be able to discern what if any lens is on it's face?

The same way I can see your nose when I look at the profile of your face. BTW, the link that you provided is a flat-faced welding helmet. The one in the picture is shaped more like this:

So why can't you see the lens in the photo if it's like the one you posted ???

That helmet he is using is nothing like the one you have posted here. I have the same helmet he is using and it is a flat faced one with a small lens, and yes those are molded in stiffing ribs on the side.

Yeah, it just looks like a generic, standard auto-dark welding helmet....even kinda close to the hf cheapie. I used to have one exactly like it.

I think you're assuming it was a flip lens style helmet. Or you're tripping on acid.

Because there is no lense. It's a joke...the guy fabricated that helmet and had yet to cut a hole for the lens.:headscrat:wtf:. And besides, the picture is obviously at a different angle.:wtf:

When I was in welding school there was this guy who would stick weld in latex gloves. None of us understood why, but he never had any issues. I seem to recall that he said he didn't like the feel of leather on his skin. He's got a rough road ahead in the welding field if that's the case.
