Just found a nice old pretty complete set of Hinsdale tools in a nice chest/box
I just finished inventorying this set against the catalog image. It is missing 4 - 3/8 drive pieces SJ14 - 7/16 Socket; H5J Hinged Tee; H12J - Ratchet; H13J - Universal Joint.

It is also missing all of the Open End Wrenches.

Everything else is complete.

Looking at eBay for the H5J Hinged Tee and H12J Ratchet. I see some with smooth handles and some knurled. Is there a production date difference on these? It doesn’t look like wear.

Phillip, I’ll check my stuff tonight if I get home in time. I can probably fix you up

Check out this socket. It’s a Hinsdale vanadium marked bob cat. I thought I had completed the Bob cat…..wrong! Apparently the Bob cat line was sold longer than first suspected.

Here are some more sets. I’ll post some pics. I have had them for a while but just got around to cleaning them so I’m pretty proud.

It was a very Hinsdale week for me.

A #12 set from the early '20s. Incomplete, but I have many of the missing parts around here, so just need to dig them out.

Small Tool Set, found in the '38 and '43 catalogs. I found this sans the largest wrench and flat head, but I had the correct wrench and a screwdriver that matches the catalog blueprints, and so completed the set. You can just see the remains of the yellow paint used for the Hinsdale logo at the top of the pouch.

And, last but certainly not least:

a genuine Hinsdale bottle capper! I spotted this on the auction site, and looked all through every available catalog in vain trying to find it, until I spotted it in the background illustration of the Hinsdale line:
It does, however, show up in the '31 price list. In excellent shape, you can see the remains of the Cadmium Plated Rust-Proof sticker.

Going thru some old “user” tool boxes I noticed that a speeder I threw in ( as if I was going to need it 🤷‍♂️) was a hex drive…making it even less likely to be used obviously….anyway, here it is.

Does anyone else have a Hinsdale screwdriver? I've not seen any in this thread.

I found one last week. On the handle it has the Hinsdale name/logo (barely legible unless you know what you are looking for) and the number "3164 R"

It's overall length is 7.1 inches, the shaft is 3.9 inches long and the flat-head tip is 15/64" wide. It has an 8 ribbed handle.

I didn’t check to see how rare…oops! I left behind a KP8 (Phillips size 4, I think) screwdriver today because the head was ground almost flat. Well, I did snap a pic of the handle for posterity.

I found a nearly-complete G-20 set on Saturday and snatched it up for $3.50/lb. (G-20 set = $20).

IMG_7174.jpeg

Some of the pieces were in the miscellaneous-sockets bins and on another shelf in the store. I found some of those before seeing the box. Someone smooshed one corner, but it's fixable. The tools are washable, but I'm enjoying the vintage greasy dirt for now.

IMG_7175.jpeg

(the box sitting underneath it is also a G-20 that I found empty over 20 years ago)

The 5/8" socket is missing and there's an extra 12pt. 5/8" in the box. I've seen photos of sets that appear to have even more sockets, so it may be missing some in-between sizes.

Nice! I have a couple of those sets, and the sockets are packed in there tight.

I'll have to lay them out and take an inventory.
The 9/16" is in there and I noticed the 31/32" is too. :)
They had some very specific sizing back then.

The replacement 5/8" socket is marked Chromium Vanadium and I also found my first Sears & Roebuck [S.R.] socket Saturday.

Must... resist... cleaning... sockets.
(too many other irons in the fire)

The forged end of the DR-1 speeder sure is crude. I don't think it's damaged, just not their prettiest work. The little # 3 1/2 plug is cute.
