Hello all.

I just made an order at Chad's Toolbox, and noticed a pair of Wiha pliers missing from the website that I'd had my eye on. Chad's emailed back, saying they don't offer the Wiha pliers anymore because they're made in Viet Nam.

In a follow up email, CT stated: "their steel forging is done there [Viet Nam] now, quietly…"

Just passing along what I heard...

It's not really a secret (or "quiet") -it's right there on their website:

Geez. The Vietnam location looks like an old POW camp.
If you check some of the most expensive outerwear out there (Columbia), the tag says Vietnam. Now, I am not against Vietnam in any way, it's before my time and the wars over. But just like made in China, I am not going to pay $90 for a coat made there. It was made for $8, shipped for $2 more.

"Since its operation in Thai Nguyen in 2006, it has great contributions to Provincial Budget as well as provided jobs for 320 local workers with average salary of 3.8 million VND/employee/month."

3.8 million Vietmanese Dong is $140 US Dollars a month, or .87 per hour for a 40 hour week. How much you want to bet they work 60 hour weeks?

I think you're being a bit unfair. My conversion is about $180.00/month, and hey, that's $2,160 per year...! :scared:

These corporations don't look at making money like you and I. They can never make enough profit, and this requires a serious under-class and abuse of people. Just the way it is... And because the only people someone cares about is him/herself, these things are allowed.

I suspect that if you gave pliers factory workers a professional-level wage, the corporate spreadsheet would tell you to build an automated factory with one employee who turns it on and off with a big knife switch. You end up with no jobs at all.
