About the only thing my wife will help with is when I need to bleed brakes, she will come out and pump the pedal.

Mine will help in the garage without a problem, on the boat, before I had everything setup for singlehanding, I had to resort to "We are both going to die if you don't come out of the cabin and help" this after a sudden gust of wind with the 150 genoa up that almost caused a knockdown...

My wife not only helps anytime I ask, she also changes her own oil, installs her own mods, and swaps her summer and winter tires too! Now if I can just get her to do mine!!!

No. But she has her 2 cars in there while I park my truck outside and rent a garage for a Porsche that I sold this week. At least now I have some indoor space. All my work is/was done in a carport.

In the last 10 years I have restored 4 cars. One for the wife (I got to use the garage for part of that job), one for me and 2 for others, outside.

I'm pretty much retired from all that banging, welding, grinding, painting stuff. Most cars take 100's of hours. I got not one bit of help in all of that. Maybe a few sandwiches.

But, before you take pity, she does have a bad back. I clean the house too.

Anything her health will allow, she's younger than me, but I ain't a spring chicken...

She's helped load and unload monster tool boxes (got a finger nail crushed under a 56 inch chest, still helped the rest of the day, just wincing a little.

She did about one third my Epoxy floor, and helped in every way.

Today she and I cut branches from a TALL tree, with her working the come-along (tied to my 4x4 to keep the branch down and in control) then she used the Alligator lopper to cut the stuff up to bag-able size.

Takes all my shop pictures from closeups of ratchet innards to panoramic shop shots.

When we brought home the second lift, she helped me unload and reassemble it.

She's often my 'safety man' when I'm doing something dangerous, standing there with the fire extinguisher, or holding the ladder, or running tools while I'm under a car, on the roof, whatever.

I honestly couldn't be married to a woman who couldn't get me wire strippers and not bring pliers, dikes and not bring tin snips, or whatever.

Or the reason I've been married 39 years last Christmas day.

We have been in this house for 2 years. My wife has been in my detached shop 3 times, and I invited her to on one of those occasions to look at the plywood walls after they were painted. I used to ask her to help me bleed brakes, but it was like pulling teeth. She definitely lets me have my space. I simply place any gifts there in plain sight for storage, as they won't be found by her.

I am lucky, my wife will help anytime if I need a hand, never complains when I buy new tools and pretty much leaves me alone when I am wrenching, except when she makes me lunch ! I guess that's why we have been together for 24 years..

She helped build it and has her own 600 ft2 wood shop in the main shop. No problem.

My wife likes to help also. In fact we spent the day in the garage working on some woodworking projects. She likes to learn how to do things and always wants to try to use certain tools.

My wife helps herself to all the tools in the shop. She spent this afternoon with an air chisel knocking mortar off of bricks for a new walkway in the yard.

I bought her a band saw for Christmas one year, she loved it. We have remodeled 3 houses together and she helps as much as anyone can.

She will help anytime that i need her to. Now just hanging out watching, she isn't the watching kind of girl. She bought my upper and lower 41" chest, brought them home and with the help of my son had them unloaded out of the pick up. Yeah, she is a keeper.

My wife helped paint the garage, including most of the stripes and the Harley logo. She loves to party in the garage. Now if only I could get around to putting up that stripper pole!:)

Mime will help when she has spare time. It took me two years to remodel my house while we were living in the house beside it. When we planned a big project like tearing down and rebuilding a deck in a weekend. She was there but just the day to day activities of spreading mud and hanging sheetrock. She was always "Busy Today" She will help if I need a hand for a few minutes here and there in my workshop. But with two kids and an infant grandson theres not much time for her to just come hangout and chit chat in the shop.

I kind of like it that way sometimes. Peace and quiet with me and my ipod.

my wife is a gem. keeps the house clean, does the cooking, laundry, has a full time job and leaves the garage all to me (no storage of junk). does she help me out tho? umm.... kinda. she wants advance notice if i'm going to need help. when i call her out to the garage for help, i better be ready. she doesnt have much patience to stand there, watch and wait for me to need help. i really try to make sure i can't do said task by myself. i guess no woman is perfect, but she's close.

She helped me build fence today.

She mows the lawn.

She will help with farm chores.

When it comes to my old truck and such, she will if i ask, but I don't think she likes it.

Most of the time its a huge problem to get my wife to help and probably 75% of the time, it ends with one or both of us sore about it.
She has no desire to do anything repair, new build, paint, sand, no. She'll let me buy any tools, toys, etc and she's not high maintenance, but she's not good help.

My wife is the best... helps anytime and is a hellahard worker.... when she picked me out, it was my lucky day!!!!! while we are in our 60s we are starting to slow a bit, kind of the topic of conversation lately, why the heck is it taking us so long to do the things we used to do so easily.

I thought we built shops to get WAY from the wives!!! ;)

Mrs E-tek has sanded, wrenched and raced, but it had her interest at the time. She'll help now when I ask, but has been too busy (kids, classes, work) to do much else.

Any time I need it. My wife grew up the daughter of a handyman who was constantly adding on to and working on the house. She worked for a couple of years in the family owned lumberyard and hardware store. She has surprised more than a few contractors with her knowledge. She's also an excellent concrete finisher and has finished slabs as large as 30 yards. With my garage project she helped demo the old garage, drill concrete holes, move fencing, dig trenches, install new sprinkler lines, etc, etc. She does all the staining and finishing and most of the painting. The even did most of the roof tear off for our old wood shake roof. The problem isn't getting her to help, it's getting her to stop when I'm tired and want a break. The only exception I know of is grease. She does not like getting greasy.

My wife is always willing to help if I ask for it - which is extremely rare.
But this reminds me of someone I know - not by choice but by proximity if you know what I mean. He isn't very good at any sort of work around the house or anything mechanical. When he does anything, his wife has to be right there with him no matter how simple the task. Really - a quadriplegic could do it alone but she has to be there with him. Why you ask?
Not to help - it's so he will have someone to yell at and blame when things don't work out - and they never do for him. You see - apparently he isn't incompetent - he could have succeeded if she hadn't been there - it is always her fault. But he won't do anything without insisting that she be there.
It really is that sad - I am not exaggerating.

I truly wish my wife would help work on the home projects or come out to the garage and give me a hand. I'd be happy if she came out to BS every now and then.

Mine will usually grouse...but help. She hates bleeding brakes.

That said, when we built the detached...she wasn't interested. When we hung the slatwall in the attached...she helped lift and hold that heavy stuff.

Well I'm single. There's a girl I'm sort of seeing and frankly, not really. She dropped by when I was working on cleaning it out and she had no problem giving me a hug and a kiss despite being covered in ****...

My wife will help when asked and will pretty much let me alone in the garage. She doesn't know much about the cars or woodworking actually, but will follow instructions good as she can. She helps me with the garage stuff and I help her with her craft stuff. Works for almost 37 years now.

My wife has helped me on a variety of projects: painting, landscaping (she is the gardener in the family, I turn the earth), electrical.

When I was putting in wood floors, she would get me tools, help measure etc, she even installed her own ceiling fan before I met her.

But really, she wants to do her things and she does them well: cooking, laundry, groceries etc.

She loves to stay as girly as possible, but will soldier up when needed.

Pretty much the same deal at our house.

I guess I'll let her stick around at least another 20 years:rolleyes:

My wife is one of the hardest working women I have ever seen. When I built my garage, she helped every step of the way. When we set the trusses, she hooked them up and worked the tag line. She did more of the painting than I did, and helped me wire it. Yesteday, I was out in the garage installing a B&W Turnover ball hitch in my 04 Dodge, and she came and helped me with that. She helps me bust firewood too, and even enjoys it.....compared to me HATING it! LOL
