Ok I have to know... the door on the long side seems to open directly into the sides of the short side drawers.. whats behind the door???!!!!

Here you go.
Hole saw and a bit of misc. storage.

The other door.
Dimple Die storage.

Table #02
This one was built with machine shop use in mind.
Still needs a little black paint for the handles.

Behind the doors for those who need to know.:)

ISO tool holder storage for the mill.

VDI tool holder storage for the lathe.

Still can't understand people in their own garages who would rather purchase a workbench.
This thread should be encouragement enough to go out into the garage and create something workbenchish. :dunno:

What's the purpose of the holes on the bottom of the legs? (left on the picture)

The square holes are hitch receivers and the round holes are for tweaking tubing. I deal with various dia. tube and more often than not. When I bend stuff it needs a little adjustment. Hard to bend 1.75'' DOM tubing without being able to anchor your work down properly. Therefore the holes. Now I can put one end in the table and give her at the other end without having to worry about any tipping.

Do you not understand the cost trade-off process? I can certainly understand why people buy benches instead of hand-making them... time & money

I say if have craftsman or gladiator cabinets and boxes a matching bench looks great to complete the look. On other hand building a custom bench is a option when then don't make something that fits your needs. I do prefer the built not bought idea myself but to each their own. Whatever fits the space and theme of the owner. Although today there are so many nice benches to buy out there the decision is tough.

Nastyzen - any detail pictures on the legs and the wheels? Appears the wheels retract for firm placement on the legs. Awesome bench and attention to function.

Looks awesome! How did you go about getting/fabbing the top plates with all the holes? And will the holes work with the Stronghand clamps, etc?

Chris

I put one of them in a bridgeport and drilled the 2"x 2" pilot hole grid pattern so the first one was perfect. From there I matched drilled all of the other ~600 holes with a drill press which took me wayyy longer than I thought it would. The middle row on each plate will work with most stronghand stuff. The outer two rows have 1/2-13 nuts welded on the back for other clamping fixtures.

These arent the best pics, but you get the idea. 2x4 frame, 2x6 boards on top. Super strong. Shelf underneath to strengthen frame add storage, except the spot for the table saw.

All custom and made from scratch. Took a little bit of time but like the way they turned out.

Two work benches that were both built from scratch. Both use 4x4 post on the corners, 2x6 around the outside with 2x4 cross braces under 3/4 top. The one with the face is 3/4 with spring assist hinges to keep doors shut. Each one has 2 4' work lights over the benches.

Raised in the center to allow legs to clear while sitting on stool working. Wall has since been painted

Built in side box to hold drill bits and wheels for grinder.

Some great builds lately!! Kudos to everybody.

Arps---I love that idea of hiding the seasonal items like snowblower and other misc yard **** that loves to clutter our garages. I had a similar idea, but I like your stacked idea better.

Uncletater----very well thought out plan indeed! Efficient use of storage beside the garage door with all of the specially cut doors. Great builds of pull outs in cabinets in the first picture. Favorite was the secret hose reel.
Also, I spy a Professional Bull Rider.

Made this for my lathe and all it's goodies and other ****. Had an old wooden one that served the purpose but was always messy. So I put this together from finds at the local Habitat for Humanity reuse store. 4 filing cabinets, a rolling base and a solid wood door. Haven't tried it out yet, granted sets up a bit high but for as much as I use it will work just fine.

Here are a couple pics of the bench I designed and built myself 10 years ago. When I moved into my house about 15 years ago, there was an old bridge plank made of yellow pine, leaning against the wall in the garage (Thank you, previous owners!). I took it up to my dad's and planed it down to build my bench top out of- turned out to be perfect for this. There isn't any wasted space inside or out- it's all utilized for storage.

If anyone is interested in the design of my workbench, I have pics from the beginning all the way through the build- just ask.

You should create a fresh thread and throw the pics up. everybody always wants more garage / shop / bench / toolbox ****, and inspiration comes from the damnedest places, so who knows what your pictures / process might shake loose for somebody.

Main workbench plus out feed table to the right. I built the top in 2006 but rebuilt the base in 2009. It is laminated plywood with tenon and mortise joints.

Lathe bench. I have since made a bracket for the switch you see hanging.
