Yea that was a cool video.

We've got Wright sockets and combination wrenches in the shop box at work. The sockets are nice and the wrenches are REALY beefy. I have never seen such solid wrenches.

Did they drop the Cougar line?

I've been looking for a metric set of Proto ASD but I may have to wait now.

"We tell the bean counters, to go count beans." What a great video. Gave me chills. That should be a tv commercial.

So Proto has new 90t ratchet, SK has new pearhead ratchet, Wright has new style wrenches all released within a few days/week of each other. What will strike next?

I think HF will release their NoGrip wrench in a few weeks.

I like these new wrenches from Wright. I have their WrightGrip 1.0. It feel very high quality and hefty. Might get these new wrench eventhough I have bunch of sets from SO, Bonney, Craftsman Pro, Proto, and Wright 1.0.

Me after watching that video.......

P.S. I might piss my britches if Wright ever offered a long pattern WrightGrip wrench line.

I have 2 sets of Wright combo wrenches (SAE and Metric) and a 1/2 drive socket set, purchased from an Uncle Bill's Store in the mid 70s. All have been worked hard, and never a failure. My WrightGrips have served me well, as well. Now I need to buy a couple of new sets. Thanks Wright LOL

I own one Wright socket--its very large, and fits the axle nut on the front axle of my pickup. Its just what was available in the right size at the right time. It's substantial, but I never gave it much thought. I needed to use a wrench at my FIL's place today, and for the first time ever, I used a Wright wrench. It was an old version, satin finish. It was the most solid wrench I've ever held. Had a few in my hand at once and even the "clang" they made against each other was awesome.

I will be upgrading my wrenches in the not too distant future, and while I love the Snap Ons, their long pattern wrench beams are a little "sharp" for my liking. I may have to give Wright a serious look. Great video.

Hey guys, it's Ty at Wright. For now, all I can say is that the wrench lengths/body will stay the same, but we have made a change in the open end that makes it more efficient applying torque to a fastener. I'll update everyone here when we have firm release dates and technical specs!

OK. I guess will have to wait for SK to start making their long pattern combination wrenches with the antislip open end from their X Frame ratcheting wrenches since Wright doesn't sense the need for a longer pattern set of wrightgrips. :wtf:

let me preface this. i own wright tools and like them. my favorites are a set of wright grip black oxide sae wrenches(#720). also the video is great.

but...... it says right in the video. "if you need a tool and we don't have it we will make it". well unless someone wants a length of wrench other than the "one" length you choose to make that is. every major tool mfg out there offers a choice of lengths and seem to have no issues offering them. it is ridiculous to ignore requests from customers for years. i have combo wrenches in stubby, short, long and extra long lengths. 3 of the four are unavailable from wright. a large chunk of the market you just shut yourself out of.

is it too hard to make a wrench an inch longer or shorter? if it is, then how is that you can make standard and deep sockets? standard, long and compact ratchets? different length extensions?

The video was badass but I think wright is ******* up. I've never heard anyone complain about the open end....but have seen plenty of people begging for long pattern wrenches. Me included I will wait until they make them to buy a set

I would rather see a company make some good extra long length wrenches. Like 2+x the length of craftsman. Leverage!!! But I like my current set just as well. With a bar over them.

They are almost to long actually and I only use them as a specialty tool, long flat DBE are more useful, they make a dozen metric sizes.
I too think Wright are missing out by not making a long pattern, their wrenches are on the short side of the average as it is and a long set with a large length increase would sell, I can see why they haven't, a full set of wrench dies is a major investment.
I have both a metric and SAE Wright grip set, they are really nice to use and obviously very strong.

No, they recently updated the socket sets and they now come in plastic cases. I just got the A36 set a couple weeks ago myself.

Darn I bought a new set of 958's about a month ago as an impulse buy. Kinda kicking myself now knowing something new is on the horizon and I didnt need these. Oh well such is life and I can't complain that theyre continuing to improve their products.

What wrench racks are those? I think Im looking in the wrong place because I havent found a rack with enough slots to fit them all in one row...

Funny I was just looking at ones like that on Amazon.

Which specific ones do you have? Im on their site now and it seems they have a few different ones with very specific differences that at a high level Im not picking up on. I know I've seen a wrench rack thread on here so I should probably pop into that thread and see.

Personally, I'm glad to see the evolving product, I'm in the market for new sets of combination wrenches, and will probably buy Wright, though original vs 2.0 won't sway my purchase. However, if they made a long pattern set I would definately go that route.

And those wrench racks might be the snap on large wrench rails.

I believe the only difference is the piece count and how they secure to the drawer at the bottom. I personally have the 40-ct racks without any tape or magnets, and they work great in my drawers with liner. I've only recently found that they don't fit my new SAE Wrightgrips very well since the Wrights are so thick, especially in 1"+ sizes.

I do also have a set of low profile Ernst rails, but they only fit 15 wrenches and take up too much real state for my liking.

Once you pick the color you want (red or black), if they only have numbers in the part number they are basic plastic rails that sit in the drawer and rely on the weight of any unused wrenches sitting in the rack to hold them in place. Part numbers that end in M have magnetic strips on the bottom of the rails, and part numbers that end in T have double sided tape on the bottom of the rails. The Space Saver sets are different because one pair of rails has the individual wrench holders flipped around backwards so the largest wrench sizes will sit in the front of the rack instead of at the back like normal. That allows you to store multiple wrench sets closer together in a drawer because they will interlock more tightly when sets are placed next to each other.

Ahh ok now that I look at it guess I was overthinking this. So basically
612M = red magnetic
http://www.ernstmfg.com/store/p/70-6012M-20-Tool-Wrench-Rail-Organizers-Red-Magnetic-Tape.aspx
613M = black magnetic
http://www.ernstmfg.com/store/p/71-6013M-20-Tool-Wrench-Rail-Organizers-Black-Magnetic-Tape.aspx
614M = red magnetic with 40
http://www.ernstmfg.com/store/p/77-...Wrench-Rail-Organizers-Red-Magnetic-Tape.aspx
615M = black magnetic
http://www.ernstmfg.com/store/p/76-...ench-Rail-Organizers-Black-Magnetic-Tape.aspx

I think magnetic is the way to go granted Id have to put that most likely under my drawer liner and then cut slits in the liner. However SS- you mentioned not using the ones with tape and just putting it on top of the drawer liner. Maybe just keep it simple like that.

Anyway, Ive totally got this thread off topic. I just want to get some nice racks to store my 958's along with all my other ratchets which sadly are just polished cmans...

Hmmm yeah those do take up a good amount of space. My wrenches are in my HF 56" and the drawer also isnt that deep. Of course I could use a different drawer but I felt a shallow drawer for wrenches makes sense. Ill have to take some measurements but thats a good point about the height and something I didnt even think about. The think about those low profile ones that would drive me crazy and the reason Im looking for better racks is I want one to fit all of the wrenches and not have a couple stragglers.

I have solid liner from HF that is kind of sticky and holds the racks in place just fine with the weight of wrenches on them. I think any liner will suffice in holding them in place, but would go with tape or magnetic if they're in a drawer without liner.

And to keep this slightly on topic, I just wish they would fit my biggest Wright wrenches! I'm going to have to be on the hunt now for some other type of storage for them.

1foxracing - Why do you have two sets of the exact same length wrenches? I too have duplicate sets, but in different places. Wouldn't you prefer a standard length matched with a stubby or xl set, even if another brand? And now you're talking about picking up the 2.0 version.

Hmmm well I have that crappy bumpy liner from HF that came with my chest so Im not sure how well the things would sit on top of it. But also makes me think that with a liner in place the magnetic ones are pointless. Sorry Ive completely derailed this thread...

How large is your largest wright wrench? I dont tend to need large wrenches; so my largest is only a 24mm. For larger stuff Im usually OK with sockets like axle nuts for example.

I've used a few different wrench racks, but IMO the Snap On versions are the best. You can fit as many wrenches as you want, in any order or length because they are separate rails. They also save a lot more space then any other rack I've used. Worth the $16 or whatever I paid for them. I keep up to 23mm in my small rack, but they can't be removed from box as a set since these are individual rails.

Many times when removing a 17mm bolt it has a 17mm nut on the opposite side. Plus you can never own to many wrench sets or any tools for that matter.

I have not really seen that before. I was pretty sure most things were designed to avoid that.

It happens... not often though, IME. Example: motorcycle throttle cable adjuster, 8mm for barrel and lock/back-up nut.

Most of my duplicates are in different styles.

I have 9 sets of regular length wrenches (and additional sets of ratcheting, flex heads, stubby, offset ratcheting etc), and I will be buying a set of the 2.0s when they come out.

No lol I know and agree. I just meant two exact same sets in the same drawer. I keep one full set of each length in same drawer, with duplicates elsewhere. Reason I asked is because I thought that was a 26" box, but now I see another drawer next to it. He's probably got the room.

I just counted and including ratcheting wrenches I have 14 complete sets of metric wrenches alone. I started this thread on Wright Tools though and would like to keep it that way.
