I didn't even bother to plow the drive way.
I have the plows off both atvs so I'm calling winter is done!

Hahaha, I called winter done, too. Now there's 2-3" of fluff sitting in the driveway and they're calling for more. I guess Mother Nature didn't hear the two of us (or the dudes running around in shorts). :D

SUB & BRENT: i'm totally not surprised you both still have snow cause it snowed here yesterday too. we usually only get snow in the mountains and this might be the 4th time it's snowed this year here in the city. on top of that a propane truck tipped over on the main freeway through town yesterday and closed that freeway both ways for over 24 hours. talk about a traffic nightmare cause it's already bad when freeway is open.

let's just say WINTER WILL BE OVER SOON!!

SUB: your insulated attic door looks great, but the Charger in the driveway looks better. do you drive it in the snow and slip slide down the road or just use it for dry days?

loving the fact you have heat in your shop so you can work in their now anytime of year.

I hear you on the snow over ice situation. We call the required special walk "The TBay Shuffle".

Permanent light...nice! With a wood stove, that fan will be an excellent addition to distribute the BTUs. We have an airtight fireplace in the house that gets fired up regularly to keep the Missus and kids at in their happy place when it's -30 outside.

Sub, you get my persistence award for plugging away at your shop. Going back over your journal is already a real eye opener in terms of progress. I smile every time reading it.

Re: Yea Old Garage

Drives the Car never goes out on the road if there is salt on the road.
so from November till April/May its on winter hibernation.

its for nice weather driving only!

It was only outside so I could move it to the other side of the garage back in it normal winter parking side of the garage. It was moved over next to the woodstove side so I could finish up the insulation and Fan Install where the car normally is parked.

the 78 ford F150 starts easy and goes in/out when I'm working in the garage the car is more of a production to get started and moved and plus it can get stuck on wet grass if your not careful.

Car was stuck right here next to the house had to due some rocking to get it out of this spot.

this Pic Circa 2013 car was getting moved into the garage for the winter.

quiet the change to what the garage is now.

Denwood thanks for stopping by!

you never really appreciate having insulation/heat and electricity in your garage till you don't have those things and go through a winter with out.
Heck the first year out at this house didn't even have this garage.

the Daily Drivers still have to sit outside but I have a plan in the works to get them sheltered as well but first need to get this place done up how I want.
that's probably still 1-2 years out to get this finished as when the weather turns nice I get side tracked by other projects. Kids in Boy/Cub Scouts and soccer games and weekend camping trips and Fire Department training etc.
plus working a full time job, Life just seems to get in the way of working on garage projects but now I can work on the garage in any weather which is nice since I seem to have down weekends in winter where I can get a whole day to work out in the garage and it only take 1 hour to get the temp up to nice working condition's. Plus now I have a AC unit in the wall I might get in some summer work on day's with the temp in the 90's Ill be able to cool the garage down to nice working conditions and work away out there as well.
so bring on the July 90 degree weekend day's I'll have plenty to work on in comfortable conditions. I hope!

okay Ive rambled on long enough.

I don't mind winter very much as long as the temp is above 15 I'm good and with little or no wind I'm good to go.

I kinda like plowing snow with the ATV its fun for me!

Plus I love Winter snow riding on the ATV as long as the temp is not super cold.

though winter may show up it can only last for a week or 2 at this point.

They grow folks a little tougher up there! 15* and I'm not having any fun. I once took a nearly cross country trip up into Canada in February and I had some transmission troubles. A buddy of mine whom lived in Winnepeg is walking around in a thin jacket and no took/hat (no hair, either). It had to be below zero (*F) and he's bouncing around like I would on a spring day. Like I said, they grow you all a little tougher.

I assumed growing up in the northeast would have made me like you all. But, I can admit, I'm not tough like that. :D

I'm not that tough just dress for the weather. Long Johns and insulated workpants and 2 layers of socks and winter boots, Long sleeve thermal t shirt.
probably 2 sweat shirts and heavy coat gloves and the ATV has Heated hand/thumb grips!

though winter is back today getting 3-5" of snow in the forecast but temps in the 50's for the weekend upcoming.

Re: Yea Old Garage

That, sir, is a very pretty picture and you should be very proud.

Thanks though Mother Nature privode the snow I just have the blood sweat and tears invested in the garage part!

Today starting to purge atv workshop in preparation for spring garage sale.

Wife picked up this small compressor off of curb last fall and it's been on my to look at list since?
I thought the compressor was probably shot but if the tank was good I'd keep that part as a portable emergency tank to fill and go if needed.

Plugged it in last fall and motor ran 30 seconds the oil started pouring out top relief valve. okay so it's got some problem whatever it gets stashed back in a hidey hole for the winter I'll look into it again some day.

Today is the day read the instructions on the cover and it mentions oil level sight glass, H'mmm lets find that, yep full of oil pull breather plug of where oil is spitting out when running, yep oil there as well. H'mmmm thinking there might be to much oil in there?
Now that I think about it stuff looks kinda whipped and frothy coming out of breather spout?
Pull sight glass out and drain out 1 pie pan full.
Oil level now right above sight glass I think tilted compressor and drained another 1/2 pie pan the put sight glass back in and took 1-5 seconds for sight glass to show full oil.

Plugged in compressor and runs up to 150 psi shuts off.
Bleed out tank turns back on. Have cycle through 4-5 on/off cycles now.
Sweet I have a 2nd air compressor now small and portable!

Now due I put it on garage sale for $50
Or keep it around to have a spare?
Keep 1 in atv shop other can go up to yea old garage?
Other compressor is just a 20 gallon 5hp Coleman traditional type

Pros on keeping it.
Small,
Portable,
Grab and go if needed.

Cons,
Due I need 2 compressors?
Also have a craftsman 19.2v air pump that has done tires if needed that takes along time though.

I'm thinking I'll keep it around?
Thoughts?
Pic of compressor!

Re: Yea Old Garage

Thanks Grumblebum,

Yep I think I'm gonna like the portability of that little compressor. Thanks to the wife for picking it up off the curb!

Today I worked on my ATV Workshop I have a Awing that I want to put up over my double doorway that the ATV's go in/out of and help keep the snow out of that doorway area.

though first I worked on the Holes that some woodpeckers had put into the t-11 siding that I have had. I had filled the holes with GreatStuff Insulation but then I have funking look's to the siding.

I need to caulk above the patch's will wait for some warmer weather to get that done.

so here is a before and after pics on the siding.

Re: Yea Old Garage

so I am back to working on the awing for the ATV work Shop and last time I worked on this was Back in November of 2015, so I guess it has been a back burner project?

any way got the temp wall up to support the awing. this is just a temp to hold the awing up and then on the other side ill build the wall how I want it to be and then replace the temp wall with another wall as well. or that is the working plan.

Before the awing goes up I'll need to get a rain gutter put up on the roof as well. I have the gutter and its even painted brown to match the roof color.

Rain cutter will tie into a rain barrel to help with the garden watering.
love it when a 4 year plan starts to maybe come together.

any way Pics of the temp wall and I had to trim out my temp holding board to get the doorway bridge handle into the closed postion. Door way bridge is to protect the doorway jamb from the ATV's and Garden tractor going in/out, also keeps the doors open so they don't try and close when moving stuff in/out of the atv workshop.

Re: Yea Old Garage

So the Garage got pressed into service for the spring garage sale!

Wife had a ton of stuff set up in the other workshop, all the clothes, toys, knick knack stuff and kids bake sale for Boy/Cub Scout's.

Truck got booted outside for a week. Yea Old Garage held the big bulky items,

we had a couch, kids table, end table.

From the Sister-in-law house entertainment center, microwave, computer desk, microwave stand, close hamper,

From the Mother-in-law some plant holder stands, camp chair, hammock,
also 1 long wooden single book shelf.

I set up a 4x8 plywood on saw horse's to put the smaller stuff on up higher for people to look at. arrange the bigger stuff around the garage.

The Car was left inside the garage and Mother-in-law proceeds to move her 1 long Wooden book shelf over next to the car and stand it up on the small end.
"I had this on the plywood table"

I wasn't up there when this happened. I was putting up the garage sale signs. out on the highway.

any way come back and everything is going along fine and dandy. I had opened the rear garage door and was working on a ATV Rack project out the back of the garage so if people stop by and look at stuff I'm there to answer questions.

Talking to some guy about the car, is it for sale and what year and yadda yadda yadda, Big gust of wind comes through the garage and that 1 long wooden book shelf wobbles and starts to tip towards the car!

#$#%#%^^&$%^$%&$$^#$%^#$^$
Thank god it only hit upon the door handle and stopped there.

other wise I'm pretty sure it would have added anther chip into the paint!

needles to say the 1 long wooden shelf got moved back over onto the plywood table!

any way some pics of the garage sale setup!

I'll Miss the little fire truck it gave us 8 great years of service!

Sub: i'm sure i need to have a garage sale or just roll up the doors at my storage units and put a FREE SIGN on them. hard to believe you get people up to your place since you don't really look like you have any neighbors, but i guess the city folks wanting to go for a drive come to see you and yours as much as the stuff you've collected and no longer need.

glad to hear the car survived the near catastrophe.

cheers (ice tea for this old guy as if you didn't know)

Re: Yea Old Garage

Drives, Us and 3 of the neighbors all on the little back road all have the garage sale at the same time.

and we run before the Spring City Wide sales start. Which happens this weekend end.

Next town over has City wide sales, My Hometown Has City wide sales week after Easter and so on and so forth.
we jump ahead of those and since the bulk of ours is in the ATV workshop its heated and out of the wind for the most part.

My house is down off the road 1/8 mile so they have to come down the drive way to park and we have them stopping in.

My folks and other neighbors have to keep there garage doors open as they are off of the roadway and they'll have people drive by and not stop.

we also have the Kid's clothes' and toys which Is the big draw items.

the other neighbors are all retired and have just knick knack typical garage sale stuff.

due a Add in the local paper and also on the County For sale Facebook group and some signs up out on the Highway also help.

Re: Yea Old Garage

Whoa, that could've been a lot worse.

yep was back on my own 5 acres and within site of the shop had just rounded the last big bend in the trail and was only going 10mph. suddenly there's a weird sound and the handle bars are acting funky. I look down and the tire is leaned way in the wrong way.

Im lucky as just 2 minutes sooner was flying up the gravel lane at top speed!

so jump off go get the other ATV with the Hybrid Logging arch and hook up broken ATV and a slow tow trip around to the work shop.

This is my Main Work/Plow ATV and just glad this didn't happen in Mid winter when I need it for plowing snow.

Wife is stopping at parts store and getting my a new ball joint for it tonight and I should have it all back together sometime tomorrow.

Sub: nice work on the door's covering so next time you need to use it during snow season you'll have use of it and you won't have to dig your way in or out of the Yea Old Garage.

best of luck with the ATV repair. you run those all the time and i'm betting you'd not be a happy camper if one or both were not usable.

Re: Yea Old Garage

1/2 cup as always thanks for stopping by!:rocker:

Drives,
The awing is for the ATV workshop.

The double doorway what the ATV's go in and out.

At one time it was a photo studio, the big room where the ATV's live in winter,
Small office that has all my tools and rolling work bench.
Small bathroom and sink. Plus a 2nd room that has fouse ball table and a bunch of other stuff. Also was my workout center.
The defend your light saber battle took place in the atv workshop!

The awing is to help protect the double doorway.

I have had problems with snow buildup between the doors and the bridge that goes down to protect the door transom from the atv Going in/out.

It's a pain to shovel the snow out between bridge and doorway, then snow gets compacted and turns to ice then doors don't shut. Big pain having to chisel ice out and not due damage to the door transom.

It's nice having ATV's in a semi heated area though!
they start great and if I need due any work there close to the tools as well.

Having a atv down felt like a vital cog of the operations that go on around here was missing!

Atv back up and functional now!

So back to full atv strength!
2 Honda Foremans and the wife Honda rancher did fill in duty with the main Foreman down!

Yea old garage is for the big toys! Charger/F150 truck
Though a atv and trailer stays up there for the summer months!

Thanks for stopping buy!
I hope not to confusing for you!
And I'll be off soda on Monday so preach while you can!

atv Repair done.

was only without the ATV for 6 days and feel a lot better having that unit back up and functioning. even though I haven't used it for much of anything I don't like not having the ATV available if I due have a job for it.

some Pics of the ATV repair.

the before and after more or less.

and some use with ratchet straps to help hold thing up and in place.

sorry the first is so dark but it shows the lower A arm not connected where the ball joint let loose.

the Ball part came out of the Cup part on the ball joint.

I got a new ball joint and had to take the old one out, Did some youtube research on the best way to get this done and was able to repair this myself.

I also got a new snap ring pliers out of this since I need that to get the upper part of the ball joint removed. I have 1 someplace and looked in the 4 or 5 places I thought is should be and didn't find it so I just got a new one and now I'll have 2 when/if I due find the other one.

new Ball joint was only like $20.00 or so.

Snow is long gone and wont be back till November/December.

Re: Yea Old Garage

so with the ATV repair done, its back to the Awing project which started back at post 533,

updated on 540,

1st pic

and now on to the home stretch of this project.
2nd wall added up and it Has a shelf built in to hold the GAS can and Chainsaw gas a Nice sheltered place but not inside the building where gas fumes can build up and make is smell bad. also will be easy to get to during the winter months.

also room behind the shelf to vertical store 8' 2x4's room for 20 of them.

the work crew got to use the power tools to take the temp holding wall apart they really liked the power drills to remove the screws.

and then I got them to work on Staining the awing walls to somewhat match the color of the ATV workshop.

so now they all have there summer painting/staining clothes marked out that they can use on other things going forward.!

Sub: speaking of chainsaw and small engine gas have you tried or do you use NON ETHANOL gas for your small engines? i have and have had better success especially if i happened to not burn off the gas in the tank or out of the carbs before putting them away for winter.

love the crew getting to use the tools and wishing we had battery operated tools when we were growing up. keep an eye on them once they learn how to use the sawsall and the chainsaws. don't want them or your stuff getting hurt.

Re: Yea Old Garage

the Boys got to use the Saws all with the pruning blade on it for trimming trees,
also had the pruning shear out as well.

I had them working on some of the pine branches.

and then getting the trailer loaded up.

this was right next to the awing project so I was able to keep a eye on them.

the chainsaw is way to much for them to use yet.

For Gas in the small engines/chainsaws I run the Non Ethanol stuff.

for the extra cost in gas its worth it to not have the headache's working to keep the small engines running.

I would rent them out,
heck some days I would think I might pay for them to work for somebody else!

though on the one pick Had extra helper over for the day and they all seemed to work better with the extra hand on deck who loves to be outside all day every day.

Yes they due get told they have done a good job.
The work crew is very very finicky though I turn around and they all seem to disappear on me at times :dunno:

or when helping me work on stuff tools/materials seem to go missing quite often and I spend time finding them again.

Also when the Work crew has made mom mad in the house they due seem to be more engage in helping me outside to get out of inside house punishment?

the current outside punishment is to have to pick up a bucket of gravel rocks in the yard from the winter snowplowing or the ever poplar pick up sticks!

still good times :rocker:

thanks for stopping by!

Be glad you live somewhere that you can get non ethanol gasoline. The reformulated, oxygenated garbage we have available is awful. I know a few places near the lakes that have pure gasoline and I try to have my jugs empty and with me every time I have my truck near there. It smells like what I remember from my younger days. Any equipment I am not going to use again within a week or so gets run dry and the carb fogged. This has cut down on my carb repairs. Gotta love alcohol fuels and high humidity.

Re: Yea Old Garage

Sub, you were lucky indeed on that ball joint failure! Could have been a yard sale going full tilt and losing control...

Your shop and labor force seem to be plugging along just fine :)

Re: Yea Old Garage

Sub: I love the work for punishment idea and complaining maybe double the work.

hopefully they are not in trouble all that much, but with 3 the age that yours are they sure can test the dad and mom's patience while they learn.

cheers

Drives the work for Punishment struck again last night.

Kids are all in Soccer and after 1 frantic morning search for soccer gear in the basement they now each have there own Tub for there soccer gear.

Before was a big tub for soccer gear and they would fight over who put what where etc etc,

so last night after soccer practice and after the kids have gone to bed there's 2 soccer balls and a pair of cleats on the basement floor.

Enter the Soccer Thief who left the following note on there tub's.

The Soccer Thief has stolen the soccer equipment that wasn't put away.

If you want your Soccer Equipment you must write out 100 times
"I will put my Soccer Equipment away when done"

then you will get your soccer equipment back.

the Soccer Thief!

Krcoomer yep have to run the good gas in the small engines seems to make life go better with less problems,

Denwood I keep busy working on things when I have time between Soccer Games/Practice, Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts Stuff/ and Fire Department,

plus the full time job!
Life sure seems busy for me!
