How many quarts did you end up with? Does your brush tear up the yard? I see that Stihl makes one that's like a weed whacker. Been thinking of getting one.

13 pints so far from the chief I'm just the hack outside who cooks it down I don't get in on the final product finishing.

Brush was okay on the yard just dont let it dig in to hard.
Still have to fine tune and get some limit wheels on the brush instead of trying to feather the height with the Hydro lift.
also when digging in to much it would throw the chain of on the broom drive so would have to stop and fix that. Its a learning process and was a pretty steep curve to start with but still better than a Rake and hand work to get the gravel back in the driveway!

Drives, growing up in the Northeast, we would drive to Vermont in the autumn to admire the changing colors of the leaves. Maple trees were among the most colorful. We took the back roads and saw covered bridges and farms and every once in a while would spot a small shack with an extra little roof on top. Those were designed for boiling maple sap down into syrup in the spring. As Matt has shown, it's a drawn-out process and being able to do it in a dry place is nice. Here's a typical Sugar Shack:

BOB: so SUGAR SHACK is right down the road from the LOVE SHACK?

just kidding and thanks again for enlightening me to the world's common terms that are not common to me.

speaking of that picture of your Sugar shack it looks like something I should build here for my woodworking shop.

SUB: putting all those stoves in a building maybe make it a bit bigger and it can double as your heated gym?

have a great weekend!!

I hate setting up garage sales. Better you than I. And how many quarts/gallons of syrup did you guys end up with?

I dont mind the setup so much as long as I'm not being rushed and have time to sort and put things where I want them. Not happening this year, I have 1 atv trailer full of stuff from the shop and gonna need to load the 2nd one as well so that the shop is cleaned out enough to run the garage sale.

Its putting all the stuff back afterwards and then the I knew where this was before the sale and now I spend 2 hours trying to find it again after the sale.

28 Quarts of syrup made this year,

3 week run and thinking next year I'll have 3 of the barrels stoves setup to run I have the barrel and the kit is only $45 and make a stove from the barrel.

I'll also keep a eye on FB and Craigslist If I can get another free standing wood stove like the 2nd that has a heavy cast top surface that one worked pretty good for boiling off the sap.

just need to get it where I can make the sap run and be done in 6-8 hours.

your garage sale seems like an annual occasion almost like a weekend get together for your friends to stop by and do some buying, trading and maybe some eating and drinking too?

do you drag all the stuff you are selling to town to your rental or dad's place cause it sounds like you have a garage there maybe since i think you'd have more buyers? it seems like you are well off the beaten path especially with 100 acre tree preserve next to you?

i've never had a garage sale and I used to loan my garage sale signs to use them cause they'd have one every year.

I hope the mud dries up and turns to grass soon.

yep drives we have a garage sale every spring to sell off things the kids don't use anymore and the clothes that they don't fit into either.

didn't have one last year due to the Covid stuff, so this year we have 2x the stuff and most years we already have plenty of stuff.

I also sell off some things I don't want/need some of my other items I put up for sale as eye candy for guys to look at outside so there wives can shop in peace inside. I stay outside and chat the guys up and keep them busy so the woman folk can shop in peace.

IF somebody wants to pay 2x the value for something I'll sell it but that hasn't happened to me yet. The Charger always gets asked about as well and if its for sale and price is $25,000.00 and now looking at muscle car prices are crazy high this year so car price would be $50,000.00

also in years past have sold baked good with the profits going into the kids Boy Scout fund but wont be having baked goods for sale this year.

in the past when was between renters we took stuff to town and ran a sale there the same as the city wide garage sale weekend.

City wide sale is 3 weeks away we run before any of the city wide sale's start up as we can't draw against 30plus garage sales going on. but out on the little road we live on there are 5 garage sales all on the same day so its worth the drive out to go to 5 sales on the same road for people and since ours is inside a heated building it works good for us. people dont like to look over stuff and be cold ours is nice and warm inside. for the bulk of the stuff to look at.

I'd have taken the radio Flyer off your hands for the right price.

think that one was $20 lasted till midday and was gone,

Had a older one as well that also got sold that Had a wood bottom. to cover the rust and keep the rear tires attached. that one was $10

Still have a nice rubber tire one with removable side boards that I kept for my own use.

congrats on getting some of the stuff you and your family were not using anymore down the road so you'll have room for more STUFF.

any offers on the Charger?

looks like a nice sunny spring day too which I'm sure was nice so you didn't have to tent and could put a lot of stuff outside for the shoppers.

what's on your spring TO DO LIST?

had a few ask about the charger and the price and this years price is $50,000.00 for it. Muscle Cars are stupid $$$ from what I have been looking at on Facebook the last month.

Car was in garage and not even out in sight.

Little cool in the morning but still had great weather for the sale.

the to due list.

the spring to due list get wood cut and shed filled for next winter.

Need to move the outhouse Chicken Feed Storage building to a better spot than where it is at.

Build a sugar shack for next years maple syrup run and get the sap stoves in under the sugar shack.

Getting a different camper and may need to revamp camper shed to fit the new camper.

have a 3rd John Deere 140 tractor need to get running to be able to mow the yard with.
Have 1st John Deere 140 that I need to fix that it will charge the battery when running right now it runs for 1 hour before the battery drains and wont run.

We are going to have 2 pigs to raise this year and need to finish there Pen area and get water and feed system squared away for the pigs as well.

Want to make a bigger Pavilion area by the wood boiler for Wood storage and wood cutting.

Have bridge to put in down in wood land for ATV trail access on other side of the creek.

There is always work to due on the Garage as well.

that should keep me busy till fall.

also have my sawmill to get setup,

Need to make where the Boiler lines go into house and workshop look better as well instead of the pipe just coming out of the side of the house.

Hook up Boiler lines to heat Hot water in the House as well. Put drywall back up in basement that I took down to run the Pex lines for house heat.

lots to due that is for sure

looks like a 2-3 year TO DO LIST if you ask me, but I bet you'll get r done (or most of it). good luck with that.

also you'll need to add to your list to clean up your workout room so we can both do a needed P90x 90 day workout cause we both need to not only keep in shape, but get more out of our aging bodies so we can both get our TO DO LISTS checked off some while new items seem to be added all the time.

cheers and glad you didn't sell your Charger cause you'd have to try and find something else to fill it's spot that i'm guessing you wouldn't like as well.

So is the shop all back to "normal" now?

I still have 1 ATV trailer full of stuff from a table and shelf stand that I need to put back in the shop. but all the garage sale stuff is out of the shop.

though my 78 F150 is plum full of stuff going to a church auction in a few weeks.

so shop is clean as it will be for the next year more or less.

working on the non running 69 140 today, starting tear down on it to find out what I need to get it back running.

Starter is toast so I'll be getting the starter on it sent out for repair.

trying to sort out some of the wiring harness as well

Think I got the truck parked a little bit close to the car on this one,

I had one of the kids watching but If I was watching that I would have been way to nervous on being this close.

WOW. that's too close for me too and i've got old hondas with 200K on them. GEESH and good luck getting it out without scratching your baby.

I see some sunshine sneaking inside your garage so maybe spring has actually showed up in your part of the world?

have a great day and best of luck with all the old tractors that you seem to fix as you need to cause you can.

Do you shave that close? Somebody must have real faith in your skills. Have you thought about upgrading your truck radio? Been thinking about getting a Custom Autosound or Classic Car radio as an upgrade, that way I can have decent features without cutting up the dash on the GF.
