I'm 27, my wife 24, and we move into our first house in 2 weeks.

Have been hard at work planning storage and work space. Hope to have half the garage for woodworking tools.

Here is my first pic of my garage on here. I am pretty happy with the set up for now. I am 26 and this is my first house. I have a customerscar in the garage right now but can't wait to start using it!

My house, just turned 26 yesterday. I've been in it a year now and working on the garage. Behind the house you can see my boat and shed. The boat and shed are on a random 36x24 cement pad, which is where the barn will go up next year.

You guys should all be very proud of yourselves. There are a lot of 22-28 years old living in their parents basements!

24 here. I used to be pretty proud of my 12x22 single, but man, it's probably the smallest one here yet (though I love it just as much as anyone with a big place). I'm sorta puzzled as to how a lot of you guys can afford such massive, new houses with massive, new garages.. and then fill them with numerous massive, new toys... My house is a 900sqft bungalow from the 1940's, with a single car garage (250sqft). I'm an Industrial Designer, and my wife's a teacher, and life is still super expensive. Maybe Young people are just smart about earning and saving, or people are just massively in debt. Anyways, there are some very nice places on here.

Enough wailing, here's my input.

Just turned 29, my house and toys. Volvo technician going on 9 years.

Earning and saving, it doesnt happen over night. I had alot of patiance over the years. I would always bring lunch to work, figure $50 a week saved, $200 a month easy just in that. I work with so many people who eat out for lunch EVERY day... Its the little things that add up... As far as debt goes, I always lived by the, "If you can't afford it now, you can't afford it later." I have seen way too many people get in over their heads. My wife and I COULD have afforded a bigger house, but we didn't NEED all that space.

We bought our first house 3 years ago when I was 29 so hopefully that makes me eligible for this thread. Most people think I'm 21 or so anyway

Heres my humble 20x20 when we first moved in.

im 28 and bought my first house 1.5 yrs ago. I am a packaging engineer and I bought this size of house b/c I knew I can afford it easily and if I ever lose my job, im not going to have to sell it. My gf has a lung disease and I wanted to make sure I always have a safe place for her.

Don't fret, you live in Ajax... If everyone here started posting how much they paid for their houses and what their monthly living expenses you would see a massive jump between those living in the States and those living in Canada. So even though just based on the pictures my garage is bigger, there is a very good chance you still paid more for yours.

I'm 26, moved in to my first house this past winter in the downtown core of a city of 300,000+ people (Ontario). I have a 16x24' detached garage I am fixing up. Shingles were shot, no sheathing, no insulation, terrible garage door/man door, only saving grace is a decent pad and it already has a 100A panel installed.

Not much to look at but here's the only shot I have of my garage. It's a "two" car attached in the sense that it's the majority of the bottom floor of my house (townhome).

I'm 27 and bought the house a year ago and the car less than a week ago. My other car is a '06 F-150 - just a basic work truck.

As to Mr. 360 - at 24 I had just graduated college, and just moved out of a black mold infested $300/month apartment and drove a beat up '98 Nissan Frontier. You are way ahead of where I was at the time - and I'm jealous of your garage! You're doing great man! Careful saving and smart investing go a long way - along with a frugal and budget smart wife!

Resembling that remark...

Been living with my in-laws for the past 2 years looking for a place after our house sold (also had some health problems with the youngest, which thank God didn't happen while we had a mortgage... something about 3 months lost work and $1m+ wouldn't have made for a good time.) and we just found the perfect place all the while still paying our last mortgage giving us a very nice down payment (>20%). Closing in a week. I'll post pics then and most likely be posting lots of stuff then, because the garage (3 car detach) is in DESPERATE need of some TLC.

Dubber-
What brand are those storage "packs" on your walls? I could go for something like that for all the stuff from the boys.

Haven't hit the 30 mark yet, bought my dream house last year. Started with nothing and have worked hard for everything I own. Planning to build a big 3 bay shop in the next few years, but will make what I have work for now.

Realty photos are all I have other then the one time it snowed, won't be seeing that for another 10 years lol.

The auto repair industry has been kind to me. All tools and box are 100% paid for, just a few months left to pay off the lockers.

Guess i qualify for this grqve got our third kiddo on the way, and this set up isnt big enough. We've found our next home, and started plans for the new shop. 30x60 with game room/living quarters above (guess house).

My current garage is a 20x22 oversized one car. dont really have any detailed shots of the garage, but i've done several engine swaps, lift kits, restorations in it already. This shot shows the location of the garage

Really bummed after seeing some of the newer houses you all have purchased. I'm pretty good with saving and spending only when necessary, but still am not even close to getting a place like that.

I feel with you Mr. 360. Some of these newer places shown here would easily coat $750K with $15-20K in taxes/year around NJ, or any metro area of NYC. Even 50 year old fixer uppers would be $500-600K at best with $13K taxes. That is a far cry from the pricing of similar properties I have seen in other parts of the country, unfortunately.

I'm steadily downgrading as I go(!)

Garage when I was 23:
Garage.jpg

3x8m ish brick palace with a little workshop at the back, came with a lovely bungalow, mature gardens and a shed for the garden stuff.
Corrogated steel roof used to ice up on the inside in winter!
But alas, it was rented, so we eventually moved on.

Garage when I was 25:
DSC_0207-1.jpg

2.4x5.5m ish, but this one was integral so sooo toasty and warm :)
The house also had a nice double driveway for the car and van, win.

But alas, once again, rented

Finally bought a place of our own last November, generally done alot of this to the 1800's semi:

While all of that is going on my stuff lives here:
DSC_1529.jpg

(My dad's lockup)

Unfortunately no driveway accessible garage at home, just room for a workshop in the garden:
DSC_1879.jpg

Naturally, under construction, but being built with my own fair hands.
GJ build thread link in my signature, pull up a virtual chair and eat some virtual biscuits.

Will hopefully eventually look a little like this:

I'm 27 at the moment.

Slowly slowly catchy monkey.

Very nice stuff everyone. I'm in my early-ish 20's and after reading this thread feel as if I have wasted 20 years of my life.  I would love to know everyone background and success tips but don't want to pry into their personal lives. Extremely impressive, lots of people in this (our) age group are much worse off. Some due to their own choices, some due to unfortunate circumstances beyond their control.

I hope this all re-formats correctly

Very nice . I like that old red snap on tool box. Story behind that? Belong to a family member or the like? Or just a craigslist/garage sale find? :lol_hitti

Hey guys, I'm 25, got my house a year and a half ago, and this summer started renovating the garage. If you want to read about it, I started a build thread that is linked in my signature, it'll be a slow build though, because most of my money goes to the mortgage, and my dog seems to take the rest. :p Anyways, here's a crappy cell-phone picture of it. As you can see, I like motorcycles. ;)

Im 23, been married for 3 years now. Have 2 little ones, a house thats paid off, a truck thats paid off, and a small car payment. My wife is a stay at home mom, pregnant with our third kiddo. I've worked for 6.5 years as a lumber/contracter sales rep.

Thats the jist of my background. Nicest thing about what i do, means i get employee discount on material. I bought my house 3 years ago at a very good price. I've put up a privacy fence on our double lot, remodeled the basement, as well as the entire up stairs, added a large back deck, as well as a patio/firepit in the back. When i go to sell it next month i stand an opportunity to atleast double my initial investment, in only 3 years.

Hey my names Kane I'm 20 years old. I rent this shop everything there is mine except what is under the loft area in the background... I'm letting my dad use that for storage. I'm into a lot of stuff. That black 72 c10 is a project I got last year, building a 383 for it right now probably gonna put a tremec 6 speed with a ford 9" i got laying around. I also bought a brand new subaru brz a couple months ago (in my moms garage for winter storage right now) I love that car great handler.

I work on a lot of pulling trucks (currently building my own) . Its where you hook 2 4x4 trucks bumper to bumper and have a tug of war. Sounds redneck and pointless. But actually its a lot of work. Start with bare f250 frame build your own suspension to make it hook with both axles. Every part has to be able to handle the stresses. Its the only Motorsport we have in this area and is hugely competitive. http://www.tug-fest.com/

I've worked very hard for everything i have... A couple of years ago i had nothing but a few wrenches. I'm a cnc machinist for a local forklift manufacture. 100% in charge of a twin spindle twin turret lathe form setup to programming. I started there when I was still 17.

Right now I'm working on saving up to build a 70x60 ft shop with 22 ft tall ceilings. 20x60 of that is gonna be a 2 story house. 3 bed 3 bath... A lot of work but it'll all be worth it one day.

Yep I'm a little bit crazy but it'll all pay off one day. Work hard Play harder

Very nice guys, I'm 33, but bought my house back in 2006

so to keep with the rules I'll post a pic of my garage from then.

(bike was the previous owner)

I really really really wish I had coated the floors back then.
