code BIGSAVE gets you 15% off of a $150 order.

Probably not the Black Friday sale you were looking for.

That's pretty predictable since they do the shittier deal on BF each year.

I am hoping/assuming the whole postcard code deal is simply to see how well direct mail response is, and there will be a global code released on Monday. If not, it's pretty disappointing and silly.

I really have to wonder exactly what Zoro is trying to do these days. The marketing seems to be really missing the mark and the pricing seems to be completely unable to compete for the market they are interested in how they're currently doing it.

The biggest issue remains that the site's search is almost completely unusable and worthless. I've dealt with this issue before, and I'd practically guarantee it's a problem that can and should have been resolved in a week or two with a 100% improvement in functionality. If you can't check to see if a site has stuff it's completely stupid to assume that people will adopt using that site when shopping for stuff. Hell, I'd go down to Zoro for free and fix it... I've replaced many a misguided search engine with Sphinx with a 100% success rate and the highest performance you can ask for.

yea, pretty crappy deal. i called zoro yesterday to see why i wasnt getting the postcard and they said for some reason i had opted out of mail and email notifications. i wouldnt have done that and have spent a boatload there this past year. so they added me back in

so you might check to make sure you didnt get in the same situation. i have a grand of stuff in my cart waiting for a 30% coupon. and it will wait for now

Having worked in the search data team at Amazon, once you get to a certain scale data quality issues are non-trivial. Zoro's biggest problem is grouping items, and Amazon had three teams building expert systems and rules for grouping items and scrubbing item data, as well as machine learning engines to find and fix mistakes made by the first pass software.

Zoro has under a million catalog items. Implementing search on such a small scale is not that difficult.

I don't think grouping items nor the "scrubbing item data" is an issue. Grainger already does all this stuff reasonably well, that just needs to be passed to Zoro. And I'm not sure Zoro's grouping is all that bad, nor how many people shop a company like Zoro in that manner.

They should just crowd source the data, really...

Put a button, "think this should be grouped with another item?"

Yeah, its not going to get all the fixes, but the ones that need fixing the most will rise to the top.

Interestingly, today I received two postcards, both for $25 off $125. No 30% postcard... Yet. I hope!

I caved and ordered the Wiha precision screwdriver set I was holding out for from KC Tool with their 20% that expires tonight in case the Zoro 30% doesn't arrive. After tax it's a $12 difference on a $200 set which is pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things.

I hope the rest of you holding out get your postcard. If I get one I will be sure post it for someone else to use.

I to have signed up many times in many ways, only to receive a lame $5 off coupon via email. On the bright side, their website now warns of a "blizzard sale" in the forecast that we are to be ready for... $5000 worth of stuff in my cart is hoping for a shocking return to 40% cyber monday... not likely I know. 30% is good enough to click checkout. Less than that though and I'll have to work pretty hard to overcome an unjustified sense of unfulfilled entitlement to complete my order.

Just a suggestion bud. Keep a copy of your cart with part numbers somewhere else. I've had my cart emptied before as have others here. Nothing ***** more then to rush through rebuilding a list with the clock ticking away.

appreciate the advise. it is indeed backed up. lots of homework went into figuring out what i really have vs. what i thought i had, or used to have. i would hate to try and figure out anything on zoro's website day of. it's hard enough with part numbers.

LXCam,

That would be truly evil since Zoro sent me an email last night trying to whip me into a froth with impending deals - "Cyber Monday Savings" - and there is a blue button on the imagery that says "Stock your cart now".

...but I just printed out the 15 items I had in my cart.

Thanks for the prudent suggestion.

Best regards,

Scott

No email, postcard or calendar. Searching I realize I've received a few 25% offs in the last month or two though. So fingers still crossed for a 30!

NoSloCoupes,

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here.

You didn't get a mailer with code but you got an email for Cyber Monday?

If not, where did the Cyber Monday code come from?

Best regards,

Scott

Huh, that's weird. I wonder why the whole postcard thing then.

Rice Rocket,

I'm not a marketing guy but I suspect there will at least be an analysis of who uses which, the percentage of postcard codes sent out that are actually used, percentage of postcard recipients that used the email code instead & how many use both of these one-use per customer codes.

Best regards,

Scott

CA Tax is charged on the before coupon price.

Feel like I should ask them about this?

The code applied but didn't take anything off the price, I guess I'll be calling them in the morning. Anyone else have this issue?

FSUwelder,

Which code do you mean? Postcard code or BLIZZARDSALE code.

I waited until after midnight central time and the BLIZZARDSALE was then displayed on the website.

What's weird is the postcard code I received would not work. BLIZZARDSALE did.

GA sales tax was applied on the pre-code total.

Scott

Yeah I did. I placed the order anyway thinking it would be applied after but it didn't. Guess it was a glitch in the system as my order was dated the 29th. I replaced the order & the discount showed fine (just in case it sold out or something with my luck) dated the 30th. I'll have to call in the morning too to cancel the duplicate order.
