Social Groups

Everyone on The Garage Journal has the same interest; a passion, a hobby, or even a love/hate relationship with their garage.   However, obviously an interest in garages isn’t the only thing that brings people here.   That’s why one of the more fascinating features on the newly redesigned board is the addition of Social Groups.   If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Social Groups yet, I suggest you give them a look.   It’s great to see people with common interest or from the same geographical area connecting on the board.   From the Virginia Garage Gang, to our pals down under, the Volkswagen Aircooled Group, to the Vintage Tool Collectors, and maybe even a group yet to be formed…

The Social Groups are formed and run by the members so if you have any questions regarding a particular group, you can find who started the group and ask them the specifics.

Perhaps its because I'm still a GJ noob, but I'd like to have a forum subsection that could server to connect forum members (perhaps geographic subsections?). I love working on cars and doing wood working projects, and have always wanted to organize wrenching parties, or the like. Maybe the social groups could be used to that end?

I like that idea; can pool talents/strengths of members....kind of like a barter of skills.

I have to give myself an "F" in carpentry/homebuilding type skills. Dad was pretty good in this area, but somehow it did not stick with me.

I have to give myself a good B+ in auto repair skills, especially electrical and driveability. I went to auto tech school a few years ago, set up a home repair shop on the side with plenty of tools. Also, got my ASEs in 4 areas.

Those are all great ideas and exactly what the Social Group feature is designed for. Instead of the moderators coming up with a thread or section for certain topics, the social groups allow you, the members, to decide what you want to specifically talk about.

Maybe somebody should start a Social Group for woodworkers or carpentry? It's up to you all.
