20250716_091823.jpg

Craftsman Truck under seat Permanex boxes, 17inch and 22 inch wide in nice shape. Always check the latch and hinges!

I always look for those craftsman truck boxes.
Wish they still made them. Of course I’m the minority in that I have a full size, two door pickup

one of the better boxes from last week's auction
all sharpening stones of various make and composition - $35 OTD
some common duplicate things that I don't need, but a few rarities that I do

IMG_2393.JPG

IMG_2394.JPG
mostly arkansas stones here - mostly pocket size for knife sharpening
a couple nice Norton India stones and old razor hones

IMG_2395.JPG

for my purposes the best of the lot here sized for the bench
one near new Norton lily white washita
one near new Norton black translucent arkansas
one larger 8x2x1 hard arkansas (i think??) of unknown origin
these will fill in a few holes in the collection

IMG_2396.JPG

finally a few knife steels of domestic and French manufacture
some other things that didn't make it in time for the group photography - all in all a good haul - on to the next one

FREEBIES from work!!!

Build details in my first post quoted here:

...speaking of which, I have some more free goodies lining up for next week. Steel under-counter drawers (made for lab bench use), only about 10 years old, look almost new (a few pieces may have minor dings).

As usual, they were about to throw them into a dumpster because they're partial pieces, don't think the auction house would deal with them, and want them gone now.

Certainly not Lista-quality, but would work great for under a work bench, drill press, etc. Everything seems to be 2-feet wide, so also quite modular.

(Edit: I looked up the catalog, and found a spec sheet. It appears that these are built from a combination of 18 gauge and 20 gauge steel. They are quite heavy for their size.)

I'll post pics once they're on my trailer.

Mike

Sneak peek of today's haul...

These are laboratory cabinets, designed to be installed under modular lab benches. I got the following pieces, orphaned by the new owners (we're relocating some labs as part of a wider consolidation of buildings in the area):

Four of the 4-drawer units:

20250716_085239~2.jpg

One wider combo unit (cabinet on the left side, 3-drawers on the right side):

20250716_085922~3.jpg

Six 1-drawer units (meant for a "knee-hole" area), two different sizes (need a better pic):

20250716_085300.jpg

Also grabbed a shelf and a random side piece (no pics of those yet).

Not really sure what I'll do with any of these yet, but I was NOT letting them go into a dumpster!!!

Build a lab in your basement or make a unique workbench.

Always nice to save cabinets from the dump.

Last day of a 4-day pro run sale where opening prices are usually pretty high. I was drawn to a bright red box in one of the poor photos. Ended up finding 2 Proto/Fleet boxes marked with the original owner’s name on the face plate. As I understand it, Fleet was used from the mid-1940’s-1960’s? I’m sure you GJ experts can educate me.
IMG_0436.jpeg
IMG_0437.jpeg
IMG_0438.jpeg

Each had some tools inside and included this Craftsman (all USA) haul:
IMG_0439.jpeg

A few Crescent items:
IMG_0440.jpeg

An Indestro set that will go on the wall!
IMG_0441.jpeg

The larger Proto box contained a bunch of Fleet marked sockets and extenders.
IMG_0442.jpeg

And finally, some miscellaneous items including a Channellock 910-C, and SK screwdriver (I think?), a German-made adjustable, and a few other items.

And finally, some miscellaneous items including a Channellock 910-C,

Those are my favorite Vise grips as they are easily used one handed. Properly adjusted (those are -the little slider bit next to the release), they grip really well too!

They look almost unused, and the plastic cap does not look broken either. That bit is the one weak part of those.

Both of the fleet and the Proto boxes are 60’s. Same with the fleet tools. Nice pick ups!

Thanks for the insight. I had never seen them before and they are a cool design. They look like they’ve never been used.

Thanks for the info. They’re in great shape for being 60-ish years old.

Great haul!!!

I have most of those Craftsman tools (and have had them since college). The black-handled channel lock pliers are probably my most-used tool (and yours looks immaculate)!

Been watching this one for a bit. I have a few vintage 1960 Cornwells and decided I needed another. This is the SK-24. This is in really nice shape for it’s age, and the patina matches my TC-65 lower cabinet nicely. Thirty-Five clams brought it home…Looking forward to cleaning it up. Build a lab in your basement or make a unique workbench.

I was waiting for someone to tell me to build a lab in the RV, LOL... I get that kind of joke at work a lot!

I'll be spending a lot of time reorganizing the shed this weekend (WAY overdue); need to make space for these cabinets and drawers, and will probably use the recent rack acquisition.

I wasn't looking for these specifically (and truthfully, I'm really keeping an eye on leftovers from the Facilities shop); but again, no way these were getting scrapped on my watch!

Went to an ES yesterday with SWMBO. It was a packed house in a new area to us. We got there later than we expected and were 51 & 52 in line. Took an hour before we made it in. Had a fair amount of tools, but most were either priced too high or had no interest for me. I did end up with these for a total cost of $21....
IMG_1440r.jpg
The Craftsman 1/4" drive set was $6 with the other five items $3 each. As Otis says, "a little closer now..."
-Proto 1/4" spinner
IMG_1445r.jpg
-Swisstech Multitool and US marked carabiner
IMG_1442r.jpg
-Glardon Vallorbe Swiss file set. It's missing one and hope to find it when we return to the sale tomorrow. IMG_1441r.jpg
-Extendable magnetic pickup tool
IMG_1443r.jpg
-The Flying Saucers Are Real book dating from 1950 for SWMBO, who is obsessed with all things alien...
IMG_1418.JPEG

Tomorrow we go back for 25% off. The house was packed, so who knows what might now be uncovered....

Cool stuff and definitely worth going back. I do like those ratchets, low backdrag, especially with the factory grease removed and an application of a light oil.

I hope you won't be doing any lead climbing with that 'biner! Or, for that matter, anything where your health depends on it.

A dropped 'biner is a dead 'biner.

I keep some around for various small jobs. Really handy when doing a complex wire pull without help--like pulling through an LB or similar.

Yeah, no real serious use planned for it. Usually ends up being used as overkill for a key chain.....LOL.

Not much in the way of Tools and Garage stuff lately. I did go to an estate sale that had quite a bit, but the company running it is usually a bit high on the things they actually price. If it’s not priced, usually it’s a good deal.

Paid around $7 for this vise, cool old brooder thermometer, and an 4” older US made Crescent adjustable wrench not pictured.
IMG_0377.jpegIMG_0378.jpeg

At another little store I stop at every few weeks I found these buttons for $3 total.
IMG_0422.jpeg

Yesterday I stopped in a thrift store that I haven’t been to in a long time. Only thing of interest was a set of 5 Indestro Combination wrenches 18mm - 22mm. I passed on them because they were bundled with some other imported wrenches. Might check in when they change the 50% off color and see if they are still there.

A couple of freebees this week - starting with a freecycle PU last Tuesday: an apparently unused Fenwick Legacy one piece 7-1/2 ft pole. some garage gunk/sheetrock in a couple of spots but I think will clean up fine:

A pain to get pics of, and I've had to change cameras for these kinds of pics; so struggling to get that to behave...

FCC-fenwick-Legacy-a-grip.jpg

FCC-fenwick-Legacy-b-tip.jpg

FCC-fenwick-Legacy-c-markigs-1.jpg

The fore grip spins and is the "nut" that holds the reel on:

FCC-fenwick-Legacy-d-mount.jpg

Specs:

FCC-fenwick-Legacy-e-specs.jpg

I want to give this one a try, but transporting an almost 8 ft rod will be entertaining. For the T-van I'm thinking maybe a full length PVC pipe with a notch for the reel stem, and a cloth sleeve on the rod so the pipe doesn't abrade the rod...

And last night a curb PU - Amazing what people will toss - A folding/portable Ryobi Chop saw stand. Super clean needs some sawdust wiped off but mostly as new. I'm thinking more for something for a heavy duty table/bench for camping, but we will see.

MrsLS & I drove to the Jacktown Steam Show Friday morning and perused the flea market, as exhibiters set up their engines. It still wasn’t in full swing as we left, around noon, but it goes through Sunday. There’s a local community yard sale tomorrow, and Jake’s for Sunday. Maybe I’ll trek over to Leesport FM Wednesday, and the NY90 50mile Yard Sale is in our sights for next weekend.
IMG_6485.jpegFor $21, I brought home a Triangle-era Utica 90-15 adj, a 1939-code Snap-on 1/2dr speeder, a steel AO goggles case with a bunch of hex keys in it, a Merit battery pliers, Bonney-mfd heavy D-sized S-doe, and Bonney 552 doe, Millers Falls No58 eggbeater drill, and a drillbit adapter for bitbrace. The two drills were in the chucks of the last items.
Left-behinds included a 3” Bonney Improved Garage vise (I have one that size), and several other vises (Bonney, Stanley, Parker) I admired. I rooted very thouroughly through thee big bins of C-clamps without producing a single PS&W, though there were several similar “batwing” Sargents.

Another day of frustration with our genius locals.

So, it turns out a very small (8X10) sign stapled to a utility pole with instructions written in 12 pt. scrawl wasn't obscure enough. The new one--just started seeing these in the last month or so--is a giant--3 X 4'--sign with large print... wrapped around a utility pole, so you have to pull over, get out of the rig and walk 180 degrees or more around the pole to read the sign. Brilliant!

One of my favorites had the directions as "about 1 mile out of town". There are three roads in and out of town, and the single sign wasn't even on one of them!

I finally found one utterly waste of time yard sale--with very unfriendly folks running it. I always enjoy my friendly "Howdy!" on entering a sale being returned with a glare.

Traffic was again too insane to even think about visiting any of the adjacent towns. A million tourist per season in a county of seven thousand really messes with the roads... and this weekend is the big Nez Perce powow in Wallowa, as is the all-town yard sale--which I guess I'm going to miss this year.

All y'all: GET OFF MY LAWN!

I believe it to be a Stanley Defiance 1210. I meant to check mine over, but I forgot by the time I got home. I just liked it and it will replace my rather boring Taiwan import I found in the fall.

Like Outlaw said, it should be on the head of the jaw screw. There should also be patent numbers on the inside of table clamp (if it is a Stanley).

I am incorrect on the Definace 1210. A 1210 Swivels. I'll investigate further tonight.
A 1209 looks like the same style vise without the swivel.
