Been almost a month since I’ve updated here, but with the cold and other stuff that needed to be done I haven’t had time to work over here.

Along with the tenant is now staying one more month, so hopefully she’s out this month cause I’m done and the next step is court. We will see.

Either way I’ve been watching for things I wanted for the garage on Facebook marketplace and one of the item is a nice steel bence. Nothing extra, just a place to sit at and tinker on stuff.
Well the wait has paid off and I was able to get this Durham steel bench for $40. Really clean and in good shape. Based on the uline site, this was a $340 bench.

I need to figure out what this is under the bench incase it’s something useful for me.
IMG_1375.jpegIMG_1374.jpeg

I also took the time to cut the sealant at the expansion joints in the bunker. This concrete will benefit from the densifier as the concrete surface was very powdery like limestone when I was cutting the sealant off.

IMG_1377.jpegIMG_1378.jpeg

One cool thing that happened while I was picking up the steel table as I saw this 3d cut out of the Texas State. Apparently the guy had a cnc shop where he cut stuff like this out and he had cut the topographical shape of Texas and other states. Texas was the last big one he had and so I asked if it was for sale and they said just to take it, even gave me the mounting hardware too!
IMG_1379.jpeg

You can see the Guadalupe peak and how tall it is to the rest of the state.
IMG_1380.jpeg

So I now got a cool wall art for the Texas Barn!
Nice score on the Texas and WV steel artwork and the table! Very cool the topo features of the steel. Wonder how he cut that?

Squatter affecting your ability to move?

I should have mentioned the states are made out of a red wood of some sort. He was selling off some lathe and mills machines which I wish I had the room for. He used to do cnc and 3d printing but has gotten out of the business.

As for the tenant, not as much as squatting but yet I guess it is. The rent is paid for this month but she claimed she wasn’t able to find a place to move to yet. There’s other issues going on but we came to an agreement at this time. She also knows I have a lawyer on standby and court is the last thing she wants to do as it goes on her records and will affect her future ability to rent. Just ***** cause I’ve given her plenty of time and notices, but on the other hand she did break her ankle two months ago and she had to have surgery. We also have the understanding and in writing that I am allowed to come in the house and start working in the basement to prepare it for a remodel basically. Along with I can also come inside to measure rooms and determine what materials I need to start getting for the upstairs, so it’s in a good condition to move into.

We will see but I’m hoping for a peaceful outcome as I hate to see the daughter suffer due to her mother’s choices.

I love the TX and WV cutouts. I have always heard that Texas is big, but did not realize how small WV is compared to it. :ROFLMAO:
He had a US cutout and also showed the topograph too, but I was already happy with the two I got. I’ll ask him if it’s not gone when I go back to something else if he wants to let the US go too.

That topo TX is really neat!

Some of those steel benches can have drawers mounted underneath. This looks like it may be a mount point.

Maybe not for this particular table, but something like these?

I suspected either a drawer or maybe a small cabinet can hang in that spot. Now the question is which one would be worth the price? Might be. Question to ask when I start working in the garage.

So the guy I bought the steel table from also had a bench for sale. He had built 4 tool boxes into this bench. When I asked how much I couldn’t refuse.

So here they are loaded up on the trailer.
IMG_1429.jpeg

I also got some metal from him, some the same size as the bench tubing, some I think are 1” square tubing, and some flat stocks.
IMG_1430.jpegIMG_1431.jpeg

I also saw these pieces sitting in a corner and he threw them in the deal.
IMG_1432.jpeg

Here are the toolboxes unloaded and in the garage.
IMG_1433.jpeg
The red one is a harbor freight 42” box but unfortunately it’s only 18” deep, the other 3 toolboxes are 22-24” deep and will work out nicely for organization.
The wall cabinet he also threw in the deal since they matched the three toolboxes.

I now need to get this bench off the trailer. Today would be a good day to own a forklift.
IMG_1434.jpeg

I’m going to recruit some help and also with wheel dolly, furniture dolly, and a jack I should be able to get it in the garage.

I was able to get it all for $550 which I thought was a good deal and would save me some time by not having to built a bench from scratch.

Thanks! Like I said, I couldn’t refuse his deal. Hopefully tomorrow the bench will get off the trailer and I can measure some things. I think I will have to wait til I move back to really get into finishing some of the welds and clean it all up for paint. I was wondering if anyone used those furniture sliders to move their benches? I was thinking it would make it easier to move by myself if I could slide the bench around.

I use a couple HF furniture moving dollies with a piece of plywood to span the legs to move stuff like that bench. Easy for me to load each end by myself and then I can roll it exactly where I want it. YMMV!
Once it’s on the concrete that’s how I will move it. But coming off the trailer onto the garage floor, I’m going to try sliding it off the trailer and have Dollie’s placed under the legs. Also with another person to help, hopefully we will keep it from sliding the wrong way on the trailer.

I got impatient.

When I stopped at the garage with the welder, I kept looking at the bench and thought why not just get it to the edge of the trailer to help reduce the time needed when moving it. Well once I saw the legs were going to land o the concrete at just the right height for the wheel dollies, I thought why not. Next thing I knew I had the bench off the trailer and on the garage floor in 5 mins. It’s heavy but with the dollies help it was easy to move.

Now to get over there and finish welding the joints and then clean up the welds.

That is one heck of a score. Going to really get you setup and moving now.
Thanks! It was a heck of a deal. The guy is moving from Pa to California so he was determined to sell off everything he owned in the garage that was replaceable basically. He was going to take his custom built airplane that he built by hand. The bench should help me a lot on getting the garage organized!

You sure this wasn't customize to your garage and the PO saw you coming? :ROFLMAO:
Never met the guy and he also built the bench 4 or 5 years ago so that’s before the garage was built. But it does seem like fate in some way!

Progress on the bench was made tonight. I got all on the joints on the front welded and ground smooth, and I hit any other joints that wasn’t completely welded but I didn’t grind those cause they are hidden by the toolboxes. I wiped all the surfaces with acetone to get them ready for paint.
IMG_1448.jpeg

Swept the floor some.
IMG_1449.jpeg

Now the question is, do I drag everything over to spray the paint or can I roll the paint with hardner in it and get good results? I’d like to have hardner in the paint to make it more resistant to the bumps and hits.

For tube like that I would roll it personally. Lots of over spray with narrow pieces like that and it shouldn't take long to roll with a narrow roller.
I’m thinking the same thing, guess I just needed to confirm that I can roll it with hardner mixed in. Seems it should be safe to roll the paint with hardner mixed in it.

Nice score Cody. You'll love that corner/90-degree style workbench. I love mine and it's rock solid.
I was wondering what to do about the corner as it was potentially going to be a dead space, but I had ideas. Now it’s confirmed it’s going to be a desk area. Now, what to put in that corner of the bench as it’s deep, 46” deep.

You are right that the deep corner is sometimes less used. I had a small refrigerator that I put in the corner for a while but it crapped out last year. Who knows, it may just be a perfect location for a benchtop ultrasonic cleaner.....

Thought about this too, figured it would be a good spot for the computer.

Cody, I run a small NUK box for a shop computer. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, it doesn't take up much space and has plenty of computing power to surf the web, watch YouTube, and play Spotify.

I've only got a 32" screen however...that's about all that fits above the desk and below the shelf.

That’s smart! That would be ideal to reduce the footprint of computer for sure. Seems some of them has usb ports so I can just keep the service manuals on thumb drives or connect my dvd/cd player for the service manuals on discs.

I went with a vevor, for the dual frequency.
IMG_1452.jpeg

Depending on what you read, customer service seems to be all over the place for both the vevor and creworks. I figured Vevor had a bigger customer base that maybe I’ll be lucky if I need to get any repair parts if needed. But it looks like to me they are all made in the same factory somewhere, just cosmetic differences to me.

🤷🏻‍♂️

I have one that looks just like this, I forget which brand but it ain't Vevor, that I bought off of eBay. Used it a few times then got a letter from eBay stating that the unit has been recalled due to the possibility of electrocution and to contact the overseas manufacturer for a remedy.

Sounds about right.

I did buy the vevor off the vevor website and got a 1 yr warranty through them. I figured the bathtub theory of reliability would be the case with the vevor. If it’s going to fail, it should fail after a good year of use. If it last over a year, i would say it saved me some coins so then I would give another brand a try.

I have that one as well....but will admit it has yet to be used ....what are you planning to fill it with?
