I tried last night to buy them online. When I went to check they said they were unavailable at my store. So I changed stores to the one by my work same bs, but it showed that they had 10 pairs, also it said that my lowes had 6-7 pairs.I tried to check out and it said they were unavailable.

So tonight after work I stoped into lowes nothing on the rack except the tag.hmmm. I look up an what do I see 3 boxes full on the top rack.

Absolute bs. I left the rest on the ground for others. I hate lowes, I used to love them now I want my home depot back.

I hope they purchased them in very high quantity to get this price. Also if this happens with a lot of Knipex products quality could go down or they stop selling to Lowes.

The Knipex packaging actually had a Lowes' Part Number next to the Knipex part number. Lowe's obviously has the purchasing power to make some major demands, hopefully the quality isn't sacrificed for this heck of a deal. I picked up a pair this morning, haven't noticed a difference between my other Knipex Cobra's yet

Got the last set, online said my store had 16 pair. was not marked $29.97, still said $56 or $59, not sure. Did a price check and it came up $29.97, now they are in my box.

I am glad you all let me know that the price dropped again. I bought them for 39 on Dec 4. Just took my receipt in and got $10 back, which I promptly put down on a pair of channellock needle nose.

That 10 bucks got me half of the pliers on the right:

Now I have a decision to make. These Knipex pliers from Lowe's for $29 and change, or a 3-pack of similar-style ChannelLock pliers at OSH for $30 and change. Any recommendations? The ChannelLocks look to be the better deal and are made in the USA; are the Knipex really that much better quality?

Not a thing wrong with the channellock's, just that the knipex are on a much higher level of quality. Not often do you find deals on knipex, but channellock you do. just my 2 cents, happy buying.

How did you test these pliers? These sets are packaged in a bubble pack with cardboard backing.

That's a good question! I didn't test them in depth by removing them from the package, I'm not that bold :). However, I could see a visual difference in the gap of the joint, which indicates there will be side to side play in the jaws. I assume that's just a tolerance issue. I could apply a small amount of pressure to the ends of the pliers in the package and see that the jaws wouldn't be completely overlapped, and since I'm not using a lot of force I think that's somewhat telling. Maybe I'm off my rocker... :eyecrazy:

My observations: the Knipex are smoother and less of a hassle to adjust -- if you're going to use these a lot and not just pick them up for one job every so often, I'd say that makes them worth it. The Knipex jaw design looks more refined, so they may grip things better, but it's oh so tempting to get another larger plier for the same cost... hopefully more opinions will come in. :)

i'd suggest grabbing a hf 20% coupon and heading to lowes and getting the knipex for less than $29 and change ;)

I tried the HF coupon at Home Depot before and they wouldn't bite; don't think I've tried it at Lowe's yet tho. Although I do get a 10% military discount, which at least makes up for the outlandish CA sales tax :shocking:

I have a Home depot before if I told them it's a tool store and your selling tools it a direct competitor. Now if i tried that for windows i'm sure it wouldn't work

At my local Lowe's I asked the cashier if they honor competitor's coupons, and handed her the HF 20% off coupon. The cashier asked where was it from? I said "Harbor Freight". Her facial expression told me that she's never heard of the place. Then reluctantly may be, took 20% off the price of the pliers. I was happy. Never hurt to try.

I used the HF 20% off coupon when I picked up a drill press at HD... I told them the same thing... HF, bricks and mortar tool store just down the road, how could you not consider them a competitor for HD tools?

So I bought a cheap Chinese drill press with a name brand ("Ryobi") vs. cheap Chinese drill press without a name brand ("Central Machinery"), about the same price.

I've been on the lookout for a used USA floor drill press on my local craigslist to upgrade to but haven't found the right one yet. The bench Ryobi is definitely better than a hand drill for some projects, but not really a "proper" drill press IMHO.

I picked up a couple of these sets this afternoon. I have plenty of channellocks (as well as mac and snap-on versions), but no cobras until today. I like them. One of the pairs will go to work with me, and the other will stay in my box here.

where can you get a $10 off 25...?

I was registered for their online Christmas sale the weekend of the 17th -19th.
They emailed participants a coupon for $10 off a $25 or more purchase.

OK,
You guys finally broke me down. I checked stock and went into the store this evening and got them (The Knipex set). I also picked up a few more of Lowes .98 Christmas tool items for my main tool chest, some toilet paper and an 8" Crescent wrench that was on sale for 9.97 (Reg. 14.98).
Had a HF 20% off coupon and smoothly got them to take it on the whole purchase.

I looked over the Knipex and the Irwin/vice grip sets. I went with the Irwin set because I like the action and the design better. Unfortunately the Manager refused the HF coupon saying they didn't consider HF a competitor. I can see the point there.

I have the irwins and the knipex, and the knipex' are better.

However, I do like the irwin design that lets you slide the handle up into position.

I picked a set up last night. Checked online they said they had 4 sets, I get there and only saw one. Checked again tonight and online they say there's 3 sets left. Might have to swing by tomorrow and get one more set if I can find them.

Anybody know how these cobra-head pliers measure up to the original high-leverage Knipex pliers - the ones with smooth jaws? The "action" that moves the jaws looks very different on the ones with the smooth jaws.

ok, either I'm a retard or lowe's website is designed by some retard.

I'm ordering online to pickup at store, here is what I got:

I've checked inventory first so I know they have it in stock, now I'm checking it again, still it says "available, qty 8"

Still marked $56 on the shelf in Huntsville, but rang up as $29. Used a $10 coupon to bring it down to $19 + tax. Paid for it with a $20 gift card, so I was out of pocket a couple bucks. Thanks for the heads up on this deal!

I went back and bought 2 more sets today. I had to run to HD so I stopped by lowes to see what they had left. I bought two and they had two left.

the lowes in vernon hills would have nothing to do with a harbor freight 20% off coupon. according to them, they will price match, or accept competitors coupons for the exact item only.

Can't really say that I blame them, and I'm surprised that so many of you are able to use those coupons.
