A near-death experience can make you miserable or make you smile every day. I like to smile...

lol You guys didn't miss too much. I'm not that photogenic anyway.maybe I'll post one of me in my welding gear one of these days.
Edit: ok, just real quick...
And, missed it again. Geez, give those of us who don't live online a chance, will ya? ;-)
I'm not that comfortable putting my picture up online (for a couple reasons) so this was pushing it for me. Sorry friend.
Just wondering...what tools do you plan on storing in all those drawers?
And now I'm just wondering, why do you ask?
I find that question a little irritating. I can't help but wonder if you'd still be asking me the same question if I were a guy. So to answer your question, the same tools that any guy would be putting in his tool drawers.
Socket sets, wrench sets, ratchet sets and all the other tools I have all over the place.
Just wondering...what tools do you plan on storing in all those drawers?
Reminds me of the line from ******.
"What's in the car?"
"Seats and a steering wheel."
Honestly, what wouldn't she store in them?
Just fininshed reading this thread from start to finish. I have been a member for a while here and I read, but dont post a lot. There is a LOT of stuff to weed through on this site, so I often miss good threads like this one. Let me start by saying that GirlInAgarage, I am impressed. I appreciate your craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the sharing of the thought and processes that go into your projects. I am mostly impressed by your persistance and will to find a way to make things work, and to do so with the minimal amount of tools and cash. My Dad was like that; he could do more with less than anybody I have ever met. That genetic trait did not get passed to me, but I digress... I just wanted to say thanks. I know that you post to get advice, but this thread has done more to inspire me than most anything else on the forum. It takes (me) a lot of time to photo, document and share on an internet forum. I too, am trying to learn sheet metal basics without formal training. Really good information in your posts, drawings and pictures. Thank you again, and please keep up the posts.
By the way, the leatherwork is awsome as well.![]()
Kinda hits home. My daughter studied engineering in college. When she earned her Engineering Masters degree, the first question everyone asked me was "Electrical?" and when I said Mechanical they were all shocked. Her girlie thesis was "Stress Analysis of Titanium Alloys." Growing up around me, she thought being a girl was no more of a handicap than being a guy, especially guys like me who are mathematically challenged.
In usafmora's defense, his (her) question was pretty broad. If you were planning to store power drills or impact wrenches in those drawers, they might be a bit shallow.
Now that human communication has been reduced to 140 characters per utterance, clarity and intent have to be left out. LOL really says it all (actually, I rarely laugh out loud when I'm alone with my computer).
)GirlnAgarage,
The one thing I can say after being on this forum for 5+ years is that most people posting have good intentions, especially in the Gallery section. It seems members treat the build threads as the OP's home turf. And as such, they keep the negativity out of it, unless the OP truly asked for it. (The same can't quite be said for the General sections or the Free Parking areas though - watch out)
A person's question or comment can sometimes be taken many ways, but in the Gallery it's very likely they mean nothing bad by it. And if it's obvious that they do, ignore them - it's not worth getting all worked up about. Honestly, I think most people are just plain curious.
My $.02

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to seeing all the drawers in there.
Do you have heat in your shop? I don't and it makes working out there crazy!
Stay warm![]()

Looks nice, girl. I haven't been onb this thread since my post but truly it was a sincere question. I was just curious about what tools you had but didn't mean anything demeaning by the question.
By the way, I would have asked the same question of anyone who put as much care and thought into such a project.

I think that Lyon is the exact same one that I have. I just mounted mine up under my cabinets. Handy unit.
That whole setup is gonna look awesome when it's done.
I hear ya on the cold. 21° here this morning. I can't seem to pry my **** outta the garage office.
This unit has some paint chips and rust. And her drawers are three different colors. I'd like to paint them up with matching hammered gray (read: tedious!). But would it be a travesty to repaint such a box? My Lyon is the exact same dimensions as yours but it has four levels of drawers for 24 total.
I managed to get some stuff done today in spite of the cold but it's not fun. But......what are ya gonna do when the weather is gonna be about the same for the next week or so (or all winter maybe). I'm not good at just sitting around.
I don't think there would be anything wrong with painting that Lyon. But of course I would say that since I already painted mine hahaha.
You should have a few extras all the time. They are available at any auto parts store, or home supply store.

).Looks great! I've been waiting to see this bench finished--and it was worth the wait. You have inspired me to build my own drawers too (I was going to buy the HF drawer cabinets and build them into a larger storage unit, but now, I think I am going to build my own drawers too).
Great looking bench!

Girl the bench looks great . After looking at your bench pics I found your next project. You need to insulate that door it will keep your garage much warmer . We have been in the 20's to low 40's for a week and my attatched 2 car has yet to drop below 50 and I havent run the big heater at all just the little milkroom heater under the pub table
