I have a couple other brand cantilevers but only the 3 Craftsman...so far...

I'm jealous wrenchguy!!

I'm hoping to save the paint on the tag. U got any tricks to removing the rivets? If i mess it up r they available? Tag that is. thanks 4 any help.

I have never removed a tag from a vise but I assume its the same twist rivets as my dp and lathe though. If you can get a pin punch to the backside of the holes, drive them out from the back. If not, you may end up destroying that tag to remove it. The tags are available, on other machines, tool boxes etc. You may have to find a cheap box to rob one from. I may have an old box I could sacrifice, I'll look around.

Wrench: here is what I think that tag should look like on your vise. I just picked this up for $60 and I am liking the Old Craftsman stuff more and more. I'm not even upset that I paid 2 times what a new one cost in I think the 50's. it's a keeper and trying to find a spot on my bench.

the tag is on there, its a crown top. i'm asking because i may by accident mess it up, plus i don't know how it looks under the paint. did u c the pics on the previous page? is urs a crown top? i can't tell from the pic. thanks.

pretty sure mine is a crown top and can't tell you for sure until tomorrow because that vise is sitting in my shop that I won't be back at until the AM.

I know you'll probably save your tag with your talent so was just giving you a decent example. I have heard many many ways some of these guys have taken paint off of their badges that you may already know. your paint doesn't look as serious as some that have come through ok so wishing you the best in your effort.

I made a resolution to get rid of so,etching each day this year. Today I threw this away, hadn't noticed the crown top. Anyone wants it I will send it, no charge.

Very interesting. That looks like it might have taken you quite a bit of time. Nice work. Have you done that method before? will it be a user or just sit on your shelf or off to find a new home so you can use the funds to buy more tools?

Wow! Love that cabinet. Have you been able to ID it in any particular old Sears catalogs? I'd be interested in finding one or two for my garage and would love more info.

Here's a couple close ups of my Crown Top vise. this one is a keeper that is for certain. Sorry "Oldie" these are the 3.5 inch jaws and not the mysterious Craftsman that you Outlaw and others have yet to find.

Damn I just looked below in the ad that I think is my vise and I paid more for a 60 year old one than they sold for when they were brand new. Still Happy, Happy, Happy though.

I had to keep on qt till i had my chance at it today. I didn't even get a bid in, it went for $1750.00. It was a 12 1/2" x 36" bed, had original manuals and sales receipts 12/65. One receipt was just the lathe cost new $349.99 and weighed 372 lbs.
There was some other receipts but i couldn't cipher out the part numbers or writing. It was like new.
I don't have a lathe and never run one but was going to put it in the basement and learn.
I think family duked it out with it bringing that price.

Add another to the collection, this one definitely won't be leaving it. Happy Birthday to me, my buddy just bought a new house and found this in the attic above the garage. Gave it to me as a birthday gift.



A good bit of local racing history on this box. Hatfield(Hatfield, PA) Dragway closed in 1966, and Vargo (Perkasie, PA) closed in 1969. Atco is still there in NJ (where I usually go to race), and Maple Grove is still there as well. Can not wait to clean and clear coat this one!

Depending the accessories, that may not have been too bad of a price. I don't have anywhere near that invested in mine but wouldn't sell it for twice that either

That's awesome, two of my buddies do photography for gonedragracing.com. Got this box cleaned up so far, still want to clear it to protect the stickers. Vargo and Hatfield were older tracks long gone that were in between Maple Grove and Atco.

And Nine, just a fair warning, if I ever come down to your area, I'm going to try my hardest to bring that planer home.

Just picked this up today for $150. I have an oilless Craftsman already, but it is LOUD! I think I'll try to tie the tanks together to give this one more volume.
It's a twin piston pump (which the guy put fresh Amsoil in for me), and is MUCH more quiet!

I gave it to my dad because he does woodworking projects. If I kept it would just sit in the drawer.

anybody know the best way to use this nice little drill chuck kit? pretty complete and since it's probably 40 years newer than my Cannedy-Otto drill press I doubt i'll keep it.

unless I end up buying a Craftsman drill press because of this thread and Garage Journal.

any information to pass on to me greatly appreciated.
