Nine/ Scimonetti / Strouty /Toolfool,
Hope to see some progress on the table top this week. I think I found some radius corners that might work. As far as the brick goes, that was the warm up. The main patio will be about 10 times that size with a front entry step as well. After that, I'm sure I'll be sick of brick and short on motivation.

1/2 Cup,

Work is fun when you get to work with talented people.

Seems all my spare time is going to the brick project. They are starting to take over my driveway.

I have a fair number that the face has split off. I think this is due to creosote saturation.
They have a cool look to them, and I think I'll be using them as a 'special project'. Most likely the risers on the stairs.

Rivenn, Your place is beginning to look a whole lot like mine with all those bricks.
They are just full of character, luv em.

Regards

I'll love them when they're done:)

My neighbors bought me a wind chime, in memory of Bo the truck dog.

I couldn't find a good place to hang it, so I put together a little arm.

Cut the arcs out with the plasma, and welded some 1/2" rod in between.

Bent up a little hook, a couple of screws to the fence post and done.

Left it raw, so it will rust. I may spray it later, when it gets to a nice patina.

I love it. I have to do something like that for our wind chimes.

Be sure to post it up!

I brought home this piece of marble from a job a few years ago. it was part of the wainscot on the interior of a bank built in 1900.

It's old, dirty, scratched and chipped. I figured I'd go with that.

iZ7w

some of it still had the nice, clean 90 degree corners on the edge. I chipped them up.

The middle of the piece was still fairly good, so I laid out and masked off a diamond shape.

I then used my needle scaler to texture everything except the diamond shape

I like the way the edges turned out.

All cleaned up, and ready for a new base to sit on.

Well, that came out WAY better than I would have thought with a scaler. Now I need a new tool, thanks... :)

I love my needle scalers. Not sure my neighbors feel the same.

The dB app on the iPhone told me 98 decibels.

Well finally after months of testing and government procedures they came to start digging out the contaminated soils from my front yard.

The testing indicated that fuel oil reached down to about 12' below the patio.

24 yds hauled out this morning so far.

Looks like it will go into tomorrow for the backfill and compaction.

I gave this it's own thread under lighting and electrical, but wanted to post it here as well.

This is a company that I've had the good fortune to work with on a couple of projects.

And this is awesome:

We must have crossed paths. I live in Bellingham and used to work with high end builders in the Seattle area. I know Joe from AE and worked with him on a few projects.

I haven't been to Spark to see the new piece, but I was in the ball of the Mega-Zapper once a couple of years ago.

TLC,

I haven't been to Spark yet either. Been wanting to make it up there since I 1st heard of it. Even more now that I want to see Joe's piece there.

The excavator maxed out it's digging depth, and the dirt was still coming up stinky.
Will have a larger unit here tomorrow to finish up, then back fill with the CAD trucks.

There will be some concrete patio to demo, then it's onto setting bricks!

The soils test didn't come back in time to backfill on Friday, and won't happen til Monday.

That means I get the weekend free!

Today was a perfect day out on the water in Puget Sound, made even better by catching our limit of crab.

Sun, wind, salt and waves followed by a huge crab feast is hard to beat.

I like the Hanger for the Chimes.
Ace hardware has a set with tubes that are about 6 feet long and 4" in diameter. It's huge and they have it priced at 1100.00

I went crabbing in the back bays of Long Beach Island NJ, the crabs aren't anywhere near as big but I had a great time catching them, I just scooped them up with a net, didn't even have to use bait, I just snuck up on them.

Were they Blue crabs?

I do like a Maryland soft shell crab sandwich when I get the chance.

It's been fun watching the crab fishermen this year- I can see hundreds of pots from my deck, it's been non-stop action, from dusk to dawn. My neighbor and his grandson pulled up 25 big Dungeness yesterday, could only keep 10...

I'm hoping to find someone who gets their fill of crab and drops the extras by. I'm one of the few non-boat guys around here.

Puget,
We had to throw a bunch back after we limited. The season usually starts like that, then they dwindle off. Next week all you catch is small females.

Tool,
An islander without a boat?

1/2,
It was a great spread, and more this afternoon. We are headed down to Hood Canal for another crab feed. It's too bad the Red Tide has shut down the oysters right now. Should be another beautiful day!

Yeah. I was an east coast islander (Long Island) without a boat, now a west coast islander without a boat. There are so many cars I'd like to own before I spend money on a boat.
Enjoy these great days on the water.

Have a great 4th! The crabs looked pretty tasty. I am stuck at the shop getting ready for a work trip next week. :(

The concrete seemed to firm up enough that I decided to pull the rest of the forms.

I was hoping for a split of about 15% exposed rock pockets and 85% rough sawn wood grain pattern.

I got just about the opposite. I knew that I should have waited for some diesel to put on the forms, the WD40 just didn't do it.

Oh well, it's a live with at this point.

I will wait for a few more days before I remove the PVC pipe, so my center hole will be the correct diameter for the bearing pivot point.

Still need to find a TV mount, and figure out the top end too.

As it sits tonight:

I think I see my stove project's great grandfather in the background! :D

Are those compressor tanks? Someone needs to start a build thread if there isn't one!

Finally!!!!!!

I originally contacted the oil tank remediation company back in December.

It's been a long process.

After not showing up yesterday, they came in early this morning and finished the backfill/compaction.

The only thing left is for them to submit a report to the State, then I'll get a "No further action required" on my title.

Now, my work starts:sad:

I have some more concrete to jack up, then prep the base for the pavers, and start setting bricks.

With work getting busy on a new project and it being fishing season, it may be a long while before this project gets done.

Sorry if the whole crab thing bores you, the season doesn't last very long.

Those crabs look awesome! Noting like that in Atlanta.

Hey, I do have a question for you. I couple years ago I picked up this scissor table with the plan on putting a more appropriate top on it. On the sides of the table it has painted "SPOT WELD DEPT". I am not getting to a point that I either want to put a top on and use it or sell it. Currently the top is about 30" X 42" but can go bigger. Smaller would not work.

There have been two main ideas that I have had. One is to put a thick wooden top that is maybe 2"-3" thick and then age it to look like it had spent its life in a metal fab shop. The other is what you had done with the zinc top.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott

Tool,

Just for future reference, what end of the island are you on?

Scott,

Sounds like a fun project. Feel free to post a pic or two.

Scott,

I'd love to have an adjustable height table like that.

Worth the time to put on a cool top.

What you have there would work fine. Is it glued up?

Some creative distressing to add some "Patina" and it would shine.

I got stuck doing some night shift work, so I had today to mess around with the marble diamond top.

Made up a little stand out of 1" angle, then added some expanded material.
Maybe finish it up tomorrow.

Thinking I'll add a wood shelf to it as well.

The top on there is screwed in from the bottom. I had thought about getting something a little thicker and then working it from there. Not really sure just yet but that is what I was thinking.

Thanks,
Scott

PS - my daughter is moving to Atlanta this week to finish up her last two years of college here. Glad to have her closer.
