Even though we currently have two great young dogs, this thread makes me miss Yukon, who we lost almost three years ago.

An update. Gracie passed in the night. Curled up in her usual spot in the bed.
She's lying in state there now. As soon as it's light I'll fire up the Dingo, swap buckets and dig a hole out under Lucifer, where our other fuzzy kids are buried.
If any of you are up at dawn. Pause and think a happy, warm, fuzzy thought for a strong willed, wonderful little girl who is headed out into the great unknowable.

I'm sorry for your loss, Kay. Sounds like you have Gracie a wonderful life.

It's been about 6 month since my Bo the truck dog passed.

But over the Christmas break, I got to dog sit these wild boys.

just over a year old brothers. Nice to have some dog slobber in my life again.

Think I need another dog.

Shortly after Christmas is a good time to check out the shelters for your newest companion. Lots of dogs that were Christmas gifts, but too much for the uninformed families to handle. You are welcome to stop by for some slobber therapy any time, my two maniacs have plenty.

A Border Terrier. Pure bred but it's hard to believe. They say it is the oldest of all the terriers.

They say it's hypoallergenic like a Wire Fox. Do you have to clip his/her hair or does s/he shed? My wire foxes leave no hair anywhere. Except in the shopvac when I trim them.

I'm thinking of adopting myself a garage buddy. Put in an application on a Shepard mix that is sweet as can be but taking a while to warm up to me. I think a few more visits will help. Only downside is he sheds a dog a day. Lol

This is Rolene. She is a Black-mouth Cur, which are related to Mastiffs. She weighs 70 pounds. She is the best big dog I've ever had! She is a rescue dog. Her previous family had their house wiped out by the May '14 Moore, OK tornado. The places they found to rent would not allow dogs. We got her through the local Boxer rescue. She came into our lives just six weeks after my wonderful little Papi-Chi named Gigi was crushed in a horrible garage door accident - she was too short to trip the beam to stop the door. Honestly, I did not expect to get another dog for many months, but there she was! Couldn't pass this cutey up! She's smart, a great watch dog, and she loves car rides! She also yodels, versus howls! Funny as hell!

They are "stripped" by hand. My wife spends a whole day about three times a year pulling hair out (not her own, the dogs hair). They are red underneath.

This is what they look like about a month before a stripping.

Add me to the list of people that lost fur buddies over the holidays. Max, (Islander's Gunner's Mate Maximillian) our 18 year old Platinum Mink Tonk, was put to eternal rest on Wednesday last. He had been slowly dying of old age for the last week or so, but we'd hoped he would make it through the holidays, as he was in no pain, still jumping up onto mommy's lap to be covered, but had lost interest in eating anything at all. The day I took him in, he was starting to stumble out of weakness, and we could bear it no longer. I held him as he was put down-something I swore I'd never do again, but after 18 years felt he deserved to have a loving friend with him. It still hurts and the other cats are still looking for him, and their pleading eyes are constant reminders of our pain. To those in the same shape, I am truly sorry for your losses, and yes I know exactly what you are going through. Max now rests beside his brother who preceded him in death 5 years ago. Goodbye, Max, my old buddy, we love you.

Stevie,
I'm terribly sorry to hear of the passing of Max. Having just lost my best buddy, Sooner, two weeks ago I know exactly what you're likely feeling.

On one hand it gets better - I'm not in tears about my big boy the last few days - but on the other I miss him terribly. He was a big dog and any time I would put my hand to my side his warm, fuzzy head was there to be patted. I'm sure there's some of the same missed connections with your Max.

I send along my best wishes in dealing with Max's passing. Wherever he and my Sooner Boy are, if they can see us, perceive us, they wish us nothing but the best. I'm absolutely convinced of it!
