This Wedge Bar is no longer Made in the USA,

Look how Sneaky Craftsman tried to be, lol

IMG_0342_zpson5vueey.jpg

The bar is not even smooth, cheap metal? Distributed in United States by Sears...

What does the A-AE abbreviation stand for?

Yesterday, I drove around town in honor of Craftsman. First stop was Sears, to check out what other items were USA-made. Sadly, all sockets and ratchets were made in China, and they felt absolutely cheap. Whereas, all garden hoses, brooms, pry bars, punch / chisel / alignment bars / smaller automotive tools (seal pullers, etc.), Aluminum Levels, Hammers, Screwdrivers, Adjustable Wrenches, Nut Drivers (varies from store to store, check the 12-piece sets) and Pliers were Made in the USA. Not to be confused with the Evolv Line. Pretty soon Evolv line will take over the original Craftsman all together. You can thank, Western Forge, Mayhew, Vaughan, Empire, and Lisle, for keeping some of these tools manufactured in the states.

Other wise, its about to come to an end when their contracts are up.

I visited Ace Hardware, the stock was relatively same when compared to Sears Retail Stores. The only exception were New Old Stock Sockets. I was pleased to see "some" socket sets Made in the USA (Impact Sockets and regular Chrome-finished Sockets); but sold for hyper-inflated prices, felt like price gouging to me. However, all the wrenches were Made in China.

I then visited a Sears Outlet nearby, and the atmosphere was very airy. Not much in the Hand Tools section, all piled up in the corner (exaggerated), and not cheap, similar pricing to Ace Hardware.

It was truly a depressing experience. The pricing difference between Craftsman and OEM is very minimal in my experience. This is where Amazon, Home Depot, eBay, and Lowes all save the day. :)

I'll be returning $30 in Sears products later this week and calling my Craftsman tools shopping, done.

If you have any further inclination for shopping at Sears, be sure to use Shop Your Way points (membership is free) and eBates!

If you're a Discover Card member, tack on additional 5% percent Cash Back.

Your first 90 days of Shop Your Way MAX entitles you to free shipping. Lots of items can be shipped to you free (including Knipex, Channellock, Wiha, etc) irrespective of minimum ordering costs. I've received many items through free shipping even when they were priced below the $30 minimum requirement. Spend your points wisely, and be sure to use them by the expiration date.

Sears chat is your friend. Be kind to them, they will be kind to you.

doesn't it say "Made In China" right about "Distributed by Sears in USA"? Everything I looked at yesterday that was made in China said that. No clue what AE means, I was trying to figure that out too.

Never-mind it clearly said Made in China, under the Zip Tie
Now that's odd, lol

I was thinking Chile or Chad (pun intended)

Have to agree :lol_hitti
Time to stop bashing on Craftsman. Lets accept change and move on. What's the next company to pick on? Armstrong? :D

Its inevitable. Companies have their own interest; customers on the hand, have their own interest = win-win. :willy_nil

I did the same thing Saturday night and in the morning everything was jacked up except the socks.

Maybe they see want you want , they raise them to drive away sales

Trying reach reach the $50 point ti use points ,etc
You should not be surprised to see discounts disappear on a Sunday morning. Many retailers run sales from Sunday to Saturday (one week), and saving items in your cart will not carry the discount over to the new week.

does sears have a customer service chat, or do i gotta call Indonesia again?
Type in anything, and click Ask:

I think they're in the Philippines, and have probably never shopped at Sears or Kmart.

So the punch/chisel set is USA, but it does NOT come with a prybar as pictured.
I wonder if you can get a partial refund for that missing pry bar?

Also, the wood chisels went China last year, but have not seen any complaints about cold chisels or punches.

Have to agree :lol_hitti

Good grief, your 4 posts for this one wedge bar:

"COO info was no where to be found"

to

"Distributed in United States by Sears"

to

"Never-mind it clearly said Made in China"

to

"I was thinking Chile or Chad".

You're killing me. :lol_hitti

BTW, did you submit a customer review that warns others about the new COO? For example, the screw extractor set you purchased has warnings about the China COO going far back as 2012.

And for A-AE, try here:

dunno, i'm not worried about it though. Comes with 2 chisels, 2 nail punches, I think 2 pointy punches (center punches?), and 6 flat tip punches. Made by Western Forge. They seem pretty nice.

Lol,

Some of the reviews suggested it was Made in USA. Even the picture looked new to believe that perhaps it was still Made in USA with Patent Pending :(

Never wrote a review on Sears, may be I should, and that includes the Wedge bar too. Unfortunately, as per the link you provided, I couldn't find any info on A-AE. The closest I could find was Stanley, Taiwan, but that's purely speculation.

Thanks :)

Another phone call to make

having to make 1000 phone calls to sears is why i quit shopping there. every transaction would require a call to corporate or sywr. once i factored in the time wasted i said enough is enough

It's been discussed on here several times. IIRC, the first letter is the OEM code, and the second and third letters are a date code.

So I actually l had a positive interaction with Sears!

I placed an order yesterday for the 3 piece pry bar set that's been on sale for $19.99 for in store pick-up. Well last night, the store called and said the item was not in stock, but they would upgrade it to the Craftsman Professional set or have the correct set delivered to the my house free of charge. I took advantage of the upgrade and now I have a better set that I paid nothing for by burning some points. I also order the 4 piece pick set that was on sale and it was USA made along with a 1/2" drive 1 1/16" deep well that was USA made.

Not a bad haul for an out the door price of $2.14. I think that will make up for the lost in transit 15" adjustable.

I take it you use the mobile site? Make sure to occasionally visit the Sears desktop site for more info, because that offer has been on the homepage since Sunday.

Or the weekly circular in the Sunday newspaper.

Placed a few $50+ orders, one on my SYWR account and one the other on my wife's account. Didn't see the earn $10 back in points at checkout.
Did this happen to anyone else?

Yeah, the bonus is not appearing as normal in the cart. Just make sure to check for the extra $10 on 3/26, and be ready for a call to Shop Your Way.

i stopped by the Chicago Ridge, IL store today and found this set for 99.99.

http://www.sears.com/gearwrench-32p...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

not sure why it is not on sale on the website.
Actually, it sometimes appears on the website for $79.99. I'm sure it will be back.

Anyone got at least 3,000 reward points to burn?

Craftsman Club members can pay with $3 in points, and then get $3 back in points:

Craftsman 13 in. & 18 in. Tool Bag Combo $9.99

Don't pay completely with points. Have to pay at least something with your own money to get the $3 reward bonus.

If you are placing any order $50 and up, definitely consider using the $20 off $70 or more Surprise Points.

This is very tempting!

Usuall price is $119, on sale for $47!
Craftsman 20 Piece Ratcheting Wrench Set Inch/Metric

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-20-piece-ratcheting-wrench-set-inch-metric/p-00946820000P?sid=IAx20050830x000545&aff=Y&PID=4485850&AID=11044874
Looks tempting, I would hesitate at the notation "reconditioned". Where did the come up with enough reconditioned sets that they can advertise them? And as I scroll through the store lists, prices vary all over the place, and each store has just 1 set. Something smells.

where are you seeing reconditioned? maybe just in your area?

I'm not seeing anything that says reconditioned on the page. $47.83

the craftsman and gearwrench sets both have the same sizes. Neither one comes with a 19mm. I picked up the gearwrench set last week.

Mentions 3/4" in the descriptions. What size did you get instead of that stated size?

Different members get different types of surprise points, so not everyone has a $20 surprise. Some people even complain they stopped getting surprise points after a while.

not surprised. guess i spent to much at sears last year.

For almost being a VIP platinum member. you think they would take care of me

The Loggerhead Bionic wrench (US Made) was on clearance at my local store... I think it was around $7.50... too gimmicky for me though.
