Sears has Gladiator shelves (consumer grade pallet style racks) for $150 - 77" wide x 24" deep x 72" tall. Only a decent deal if you pick up at store, shipping is $70.

These are nice shelves, I did buy one about a year ago. However, I've since noticed Costco and other retailers sell a nearly identical Edsel unit that is made in the USA for less $.

I got my (11 piece? 12 piece?) USA nut driver set about 3 months ago on clearance at KMart. Nice set, but they're small.. I think they only go up to 11mm and 7/16?? Cant even remember what I paid, think it was $15.

edit: actually I think it was this 14 piece set:
http://www.kmart.com/craftsman-14-p...0934070000P?prdNo=14&blockNo=14&blockType=G14
edit2: nvm, it was a 12 piece set, just looked at a picture of the zipper case that I sold.

You sold the case? What did you get for it and where did you sell it? Just curious.

In all honesty, $50 is a stretch for those things. They're only useful for ocassional/lightweight homeowner use

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they have held up well for me, in more than "light" use. $80 is a great price for those, and not everyone needs the "best of the best" for everything. All tool box usage is "light" and it's usually not worth the premium for ball bearing slides, etc. It's OK to be a "tool snob", I just prefer to be a bit more pragmatic and spend my money more where it matters.

I would have to disagree! The reason most people buy ball bearing slide boxes is bc like good tools they will last a lifetime! If you are looking for cheap storage stanley has a box made similar for around 50 bucks and hf has one twice the size for around 50 more when they are on sale. So IMO 80 is high for the box!

IMO there is just too many better choices out there for just a little more than this $80 product. Way too small and way too weak. Makes the larger ball-bearing offerings from Husky and Craftsman look extremely robust in comparison. Any avid diyer would quickly outgrow this $80 box.

Sears is dead to me. Sears hardware doesn't take craftsman club coupons? Does the tool say craftsman, does the bag and receipt say Sears? Confused...

Not to mention every time I buy something my syw coupons never show up. And, every tool I needed today was made in China. I mean damn, I wanted to help out the seemingly last USA made chain store but at this point I couldn't care less.

Rant over.

They do - did you have an issue?

Are you ordering online? What issue are you having with SYWR couponse? Trying to use online only coupons in-store maybe? Many coupons are in-store or online only, different coupons for each.

Country of origin is not a good indicator of quality - lot of junk made in the US, and a lot of good tools in the far East, as well as vice versa. Have to look at the individual tool to determine quality.

Several papers out there explaining why outsourcing of manufacturing benefits US workers and economy, if you are interested.

What price range should I be looking for on Craigslist?
Harbor Freight has Tool Carts in the $60-$80 range, but not multi-drawer tool chests.
I understand paying a little extra is added insurance.

Is this the Stanley Tool Chest you're talking about?

Thanks for the advice. :)
IDK if you were mostly talking to the other member,
But If I could go back in time, (well, lol, I would do a lot of things different.......LOL)
But let me go back about a year, or so. I would have kept my Craftsman Bottom Chest, circa 1985, with a Husky top box I brought, Circa 1915, (it was the full 18" deep)
I sold it for $300.00, and I would like to still have it,
The bottom was all drawers, Not the (IMO) goofy Bin.
Anyways, Right now, If I was to buy something, I would ger the one that is about 26" wide, has the top and Bottom, It was as low as $300.00 on sale @ one time, But I think $329.00 is as good as it gets.
$379 N0w, but it goes on sale.

Well, looks like I can't go cheap after-all, thanks for the suggestion.

Back on topic, anything else on sale at Sears?

Such hostility. Wow. Glad yours works for you. I paid about $25 for mine, and probably wouldn't do it again. As for being a "tool snob" and needing the "best of the best", I've got a bank of Husky boxes. They're far from the best, yet I'm perfectly happy with them. Maybe try to focus more on answering one man's question, rather than trying to discredit another man's answer. Is all tool box usage light, or is your usage more than light?

Thanks, but just to make sure, this is not to be confused with the Homeowner Tool Center, which is really subpar.

At least this one has the ball-bearing mechanism. Do you think its worth a try? What's the next cheapest alternative in respect to US General?

Thanks again
I'd really give the Husky line a good look. Great value there, especially if you can find them on clearance. Between my Huskies and Craftsmans (from Evo to Ball Bearing), the Huskies were definitely the better buys.

So far this year all the Sears stores by me have not had much on sale. Well, corporate must have let the flood gates open. Today all the stores by me have red tags everywhere. The loose stock sockets are covered with tags and all this year previously there have been none. Still though, I didn't see anything that stood out as a really good deal. Except the Leatherman Wave, they have that marked down to $66 which seems to be an alright deal after a quick check online. The home depot's by me have the wingman marked down to $22

No K-marts left around me, the closest is about 25 miles away. I went there about a month ago after K-mart craftsman clearance thread, they had very few Craftsman tools and no deals.

I don't use nut drivers very often, usually taking apart dashboards and interior trim. I have an old VACO SAE set, just needed a metric set to round out my tool selection..

Thank you. I will have to see "if" any of them are available in the clearance section. Every Home Depot I've been to thus far, never seems to have these chests on clearance, unless I'm not looking close enough.

I'll really have to broaden my search it seems, I can always stack a middle chest (heavy duty) on this Craftsman in the future as long as the casters don't give way, :bounce: The depth is the same on both standard and heavy ball bearing. 12" depth is not much real estate, but its a start as far as "proper-etiquette" organization is concerned.

Aren't the casters replaceable? It would seem impractical to invest over $50-$80 in heavy duty casters. Seems to be difficult to opt with the cheaper route now, lol. 237 reviews can't be all hype, right? I don't intend to roll around with the Craftsman Tool Chest, which is why its good to have a cheap rolling cart from Harbor Freight. :3gears:

Replacing the junk casters on a junk box is throwing money away. The junk box will still have thin flimsy sheetmetal. It will still have no support on the bottom for real casters.

If you are really cash strapped buy just a base now and add a top chest later.

That one at home depot is 300% better than the $99 Sears unit for only 50% more. Its not a snap on, but you will be happy with it.

I'd be interesting in reading that.. it would be interesting how the loss of manufacturing would actually increase jobs in any way. And you have people like me that only buy american made when possible, and they've lost me as a customer. And there's alot of us, ultimately decreasing sales and jobs.

Yea they wouldn't take them, said they were a different division of sears or something,

Sears Hardware is franchise (just like Hometown and the like). It's up to the owners whether they want to take repairs to ship out or take warranty product (mowers, tools, etc).

It's annoying when people come to our store from further out locations complaining that they had to come here rather than their own "Sears" (Hometowns mainly) to get warranty on their mowers and the like. The owners don't tell them when they sell them the item.

Them's the joys of retail.

My 3/4" set shipped to my house in 2 days and was from China. Even though I ordered online it shipped from a store here locally instead of from the warehouse. I called customer service and told them I had ordered online because it clearly shows USA on the label, the lady said they would send me a return label and she was supposed to check with the warehouse on sending a US set. I received the label and the message said I would be issued a refund once my return was received. I called again and explained the situation to a different lady and she said there was a note to give me 10% off and she assured me it would come from the warehouse and at my request she put a comment to only send a USA made set. I'm not holding my breath.

Don't even bother fighting it i have been down that road with a lot of other craftsman tools that were suppose to be usa made. The sears agents will promise you you will get a usa made set but there promises are worthless.

Usually the warehouses first get the product, then the stores.

If you are not aware, some of the Sears hardware stores are franchises or concessions, and may not follow policy. A mainline Sears store should have accepted the return or exchange.

6-Piece Craftsman Extreme Grip Diamond Tip Screwdriver Set (COO: China)
$15.99 w/ coupon code TOOLOFF2
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-pi...0050830x000545&aff=Y&PID=1225267&AID=11044874

boooo I just picked those up yesterday for $19.99 along with a 4pc spark plug socket set. both made in China. between points/coupons, cost me $13, AND got $10 back in bonus points.

Not really thrilled about getting more Chinese tools, but these screwdrivers look pretty rugged. We'll see how well they hold up.

I really like the screwdrivers. They seem to fit fasteners really well. The handles aren't the most comfortable, but allow you to get some decent torque when loosening things with the P3 driver.
