Hit the jackpot yesterday, got a set of Mitutoyo Precision tool kit for $100 down from $200 after some negotiations :bounce:. A little surface rush on the combination square set, but it doesn't bother me.

Are those clear lenses plastic or glass ?
May not be shatterproof. You might want to find safer lenses to fit the goggles.

I'm planning a business trip to Utah that will give me the afternoon of Friday the 13th to kill in Salt Lake City/Ogden, Utah. Apparently Mormons don't have estate sales, or they don't die, because I couldn't run up any from the usual sources. Craigslist is also pretty barren this far out. Does anyone have any leads or advice on finding tools for sale in that part of the country?

I actually held a Garage Sale on Saturday and sold off some minor stuff.

I hit a FM this AM with the LOML and found a Bonney V704 1/4" ratchet for a few dollars.

Here it is pictured on the right with the rest of the 1/4" family from my toolbox. A prior owner filed/ground the flats on the direction selector - it was originally a round knurled circle.

Cheers

Jim

On our garage sale route, went by the ReStore and grabbed a few Grey DOE wrenches, and drill bits, set me back $11.

Then Sunday, grabbed the pipe vise for $10. Unfortunately, the base is slightly bent, and has a small crack, but can't justify a complaint for the price.

Hello GJ friends. I need some help from my fellow garage sale hunters.

Due to a recent loss of a senior family member, we are planning an estate sale to raise money for the surviving spouse's care in an assisted care living facility. Since my wife and I have spent so many years BUYING at estate sales, etc, and selling at flea markets, we were asked to help price things. Of course, I was given the task of pricing tools and garage equipment.

I already made a post on this on Garage Journal under the Vintage tools section, so I don't want to repeat all that here. But a couple items I must price are not really that old. So now I am asking you expert garage sale folks to help me price a couple of items.

First up is a Craftsman air compressor. It seems to work fine. But I've had my own big air compressors for so long, I have no idea what the market might be like for used 3.5 hp compressor on wheels like this. Any ideas, gang?

Next I found an older SKIL brand soldering iron. It looks almost new, still inside its plastic case, which was stored inside the original cardboard box. It seems heavy, so I assume it is a high quality unit. Instructions and extra tips are with it. I have NO idea what it might be worth, yet I feel responsible to get a fair price out of it, for the benefit of my family.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance. (sorry about the fuzzy photo).

If you guys want to see some of the other items, you can go check them out at the Vintage Tool Discussion forum. And in a few days I'll have more photos of more items to show you. Thanks again, all.

Lump, you might look at completed Eprey auctions for the smaller stuff and consider placing smaller easily shipped items there. Much as I dislike selling there personally, with the huge audience Eprey gets, Its really the place to maximize, sale profit.

ps: Look at what can be placed in the flat rate boxes also, as that is often the cheapest way to ship and if you can keep the shipping realistic, the sales prices can climb higher.

Grabbed a few things this weekend, but this was the best score. 7 full oxygen bottles and one half full bottle. Guy said make an offer and I came back with $5 for 2 bottles. He then said for $5 I could have them all!
I use these on my little oxy/mapp torch since the disposable oxygen cylinders are quite expensive and dont last long at all. Probably going to look into an adapter to hook said torch to a 20lb LP grill tank so I can ditch the disposable mapp cylinders as well.

Also grabbed a 5 gallon eagle gas can. Looks worn on the outside but the inside is clean with the exception of a bit of varnishy gas residue.

Wow, the suckage is strong this week.

Flea market today, picked up a few items. I was most excited about the Snap On screwdriver, got in thrown in on a non-tool purchase. In the left is a small stack of sawzall blades and two USA spade bits. Pipe wrenches are west Germany, but for .50 each I picked them up. Chain wrench is OTC. DOE is Herbrand.

Also got a bunch of Pyrex for $3, and a whirlpool hot/ cold water dispenser for $20 no pictures though.

Thanks, Outlaw, and all you guys.

This estate belongs to my wife's cousins. They already decided to sell it all themselves, and I'm just trying to identify and price the tools and other "man junk." There really isn't that much stuff here, but I'll take some photos and post them for my GJ buddies, once everything is set up.

You guys are the best!

Picking up this Kennedy machinist tool box for $35 tomorrow. Looks it pretty good shape too. It is going to go great next to my two smaller Kennedy boxes i picked up earlier this year. This box is probably mostly going to be for show since i am not a machinist but for $35 i think i am doing pretty good.

That's an understatement! Check out post #1035 here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2512802
to see what some of us go through to get these boxes. I still haven't even seen another one in my area for sale yet.

I just got back from getting it and it is in pretty good shape. Just a couple dings on the corners and a little surface rust on the bottom. He told me he had 5 calls by the time i got there so i guess i lucked out making the deal last night. I didn't think it was a steal tho because they sell for around $75 to $100 with shipping on ebay but for $35 locally it was a great deal.

I guess it is because i don't really need it since i don't have machinist tools. But for $35 dollars i couldn't pass it up. So i will clean it up a little and maybe but my drill bits and such in it.
