equipto cabinets

I got two equipto cabinets. 9 drawers. 60 inches tall x 30 inches wide x 28 inches deep. $130/each.

These things are HEAVY.

I've wanted lista/vidmar cabinets for a while now, but these will do just fine.

You guys **** on that cool old oak desk and equipto cabinets!!

Jacobs 14N Superchuck ($1), CM 3/8" Stainless ($5) and 1/4" "Star Trek" ratchet ($3). Is the unofficial nickname for these Star Trek or Butterfly ratchets?

P1060703.jpg

A couple vintage motors and a wood trouble light. ($1/ea)

500 watt like new Honda Generator ($50)

P1060705.jpg

20+ lbs of sinker lead, ladle, melting pot and gallon of Acetone. ($6)

The official name for the selector is "Butterfly" (as seen in the literature for the rebuild kits). The nickname "Flying V", or just "V", came after. The TV show came out 2-3 years after the ratchet was out of production. The nickname "Star Trek ratchet" is a more recent phenomenon.

Slim pickings this morning. 7 stops and a flea market today.
My first stop was the best. I spent almost an hour digging through the piles, setting my schedule off. There was a Matco top box and a Craftsman red/black bottom box they wanted way too much for, but there was still a lot to paw through.

The third stop was hard because they had a 1941 Cman/Atlas 101.03622 DP w/slow speed pulley (my favorite) for only $75. It was complete and functional, but in rough shape. This is the same model that I already have sitting on my bench, so I left it behind. The other stops, including the flea, were nearly useless and one was completely MIA. No-one home. REALLY ?? :wtf:

All but 3 pieces of the haul were from the first stop.

Total all stops - $20
- Marlboro plastic shopping basket
- Rubber wheel chock (to pair with the one from a few weeks ago)
- Craftsman (Crowntop) #9_52113 NC rethreading tap set
- Craftsman (Crowntop) #9_52114 NF rethreading tap set
- Herbrand #85 DOE 9/32"-5/16" ignition wrench
- SnapOn OEX-160 1/2" short combo wrench
- Craftsman 19mm combo wrench (=V=)
- Sidewinder (DAV Tool, Eldridge, Iowa) 3/8dr roto-ratchet
- SK #40854 1/2dr 1-1/16" deep socket
- Matco 3/8dr extension tray
- - - w/ no-name 3" ext.
- - - w/ Matco B6E 6" ext.
- - - w/ Matco B8E 8" ext.
- - - w/ Matco B12E 12" ext.
- Lg hammer handle

The Cman pouches still have the plugs in the hanger holes intact.
There was no way I was leaving the Sidewinder behind. It's just too wonderfully odd.

Here's a closer look at the Sidewinder (Pat. Pending)
The knurled handle spins on the shaft, making this a speed ratchet.

Looks like everybody is getting deals. $50 for tote. As soon as I saw the Snapon extensions, breaker bars and Mac sockets I grabbed it. There was a Snapon transmission seal puller and installer as well as a Snapon puller set. A Matco Pittman arm puller was in the maroon box.

A couple vintage motors and a wood trouble light.
What's the marking on that wood trouble light, Dave?

I don't know how common these are...

...and the outside of the box is in tatters.

But it was just too complete with decals intact to leave behind.

Between the auger bit set on Friday, and these lathe chisels and the midget box wrench set today, it’s been a Craftsman weekend so for me – and I am not really a Craftsman collector. In fact, I usually ignore vinyl/plastic pouches, and I especially ignore chrome!

EDIT: BTW, the marking on the shanks is the geometric C underline Craftsman logo, matching the logo on the felt lining under the lid, not the logo on the handles or the top of the lid. Again, I am guessing early 1950's, but I need to research. Unless someone knows.

Unslow - the white plastic dumbbell looking thing looks like the dispenser/handle for a roll of 1-1/2" or 2" shrinkwrap. :dunno:

LUG yeah you are really dragging out the good old Craftsman stuff. First thing I noticed was the logo's didn't match

Do you think the shanks (which have the earlier geometric C underline Craftsman stamped in them) have been put in newer handles (which have the later logo on a foil decal)? Or did the set come that way? I am inclined to think it came that way, guessing in the early 1950's, during a time of transition. Thoughts?

I would think the lathe knives came that way, the manufacturer probably had more knives left over after the logo change and just filled the newer boxes until stock ran out. I've had a couple crossover pieces like that but bo where near that good of condition, great find!

I would agree it was during a transitional period of changing logo's . late 1940's early 50's.

Well every sale but one was a dud this weekend :( Lucked out with one TOO, checked Craigslist just before heading out the door from work on Friday. Moving sale with lots of tools posted at 3:00pm, what the hell its basically on my way home. Lots of tools but most everything was stuff I already had and not really any upgrades. So got talking to the guy and told him I am looking for older unique stuff and he says he has a really old ratchet that he wasn't really looking to sell.

So he shows it to me and we get talking and he offers to sell it to me. So for all my efforts this weekend all I have to show for it is a Plomb 3/4" drive ratchet from 1937 in surprisingly excellant condition for 80 years old. Interesting what doors sometimes open when you get talking to folks. At least is was something for a dud of a weekend. Total cost $10

Slow day at the auction today. I bid on truckload of Lyon cabinets, only to get outbid on all of them. Did come home with this load of random tools and a eagle trash can.

I agree, I have several transitional pieces with different logos, mostly late 70's early 80's rectangular logo Craftsman that also have Crown logos on some part.

One ES stop on the way home after work Friday. Most everything was way over priced and really dirty. And I mean nasty dirty.
On one of the tables however I did fond something I really need. A 2" square receiver piece complete with 2" ball and hitch pin. And all parts were brand new like never used. Even came with a plastic ball cover. So I paid the $20 and was happy knowing it's something I can immediately use and would cost more if bought separately.

That Eagle can is actually an oily rag safety can to help prevent fires from shop rags. Good find and great price!

Just cleaned the back of the Snap On box, it's a KR537D.

This was another I picked up last week, Mac MB920, I see these were also made by Marco which helps explain the mixed up handles, some say Mac, others say Matco.

Exactly, something I probably should have bought a long time ago. Now I just gotta get in the habit of actually using it.

I'm guessing around 60lbs. A #104 I found was listed at 47lbs. The pad of paper in the background and the tool box also lead me to believe that is about right size wise.

The old ads claimed 76 lbs.

I wasn't able to post yesterday as most of the day was spent moving my new grad daughter, to a new place. I was able to hit three YS's but pickings were VERY slim. I missed on a promising Too sale and a Block sale in the town my daughter lives in... no time...

Yesterday: for $1 soldering tools dental pick Klein Bent NN and a second place I got the Lens for 50c- they kept saying telescope lens, I'm thinking overhead projector of some sort.

attachment.php

Today: during the gas-up run for $3 a Craftsman Double Bit Axe head, a Ford Adjustable with the square drive tiped handle, a Kawasaki DOE, what I thought was a Plvmb Lawsuit DBE, but you can see Proto under the grindings, :dunno: , a Tru Fit DBE, a Proto DOE, most of a set of Truecraft Torx w/dupes, a SO driver and 1/4" socket, None Better Socket, and the brass driver is probably a Gam, definitely par tof one of the screw together sets. I keep picking up the singletons and maybe I'll get another set or three together.
