Garage sale buys 6-4-16 017 by troy todd, on FlickrThe official name for the selector is "Butterfly" (as seen in the literature for the rebuild kits). The nickname "Flying V", or just "V", came after. The TV show came out 2-3 years after the ratchet was out of production. The nickname "Star Trek ratchet" is a more recent phenomenon.

Between the auger bit set on Friday, and these lathe chisels and the midget box wrench set today, it’s been a Craftsman weekend so for me – and I am not really a Craftsman collector. In fact, I usually ignore vinyl/plastic pouches, and I especially ignore chrome!
EDIT: BTW, the marking on the shanks is the geometric C underline Craftsman logo, matching the logo on the felt lining under the lid, not the logo on the handles or the top of the lid. Again, I am guessing early 1950's, but I need to research. Unless someone knows.
The nickname "Star Trek ratchet" is a more recent phenomenon.
Do you think the shanks (which have the earlier geometric C underline Craftsman stamped in them) have been put in newer handles (which have the later logo on a foil decal)? Or did the set come that way? I am inclined to think it came that way, guessing in the early 1950's, during a time of transition. Thoughts?LUG yeah you are really dragging out the good old Craftsman stuff. First thing I noticed was the logo's didn't match

I would think the lathe knives came that way, the manufacturer probably had more knives left over after the logo change and just filled the newer boxes until stock ran out. I've had a couple crossover pieces like that but bo where near that good of condition, great find!

I just picked up the same Eagle can about a week it two ago. Nice find.
Bought these Mac and Snap On top boxes via garage sales a few weeks ago but just getting around to cleaning them up. Anyone recognize the model #'s
Paid $60 for the Mac
Paid $110 for the Snap on, had some tools in it and a very old Ziploc with some weed in it.
Thanks in advance

That Eagle can is actually an oily rag safety can to help prevent fires from shop rags. Good find and great price!

I'm guessing around 60lbs. A #104 I found was listed at 47lbs. The pad of paper in the background and the tool box also lead me to believe that is about right size wise.
, a Tru Fit DBE, a Proto DOE, most of a set of Truecraft Torx w/dupes, a SO driver and 1/4" socket, None Better Socket, and the brass driver is probably a Gam, definitely par tof one of the screw together sets. I keep picking up the singletons and maybe I'll get another set or three together.
