Morgan 80 is listed at 189 lbs, 211 lbs with the swivel base. Direct from Milwaukee tools catalog. I'd take one or two

Jrobb - You are correct I was wrong on the weight. The columbian is the light one. I went out and looked it over and I still maintain it is near the bottom for a big vise in my opinion. You can however still order parts and I remember mine was missing the nut and I got one for it about 6 years ago. I just got two more big vises home and will post pics. The one is a RR specific vise and I have only seen one other.

Do you think it's wise to transport a body in the trunk of a car that's painted Arrest-Me-Red ?

Kinda asking to get caught if you ask me .

I don't own it, but know where there's an Athol 618 (8" jaw) that has seen better days. Other than the jaws and some wear/damage on the top corners of the slide it doesn't look too bad, but can the jaws be fixed? I can't tell from the pictures if they're cast in or not. I'm not sure on the price, but it's on a regional auction site and is at something like $110 right now with several days to go.

The repair on that bad boy is easy peasy. I have a delivery today that I will share, it will make my life much easier and finally give me time to work on vises.

I can't seem to luck into one of those GIANT vises that you guys keep coming up with. A few weeks ago I found this old Craftsman 'Garage Vise' at the flea for $10 bucks. All of the edges looked straight and square, like it was never used. Just a solid layer of rust over everything.
I just pulled it out of the E-Tank last night. Need to pick a color for it. Looks like it originally had a blue crackle finish according to the catalog that Outlaw posted.

Cool...I was hoping that vise is a candidate for saving....too cool for it not to be.

I think I heard through the grapevine what that delivery might be :D

WOW!!!! It looks brand new! I would like to know more about your E-Tank. Did you make it yourself and if so how?

Thanks! Everything I learned about home made electrolysis, I learned from the thread HERE on the GJ. It's really not at all difficult and you probably have most of the supplies already sitting around.
I used an old horse trough because I wanted to be able to dip much larger objects in the tank, but it can be as small as a 5 gallon bucket.
Originally, I used my image hosting account at imgur.com to post images, and for some reason all those links are now broken, so my images are lost to the abyss. Still plenty of other images in that thread to get you there. Good luck!

Edit:
Username that looks great!
Thanks Outlaw!

I am thinking about a vise for my Work Bench Goals project. These are what I have available. I am leaning towards the Samson just because it would take the least time to get ready. The Wilton already has a home on my main working bench. The Reed I have had for a long time and have not tried to find the missing nut and find out what is missing or needs repair. I definitely need Vise guru help on this one. The Columbian I bought new in the early 70's IIRC, the nut is stripped out.

Can you send a close up picture of the front of the Reed vise? Trying to see if it's smooth or threaded. Is there a hole on the main screw right before the hub/nose?

That Reed.. looks like the hub is broken. There should be a small shoulder on it so that it locks into a split nut that's screwed into the front of the slide.

That's what I was thinking. Just didn't want to come to any conclusion without seeing it closely.

Got bored and restored these three. Littlestown 400, Athol 88 and Stanley 762.

Bagged, it is threaded. The shaft has some braze on it, cannot tell if there was a hole. I am almost out the door to a car show this evening, I will get a couple of close ups in the morning.

JP: since you already have a nice Bullet mounted i'd suggest mounting the Sampson after a little cleaning and greasing unless you really need a swivel. the Reed 203.5 is a fairly small vise so if it's missing a vise nut (is it?) it might not be the best spent money to buy parts to fix it. i know Chilang finds and restores vises near you that you could probably trade him something or buy one of his to free up some of his bench space. give him a PM and you two should meet if you have time. he can also probably take a look at your Reed in person and let you know what it needs.

JOE & MEATSIS: while i know you two are friends i'm sure feelings could be hurt when dealing with 8 inch vises. usually the conversation heads a different direction every time we talk about jaw size if you know what i mean, but let's agree to not give each other a DIRT NAP and leave that old beat up Athol to somebody that really NEEDS IT.

ALL: hope you all have a great weekend and i still haven't seen my friend with his 20 vises to sell, but maybe he'll decide not to sell any and i'll make it 4 weeks without buying one even though i'm touching several every day.

cheers all

Drives,
4 weeks without buying a vise?

There are so few vise deals in my part of the world that when I do buy one, the heavens open up and a chorus of angels sing "Alleluia".

I know this pic's are not a vise but this brand new CNC machine will only make vise stuff. I am pretty happy it is in the shop, still need to drop it 9" and trim some shields to fit in between the floor joist and move it back another foot. Had to use my plow truck to help push the forklift up my steep driveway. Yes it's tight but I have a machine with a tool changer and that is like hiring a employee. Gonna be fun to carving out all sorts of vise parts. My old machine will be for vises only, expecting a 8 incher from Kansas soon.
