Joe - I have a Morgan 80 just like the one you saw. They are a very cheesey vise in my opinion and weigh less than 150#. If its cheap enough though.....problem is... we are both broke! While I was buying a lathe today i saw this Morgan 80 8" vise. I keep trying to buy it....sigh.

I just got two more big vises home and will post pics. The one is a RR specific vise and I have only seen one other.
Local pickup only. Who the hell wants to drive out to Long Island!!! I sure don't , but I will if I have to

And the bidding war begins!
It's on!!!!!

And all the while you guys are flapping your jaws, Bagged is being silent. I bet he already reserved a round trip spot on the LI Ferry and is on his way home with it in his trunk.![]()

Very nice work. I was not aware of this type of vise. Awesome looking and great restoration!![]()
If he brings it home in his trunk I'll take him to the dump in his trunk. Know what I mean!!!

I don't own it, but know where there's an Athol 618 (8" jaw) that has seen better days. Other than the jaws and some wear/damage on the top corners of the slide it doesn't look too bad, but can the jaws be fixed? I can't tell from the pictures if they're cast in or not. I'm not sure on the price, but it's on a regional auction site and is at something like $110 right now with several days to go.
The repair on that bad boy is easy peasy. I have a delivery today that I will share, it will make my life much easier and finally give me time to work on vises.
Do you think it's wise to transport a body in the truck of a car that's painted Arrest-Me-Red ?
Kinda asking to get caught if you ask me .![]()

Cool...I was hoping that vise is a candidate for saving....too cool for it not to be.
I think I heard through the grapevine what that delivery might be![]()
I can't seem to luck into one of those GIANT vises that you guys keep coming up with. A few weeks ago I found this old Craftsman 'Garage Vise' at the flea for $10 bucks. All of the edges looked straight and square, like it was never used. Just a solid layer of rust over everything.
I just pulled it out of the E-Tank last night. Need to pick a color for it. Looks like it originally had a blue crackle finish according to the catalog that Outlaw posted.

WOW!!!! It looks brand new! I would like to know more about your E-Tank. Did you make it yourself and if so how?

Thanks Outlaw!Username that looks great!
I am thinking about a vise for my Work Bench Goals project. These are what I have available. I am leaning towards the Samson just because it would take the least time to get ready. The Wilton already has a home on my main working bench. The Reed I have had for a long time and have not tried to find the missing nut and find out what is missing or needs repair. I definitely need Vise guru help on this one. The Columbian I bought new in the early 70's IIRC, the nut is stripped out.
That Reed.. looks like the hub is broken. There should be a small shoulder on it so that it locks into a split nut that's screwed into the front of the slide.
That's what I was thinking. Just didn't want to come to any conclusion without seeing it closely.
Can you send a close up picture of the front of the Reed vise? Trying to see if it's smooth or threaded. Is there a hole on the main screw right before the hub/nose?

Weird, try this http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-POW...=item33bac68f2b:g:mX8AAOSwnNBXbcnP&rmvSB=truePreviously posted by Seber.

For some reason the EBay link that Seber posted does not show the vise anymore.![]()
ALL: hope you all have a great weekend and i still haven't seen my friend with his 20 vises to sell, but maybe he'll decide not to sell any and i'll make it 4 weeks without buying one even though i'm touching several every day.
cheers all
