I thought when I caught up with this thread you would have at least had something painted.:lol_hitti

No painting yet, I did receive a don't need to paint right away exemption from the nazi painting dude in Tallahasse, err I mean my fellow FCSOA memeber.:lol_hitti

I need to check into the paint some more. The blue paint Majic brand that I used for the pallet rack seems like it may of lost its shine, it's been inside, so I'm not sure if it's just me or what. I need to confirm this before I embarked on painting everything.

Now it also has me looking for a slightly darker blue.

Enjoyed a visit from Craptain today, we met for lunch and had some liquid dessert at the shop.while we were at lunch, my wife texted me to tell me the dogs were up, horse in pausture and, she opened my shop so it would be airing out to cool off some knowing we were on the way. Got it made I do.

It's always such a good time to have another shop oriented person around. I was thinking he was awed by my shop, he was taking pictures, oh the honor......... Then I hear him say I think I finally found someone whose shop is messier than his.:lol_hitti.

But fear not, there's a plan most of us say.

Good day no doubt. Had a blast.

It was an honor to be invited. But please don't misquote me. What I actually said was "someone worse than me" Meaning can't pass a sale without buying and then keeping it in the shop. And I mean keeping everything.
At least you can walk through your shop which is more than I can say for mine.

Thanks again for the hospitality.

You should of seen it a couple years ago when I really kept everything.

No, not more stuff than now, just purged of stuff I didn't use and refilled with stuff of more likley to use. Just have more of the bigger things now, such as the cm table saw to be redone which will replace my delta, some day, and so on.

I probably have a about a whole shelf unit worth of stuff to sell, just slow going.

I manage to find pretty much, almost everything.most of the time.:lol_hitti

I know where the fridge is:beer:

Another item I picked for the shop, a 1955 swivel almost all aluminum office chair that I'm going to modify into a stool for the new bench.

So now I have a 55' chair to go with my 60's butcher block top along with a 100 year old wood vise.

A little progress on the current master plan.

I'm working on getting the bench we set up for my son a few years back out from the depths of the corner of the shop.
See, it's right there in the corner.
daec464e2d9b97875a32f741b88a473a.jpg
The bench is 11' long and the frame is 4x4x1/4" wall square tube and has a old restaurant stainless top on most of it. There's a 1/2" plate vise mount and the very end is going to be fitted with a stainless pan with a drain. This will be used to drain ATV engines on as he breaks them down.
I set up my 2"x72" belt grinder on a temporary stand and installed some casters. Now I can fully use this tool.
74b5d52ad1817c72466034e3d4b7938f.jpg
After some clearing, there's the bench, I told you there was one there!
1d1b91d9231bd910daab4374af86fb7c.jpg

All jacked up and ready to roll on the dollies.
c9ee0d93e86ce93fb9d8196d98a2b141.jpg
Tight fit coming around the shelf unit.
44a926f53dc6ac8e25e37cd77fab8c33.jpg
Got it out, this is a big turning point for me. Now I just need to get the vise and pan mounted so the son can take it to HIS shop this weekend.
7286b432cc4eb39102681db061bfccac.jpg
Now the lathe is in its final spot in the shop. Yes it's un level, but the it is blocked up under the supports.
38175072d67065f6ec03cbc406cb2071.jpg

My son buys and sells ATV, whole and in parts. He worked his way through college doing just this and saved enough to buy his home and still does this for work today. Most of the oil stains are from his ATV work, but I'm not complaining much. I just look at it as my sacrifice to bringing him full circle to being his own man.

Anyway, that's my update for this week, hope to have more soon.

CB, that's one really big step in the right direction. This is going to pave the way for all the plans you had down the road. Keep it up and before you know it you'll be done.

Did you get a chance to take a stab at those plugs yet, or are you going to let them soak for a week or two?

I'm going to wait until after my trip to Taumacs, you know if I mess with them days before a trip, something will happen.

My plan is to try and blow out any debris and soak like you say a couple times. A couple hot/cold cycles with the spray can't hurt anything.

16 plugs on that Hemi.

Getting back to your vise on wheels. That looks like it probably weighs a lot.

It's heavy, haven't weighed it though. There's a little debate about the Columbian's on the vise thread not being that heavy, someone stated 180 lbs, sound about right. It's fine for me, I'll never hurt it.

A freind who had a scrap yard at the time gave that to me, actullay gave me welding table and this was attached.

I pulled up to,his yard and he had the table in the air ready for me to back under. He picked it up with a trac hoe equipped with grapplers, and the only thing he could get a grip on was the vise, so the whole table was horizontal in the air with just the graps clamped on the vise. Gave the vise a stress test right there.
It just underscores what people throw away in scrap. If I didn't pick it up, he would of just processed it as he was a high volume, small yard.
It's sickening.

Had a great visit with Shorty after our gathering at Taumacs. As Taumac would say, it's just down the road.

We hit a few sales after breakfast and and then hung out at the shop, where Shorty tried to absorb everything I had in there. Good time with some genuine shop talk with a few beers. Always enjoy the company with you guys coming by.

But I did catch him measuring my saw, thought he was sizing it up to see if it fit in wifes SUV.:evil:
233e891ff7b84a5975431e14cb13453b.jpg

Well, I was half right. See, I did a good job of enabling today, I came across a bandsaw and I had known he was looking for one, so he checked to see if we could stuff it in the back of the SUV.

We got that and a pretty good handful of other stuff in there .

Last time I spoke to him, he was trying to time getting home late and get up early to go unload the car before his wife woke up. I'm sure if she sees it, I'll somehow get blamed for it.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Anyway, thanks for stopping by Shorty, look forward to our next gathering.

Craig, Stewart is a brave man filling his wife's Caddy with non-wearable treasures. We kept the PT Cruiser to avoid that situation.

Yep, got a PM from him this morning. He must still be alive.:dunno: Maybe it was his wife just trying to give herself an alibi.:lol_hitti

Sounds like you guys had a great time on Friday. Thanks for letting me in on it.

Not much going on, heat has me lazy too. I did get my sons bench done and out of my shop, so that's 11' of floor space I pick up.
We put a stainless top on a 3" square tube frame a few years back for him to use as a engine and ATV parts tear down bench. Last year he bought his own place and we jus got around to getting this done.

He was going to buy a transmission tear down cart with a drain for fluids, I suggested he modify this bench to do the same. I had a stainless pan formed up to install on the end.
Here's what I started with.
3646d88a41252a23b53035a88ecaea6b.jpg
New pan with coupling welded for a drain.
8e7a45aad434c7f66f8623937096ac3b.jpg
I welded a 2" angle inside the frame for the drain ****** to attach to. I welded two bolts to the ****** and they will be used to pull down on pan for slope to the drain and also anchors pan to bench frame.

b15ffda7f4a689a69fd66d2c5aaa940d.jpg
bba22954ea8c1241cc539735438e6a6f.jpg

The stainless pan kicked my *** welding, my tig isn't set up and had to use a 3/32 stick rod , got it done though.

Drilled for vise mounting holes
62c1736007b60c7de1d9a434c8bc6850.jpg

On trailer and ready to go. It still had parts and misc. that he left on it from last time he worked n it. I just shrink wrap as was and delivered. It's like a time capsule under the wrap.
f69a74486a6532cd634578b5646b7b44.jpg

Unloading. Son borrowed a forklift from neighbor, which was nice as this bench is heavy. Only the forklift mast cylinder drifted like a *****, had to keep rpms up to keep forks in air, so made it interesting.
332ca10e98464bd8a4225a87080ce2df.jpg

Here it is in place.
9a126d05613c2d1193a319e47d568d09.jpg

It was a good day, got it out of my shop so I can continue my latest layout, son got his bench he needed, and we celebrated my wife's birthday.

Way to go cb. Great repurposing job. And welding stainless isn't easy ( I heard) with the right equipment at hand. And to free up that much space.

You must have finally got that "fresh smell" out of that T shirt so your brain could stay focused on the task at hand.:lol_hitti You might get her to refresh the smell for you as I think she's headed over to Gerard's to shake up some paint for him.:eyecrazy: I want a video (not pictures) of it if it happens.

You'll have to go on the next trip dan and you won't miss out on what was behind the shirt. We just had to use our imagination, I'm sure Gerard would have a paint stirrer if she went to visit. :lol_hitti

Sorry CB for not chiming in earlier, I have been following here for a while. Are you planning wall of lista or vidmar in the reclaimed shed space ?

Cheers GB :beer2:

Ahh, yes , memories of what is behind the shirt:beer:. Isn't your imagination a great thing:lol_hitti

GB, the area where the bench was will be occupied by my lathe and a Kennady stack and misc.

I'm actually splitting up the tall Vidmars, one will moved across the shop, the other two will stay together but will run perpendicular to the wall and will create a open spot to the wall for my to be built bench.

I'll post up a current drawing to help show you.

I've had a layout for years, just never completly got it done. The current design reflects imput from Taumac and Shorty, with my tweaking. Of course being the Nazi shop ninnies that they are sometimes, there seems to be some long distance whining that I didn't go with thier complete layout:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:beer::beer:.
It's all good, of course someone esles ideas earley completly fits someone else's shops, it's the little tidbits that get brought out in the light and the light bulbs start going off.
Thanks for stopping by.

And here we thought the power was turned off. :lol_hitti

When are you putting the plan in action?

GB, here is my latest layout.
3d9aee7d45d440640834c5b5ae601a18.jpg

So far, it's tracking pretty good. I'm resisting the urge to just move everything now, but sticking to a rough sequence I imposed on myself ( voted and ratified by a couple members here) to keep from a further imploded look!

But, for once I can truly say I have a 95% complete plan of what I'm doing in the shop.

Oh, and I have a pass not to paint right away, if you can imagine that. But you know as well as I do that'll be forgotten in short time.

It'll never be completely done of course.

That is going to be a pretty cool setup when you are done.

Gerard what is SMH ?

GB

GB, that would be " shaking my head" , because I dared not to use his version of the plan:lol_hitti

I guess I offened the prez of the Florida Chapter, so he'll probably try to make me paint his garage or something:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:beer:
