Coop, things are ticking away nicely in the West Wing
. I am treating it like we were going to live in it ourselves, not over the top but just practical in every sense of the word.

Good weekends progress 1/2 cup!

The karting is always fun. There's several different karting places around Newcastle/the Hunter, indoor and outdoor, and we probably go karting about twice a year with family and some friends. Always good fun! My brothers and I normally take up the top 4 places, but the order always varys (as much due to variations between karts as anything). Dad always used to win when we were growing up, but we overtook him a while back...

When Mrs 1/2 Cup takes on a mission its always boots and all

Approaching 40 forty years of marriage next year I am guessing you could classify her as a "keeper" I do have to say we do work well together as a team.

Turning the house into a home has been our focus all along and will be just as prudent when it come to tenants let me tell you.


Mrs 1/2 Cup has turned her attention to painting all the doors now, that's a big job in it self.

I picked up a new toilet suite yesterday and following some floor repairs during the week, I will try and install it next week end.

I think every one should try karting once in their lifetime, I know I will be doing it again sometime.

Nice job a few pages back with triple checking the measurements on that engine build! The difference between an engine that lasts 20 years and one that lasts 20 months is in the fractions of an inch.

I just popped home from our bonding session to change for dinner.
We have had a top afternoon so far, no injuries me included.
The go karts were a buzz all 35 of us had a lash, divided into 5 groups.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is a keeper for sure, she is battling a cold at the moment and yet still painting away. Talk about true to the cause.

I would like to do some before and after shots when we finish the painting, floor and window coverings. Watch this space..

Sean, you are right there. The old engine has done 5 seasons now and is still running strong. The dyno test and mapping of the old engine is scheduled for Monday week so that will be interesting.

I received a text from Andrew earlier saying the replacement liners had arrived from the UK this morning and would I be right to knock off work early to do the install tonight?? Yeah right…

Drives, I had a bit of a chuckle over that I wont let on to Mrs 1/2 Cup.

Winter is on the turn now, no snow where we are fortunately, just cold, wet and windy.

It has been one of the wettest winters we have had in a long time which all goes well for the season ahead. The country side is fairly saturated now and we are getting some much needed run off into our storages.

Mrs 1/2 Cup had a day off today from the West Wing duties at my insistence this morning and I must say she is much better for it.

Rover K Series build update.

The new liners arrived this morning and I could not wait to do an initial measure up on the rings tonight.
Just a quick check on one compression ring and I found .080 mm difference with the new liners over the old ( new OEM ) ones. So it looks like we are on the home run now with the gaps in spec.

So there is another days work to recheck and best fit the rest.

i wish Denwood lived closer to you so he could take a time lapse video of you putting that engine together. it would get a million views watching your skills with all that shiny engine bling.

almost every day lately starts off with morning clouds and by afternoon it's mid 80's and sunny. feels like we live on the ocean and i'm a good 50 miles or so as the Eagle flys to get there even though i can launch a boat a mile away into salt water that comes from the ocean. in fact last summer we had a whale die on our beach below us that i guess stunk pretty good. i think it got hit by one of the big ships that travel by like this one that a ferry boat i was riding on just maneuvered by. in any case i know you'll have 90 degree days soon enough so hope the winter season comes and goes without any huge storms like they had not far from you last month.

Terrick, this build I am using Diesel Power Parts assembly lube that was recommended by the machinist that did the balancing for us and that's on bearings, rings and cams.

This is the first engine I have built that's Metric, I am still trying to get my head around it and find myself continually doing a sanity check using thous.

The liners were not that expensive, they worked out about AU$ 730.00 for the set, plus tax and freight. Andrew has not said what the final cost was. Updated

A time lapse would be great, but it may be my undoing as well.

80 degrees is my sort of temperature, I am not big on the heat. At least the Shed Downunder is airconditioned.

We are about 150 miles from the sea, so there is no sea breeze here at all. A dead whale, I have no doubt it would have been on the nose just a tad.

To be honest its doing my head in trying to get this pea brain to work. Luckily my Mitutoyo calipers are both metric and imperial. May be I should just stick to metric and be done with it.

I am approaching 60 this October, we were married when I was 20. Mrs 1/2 Cup is a whole two years my junior.
I must say that Mrs 1/2 Cup is a real treasure to have to endure me for that long.
We have been through a lot together in that time, looking back now I wouldn't have changed a thing...

Terrick, I have resigned to the fact now ( under duress ) that don't bother to convert, its Metric and the is no turning back on this build.

Andrew dropped by after work and it became obvious I was clouding the issue for him in doing so. We did a remeasure tonight just for the exercise on one compression ring so it was Metric all the way and trusting that Rover had got it right in the first place as there is some big discrepancies between that and the Hayes manual.

All the best for your 30th, I am not particularly a romantic by nature but we will be doing some thing special together for out 40 th for sure.

drives, I really need to put some serious thought into what we do to celebrate our 40th next year. It will be a huge milestone for us...

I have put the go kart challenge out there and when we get 5 it's on.

Our next challenge is to put Mrs 1/2 Cup behind the wheel of the MG F at a come and try day over at Winton Motor Raceway. She has always been a closet petrol head and is always tutoring my son about his driving lines. The last time we tried her excuse was that the helmet would mess with her hair.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is, well I will put it this way. Takes no prisoners when it comes to her very assertive driving technique.
I did find evidence of that when I was going through her purse ( one of twenty ) to retrieve some small change. Low and behold I found a customer copy ( pink ticket ) of a fine issued for tail gating and failing to maintain a safe driving distance.
PS I have never let on to her that I found it..

So she would do well on the Karting track.

• Installation of new toilet suite.
• Reinstall all the door hardware as Mrs ½ Cup has removed them all to repaint each door.
• Reinstall a couple of the doors that Mrs ½ Cup insisted on taking down to paint.
• Install trim to sliding door that was never installed by the PO in the first instance.
• Remove all carpet and underlay.
• Level up wardrobe door track – Bedroom three.

Mrs ½ Cup has been beavering away at painting all this week despite her Man Cold and only has the bathroom and kitchen left to complete now.

I have given her a day off today as she has a hair appointment.

• Reinstall all piston rings.
• Fit pistons to rods.

The gardens x two.

• Edge and mow lawns.
• Prune back our lemon tree.
• Prune Roses in the West Wing that are amazingly still out in flower.

• Take Shelby for a walk.
• Smell the roses.

Yet again have a good one and thank you one and all for dropping by..

I'll say it again, your thread moves fast! I'm gone a week and you find the new liners are bunk and the "new" water pump had a bad seal. Plus, holly cow! That is some To Do list, 1/2 Cup. It makes me tired just reading it.
