Thomas,

I had occasion to be in Philo late last week and drove by your place. It is looking great. Your hard work and planning is obvious even from the road. I felt like I had already been there thanks to this thread. I'll be coming back over in the next few weeks and will look to see you out so I can say hello in person. Although I fear even a quick hello will slow you down. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the update Thomas. Seems a pity to spoil that lovely stone with the energy meter, but I suppose it has to go somewhere.

Lou and I are both members of the San Diego Roadster Club (SDRC) and we'll be helping fellow club members on an as needed basis. We'll have over 30 different cars out there so it'll vary from day to day. We also expect we'll be helping Jacob Bagnell of the Al Jerauld "Y" manifold fame with his motorcycle as well.

Here's the 3 of us in 2014 when we were rained out. We're pretty confident he'll get a record with it. Stand by. Weather and salt conditions right now are excellent. Lou and I were talking with Danny Thompson, Micky Thompson's son in his pit today. He brought Micky's twin engine streamliner, Challenger II from 1968 out: https://www.google.com/search?q=dan...-RhrvOAhUCRCYKHSWkANIQsAQINQ&biw=1006&bih=448 and is planning on setting the wheel driven land speed record with it. I took tons of pictures of it. Wow, what a wonderful piece of engineering it is. Stand by for that!

So sorry to miss you Derek and thanks for the kind words. No worries about slowing me down, please feel free to stop by. There's always time for friends, even if it's brief.

Thanks for the update Thomas. Seems a pity to spoil that lovely stone with the energy meter, but I suppose it has to go somewhere.

I feel the same Pete but you're right, it has to go somewhere. May as well have a nice background!

Thomas, I see Carry has a '62 Vette in the back ground...nice! I'm hot for that vintage go cart. Those vintage ones float my boat. Can you or Carry tell me what year, model and power. Enjoy the speed week activities. House construction is just amazing. :) Dennis

Hello Thomas, checking in here on your awesome projects.

Sometimes I wonder if you're the guy I had a few drinks with in the Marriott bar in FRA (2010), he was a 767 driver for UA out of IAD, and flew over to FRA to buy mustard. Had a great conversation with him.

Anyways, wanted to say hello.

50 pages, and several hours later i am finally back up to date on the project. Keep up the good work! Hopefully there's a chance this fall/next spring to make it out your way again for a proper tour of the shop. Based on how the house is going you should about have it wrapped up in a month :D

Thomas, thanks again for the great thread, the week goes by slowly waiting for the Friday check in, or maybe that's the work thing getting in the way,

We're getting close to building out the shop with a mezzanine, office, bathroom!, and more. I hope to document the build at about Thomas minus 50%, so we'll be posting only the things we get right or spectacularly wrong, Still thinking through the retractable stairs to the mezzanine, think it's going to have to be electro-mechanical (motor and threaded rod) to keep it simple compact, and safe.

hope you enjoyed the flats, hope to see that one day.

It's very busy here since Tom and Lou returned from BSF -- 14-16 hr days working on the house and getting the lawn mowed in between. I'm gearing up for our club's annual car show at the local Urbana Sweetcorn Festival on Aug 27 - it's our 20th year associated with the festival and we want to do it up right. We're featuring Orphan Cars to honor the organization our car show benefits - Cunningham Children's Home, which was started by the United Methodist Women as an orphanage in 1895. It now serves youth with behavioral issues. It's a wonderful organization that I worked with when I was a special education administrator in the local schools.

More info to come.

One more....

...and we've broken 500 pages.

Nothing magical.....yet......

Chris

I was waiting for it to freeze up or ticker tape to start falling. LOL What a disappointment!

Maybe it's in another time zone!? Maybe Ryan won't catch on that we're continuing the journey. Don't tell him. It's our secret.

I bet some of you thought I'd throw in the pop quiz here. Well, that wouldn't be a surprise, now would it...

Congratulations on that milestone Chris, now we can all start counting down the next 18 posts to the magic 10,000.

OK, make that 17 now.

Well, I see there is one less reply needed to get to the 10k mark.

Amazing what a following this thread has.

I may be driving up to the Centre of the Universe in early October with Dennis from St Louis, Missouri to see if your coffee is as good as it should be. :D:D:D

Congrats on the 500 page mark. When things settle down a bit I'm sure we would all love to hear your views on BSF this year. And of course we're all still following any and all house updates. But I can imagine how busy you all are right now so……patiently awaiting updates.

It was another long day yesterday and will be so today, but I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge all the support and interest from everyone here. I had no idea what-so-ever when I started this thread in 2009 I'd still be at it 500 pages later in 2016! You guys are true gluttons for punishment it would seem!!

As you know Lou and I took a few days spending some time at Bonneville for Speed Week. I'll do a proper post on that shortly. Some of those Bonneville highlights were meeting up with Beltsville Shell author Cary Thomas...

...seen standing on the right by his friend Don, a retired Continental pilot and Lou sitting on the left. Cary's so intrigued by our Brotherhood of the Traveling Book as he puts it. I'll let him know it's now safely in Australia touring that continent along with New Zealand. Thanks Lyndon for letting us know BS is safe and sound.

As soon as I got back home I was hard at home construction once more. The brick is done on 3 sides now...

...the tall, south side with all the windows is done too. I'll post that side later today I hope. Stone will be laid in the external corners where white Tyvek is showing.

The roof is now shingled and the copper valley's installed so we're finally dry inside! The electrical power line was pulled in yesterday and the electric meter installed. I'll have temporary, internal electrical power in another day or so. That's a milestone - no more extension cords stretched from the barn.

There are more updates done but I need to go dig in a water line right now so I post about those later.

My sincere thanks again to all my great friends here for all your support and interest. That's what keeps me posting in!

Blessed Thomas

House is looking good Chris and Thomas, good to see you posting again. I was getting withdrawal symptoms and had to go over to the HAMB!

I got that water line dug today. I spent 5 hours with a round point shovel and a pick digging where no machine could and I gotta tell you I'm whipped!! We did get the water main connected so I now officially have water at the house. 60 psi of water pressure no less. I had the water company install a 1" water meter and a 1" tap to the meter off the water main. The line coming to the house is 1.25" so if Chris and I have all 3 showers going at the same time as the clothes washer we'll still have ample volume and pressure. :)

Here's the south wall being bricked. Note how useful the LULL is, lifting the mortar tub right to where it's needed. That saves a bunch of manual labor getting mortar and bricks up 2 or 3 stories.

This is the south wall just about done. The 2 rows of block in the middle is the area where a small roof will be built over the lower windows for summer shade. Since that area won't be seen, we used block to save bricks. We'll be building that roof section tomorrow. Check back to see that detail when it's done.

I'm off to bed now and up early tomorrow to move the project along. Many, many thanks again for all your kind thoughts and support. It is much appreciated.

Tired & Sore Thomas
