LMAO I JUST came to post that same thing. I was going to ask if others were seeing 50% back. You've been reading General Tool.

My last order it inexplicably gave me $10 in points (I couldn't figure out why). So on these screwdrivers I used $11.30 in my account, free 2 day shipping w MAX, about $24.30 delivered and they claim they're gonna give me $17.50 for later. The screwdrivers are practically free.

I DO like that their system is smart enough to charge sales tax on the balance AFTER points are applied. Our state tries to tax vehicles based on pre-rebates, arguing the vehicle dealer actually "paid" you the rebate. Um, no. It's just semantics for a SALE PRICE. Gubermint money-making scheme if I ever saw one.

Your math makes no sense to me. For the 14pc set, it should be $34.99 - $11.30 of your points = $23.69 x 50% back = $11.85 back in points

If using the mobile site, then it won't recalculate reward earnings after redeeming points as payment.

Anyone else have multiple items jump up in price in their cart, and points back basically dissappear? I had my cart jump by $60, and $50 in points back go away. Man.

That's normal. Many of their promos run Sunday to Saturday. They go by midnight central time.

Got enough points to get the pro set but already have the hard handles and the strike cap set don't know if I need the professionals enough are they better than the others

I say stick with what you already got.

Older choices:
Pro pry bars with strike caps, and better grip on the handle
Regular Craftsman pry bars with no strike caps, and a smooth, glossy red handle.

Yeah, I've been caught by the central time thing before, but it hit early this time. *****, because I had an order ready, and now its swung over $100 in the wrong direction. Almost all my points offers expired at the same time too.

my cart went up in price too. it did not go off sale, the sale just got less of a discount.

if i left it in my cart to think about, reducing the discount won't encourage me to buy it.

The older gold and black sets were labeled Craftsman Professional, and made in USA.

The older black/gold sets that came in a case like this set were not USA made, and are otherwise identical to the newer red/black sets. Craftsman used to have black handled mini pliers that were USA made, but I've never seen any black/gold Professional ones that were.

I ordered a few things, among them that 3-piece set of pry bars with the strike caps for $18.52 (I think they were lower a few days ago?)...

Went to pick up, and they gave me the Pro versions instead! Woohoo! Funny thing was while walking through the store I saw the regular ones (albeit in a different area than all the others, on the end of an isle).

Almost made the 50 mile round trip worth it. I didn't think they were going to be open today but they were.

Last night I found them on-line for $29.99 with free store pick up , and could not resist ordering the professional set at that price. I suspect they are trying to clearance them out. I just checked and they are now back to $51.99.

The math is simple.

$35/2 = $17.50

You only get 50% back on the dollars that you come out of pocket. Your points that you use to pay DO NOT count. Believe me I have done this a bunch of times. To prove it to yourself look at your points back after you load an item into your cart then put your points towards the cost and watch your point points back drop.

Oh yeah, you're right. The older USA ones were plain black handles.

Private sears franchise is going out of business in Fishers, IN, all tools 50% off. I picked up two of the 302 piece sets for $175 each. They also had 311 piece sets for $200. The family is getting good birthday / Father's Day gifts this year.

That 302 piece is $309 online!

The 311 piece is the same at $200 online.

Assuming they are the same packages...

You should probably go through the sets to make sure that they are not missing any pieces so you can call and get replacements if needed before it is past their time limit (I forget if it is one month or 90 days)

I saw they had a SYW Max Promo, $10 back in points with a minimum $30 purchase... That's probably what it was from. If you click on the points detail on your cart page it explains everything. Why they over-complicate their points stuff I have no idea...

I went through both sets. No errors. These included rails for storage which made it easier to organize. I've seen errors in the past, so always careful to verify.

Well I only owned **** pry bars so ten more dollars for a better set I feel it's worth it. What will **** is when it brakes and I need a replacement don't think the pro line is coming back. The handles feel nicer if you used the craftsman pro line or a Armstrong screwdriver handles are basically the same.

Well, Sears is starting to roll out the "Pro" line of everything as their "Made in USA" products once again... *rolleyes*... Whether it's too little too late we will have to wait and see...

When I went to pickup my items at a regular Sears at the mall, most of the store was in quite disarray with clothes racks looking like they've been ransacked and not neatly folded and stacked or hanged in nice groups. Kitchen appliance area looked like it was untouched, lots of product piled up... I'm sure people found cheaper elsewhere. Mattress area was half empty and not much selection. Large kitchen appliances were kind of off to a side room, about the same selection as Lowes or HD, but not arranged neatly or clear prices on everything. Finally the Lawn / Garden / Tools area... It too looked like a tornado swept through that place. Some things they had piles of (toolboxes), other areas the shelves were completely bare. Tools were not organized or grouped together well at all. The employees were friendly and always asking if they could help me with anything though.

The Sears Hometown store that is the usual one I visit (and much closer) is always very well organized, clean, and friendly. It's a franchise and the owner is always there working hard, he also does the delivers and repair calls. Sometimes his kids are there running around the store, and his oldest son he's been teaching how to run the register. I like that store because he remembers what I bought, and we end up just chatting about whatnot. His prices on tools always seem to be the non-sale price, but if you just show him the Sears website page he will adjust it no problem.

When I lived in Houston we had a Sears Hardware close by. It was corporate owned but eventually became franchise owned several years back. I liked it because they had a better nut & bolt selection than even Lowes & HD. It was also more convenient if you only needed one little thing to go there for home repair parts. They had a small selection of kitchen appliances, okay paint section, and the usual lawn & garden equipment. Tool pricing is what really got me... Many things were marked down with the red tags, but then when you got to the register they would ring up even lower! Prices below what the website was for smaller hand tool stuff! (Large sets and power tools always matched the website prices.) How they stayed in business I do not know.

Craftsman Extreme Grip 10-Inch Adjustable Wrench $15.99 and $8.15 back in points. Regular price $40.

It's listed as a "hot buy" so you won't be able to use any coupon codes in your cart.

For some reason I think it was $9.99 before the 1st? Maybe not, I can't remember they keep changing their darn prices all the time, there needs to be a website like CCC to track Craftsman prices.

Ehhh...I personally wouldn't buy that.

It's just another do-all tool that is piece of **** in reality.

It is another POS gimmick Crapsman tool that will sit in your tool box.
Wait until the summer of 2017 because....... The updated "latest and greatest" version of this adjustable wrench will have a LED light and bottle opener built into it. :)

Went specifically to buy this 6 pc. Metric Die set today. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-pc-hex-die-set-metric/p-00952313000P?plpSellerId=Sears&prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4
$15.99 online, Red tagged at $7.24 in store. I had a $5 customer care coupon, out the door for $2.38 - some days things just work out. Of course, the ones in the picture online are shown as made in USA, now China.

Yep, even when I go for a pickup, I still browse the store to make sure I'm getting the best price. Every once in a while you can find a better deal. Also never hurts to see what's in the clearance corner! :)

Sears is killing me! I got an email for $10 back in points when you spend $15 & use some points, so I bought the prybars that are priced right now at $18.50 (and used $3.50 in points). Figure I can gift them or sell them pretty easy.

Likewise I had another that was $5 back in points on $25. I sold my set of extreme grip screwdrivers already so I bought another set that was $34.99 but I got $25.64 in points... LOL...

So when all those points kick in tomorrow, along with the $40 or so I already have, I'm going to buy some flex ratchets and wobble extensions using my points, plus I have another $7 in surprise points too I think...

If you are patient for decent coupons or surprise points and combine with items that also give good points back, you can re-sell said item for what you paid (or sometimes more!), then buy what you really want with the points you accrue... lol.

Never buy carbon steel taps & dies. You're throwing your money away. The only ones worth buying are high speed steel.

Yeah I agree on taps. That's why I've never looked twice at these sets. For dies though....if you're just using to clean up threads carbon steel isn't horrible. YES, the thread chaser or re-threading kits are technically the "more correct" tool for the job.

Mostly my concern is a broken tap can ruin your day, a broken die doesn't matter much.

Thanks for posting and I appreciate the post on any "hot deal"........ I can make up my mind to buy it or pass on it.

I agree but I'll leave that decision up to the individual. I just post 'em if it's a good price.

Back up to $40.00 anyways.
Not even a decent tool for the price?
what is it, Not well made, or just doesn't grip very well?

I don't think anyone here has used one. Personally, I think it looks like a pretty useful tool, although I'd be more inclined to buy the Stanley or Crescent version first. They have flat jaws like a traditional adjustable wrench, which would be more appropriate for my applications -- brass pipe fittings, etc.

This version has some grooves or serrations in the jaws. I think of it as a handheld mini-vise. I can see this being phenomenal for holding a piece against a grinding wheel, for instance.

(Disclosure: I also haven't used any of these hybrid locking plier / adjustable wrench tools. Based on reviews, it does sound to me like the principle is sound.)

Edit: I just ordered THREE of the Crescent version from a 3rd-party vendor on Amazon, for $24 shipped. I hadn't planned to buy one so soon, but it seemed like a great deal. They'll take a week or so to get here.
