Ordered the Koken spark plug sockets and the KTC zero offset wrenches today, will be my first Japanese tools, with the exception of a ton of Truecraft I collected years ago.

Regarding the Merry snap ring pliers - what's your assessment of the quality? Is there any slop in the joint of the pliers? Do the tips fit snuggly in the pliers? And are there five sets of tips with each plier?
Indeed, they carry a set of five tips of different thicknesses.
As for the adjustment and alignment of the same in the pliers is perfect.
Due to the regulations they incorporate, they are usable in a multitude of Seeger rings.

Those pliers are interesting, like linemen's pliers with a nice cable cutter instead of diagonal cutters. Are they for a specialized purpose or is it just an original design?
These pliers are much better than typical pliers (straight mouth) for cutting cables due to their specific curved mouths for this use.

I remember picking up a japanese tool magazine and it showed pictures inside the plant of Dean Tools and KTC. Fascinating stuff even tho I couldn't read a word that's on it.

I didn't go through the whole 100 pages of posts and sorry if this is a re-hash, but what about Aigo box end wrenches?

I have a few of them, that were included with some auction items. The sizes seem to jump quite a bit, so they don't seem to be from a set.

Got a few more Ko-Ken items. As always the fit and finish on these is phenomenal.

I was at one of Factory Gear's Tokyo stores earlier this month and bought a couple of things. The guy gave me several others items, including a 321-page 2017-2018 Koken catalog. If someone wants to pay postage, I will give it away; I don't need it.

 Probably the only other company that offers off-corner engagement is Wera.

Aigo is a company that's unfortunately no longer in business. They were decent stuff from what I've read. I just have a couple combination wrenches that I bought NOS when I was in Japan a few years ago.

My KoKen set of British Whitworth was purchased from a Triumph dealer in 1983 although it was manufactured in Korea. Came in a stamped red, metal case. Nothing too fancy, just got the job done. I've had several "Sears" hand tools which were made in Japan plus a Craftsman Industrial 4.5" grinder, also made there.

Ko-ken made in Korea!? Are you positively certain on that?

My father has some early '80's (I think) era Craftsman combo wrenches that are marked "Japan". I understand they may have been manufactured by KTC :dunno:

I bought a made in Japan SEK tools 3/8 72t flex curved handle ratchet today. I have a 3/8 round head 44t stubby flex that I like, really like the low back drag. The Jap stuff I have is top notch IMO. I'd love some KTC Nepros hand tools but they command a small fortune in my country.

Does KTC or somebody else make some decent flare-nut wrenches? I need to replace the SKs that my GF's POS son stole, and thought maybe there might be a Japanese brand that may be comparable or maybe even better.

Interesting to learn that Westward sourced their impacts from Ko-ken at one point. What's the date code on those sockets?

BTW, it's cool to see a local here. :)

Not sure about the date code, but they were purchased from a industrial tool/ parts store that carried Gray and Westward tools in the late 90's. That store also carried Sioux air tools. Good quality stuff

Yah, hi there. There are a few BC guys on Garage Journal

After reading a lot about Vessel screwdrivers and how great they are, I decided to pick a few up. I ordered the +1x75 and +2x100 Megadora 900 screwdrivers off Amazon. I used them yesterday and today and I have mixed feelings about them. The tips work really well and I like that they're magnetic. The knurled shaft is probably the nicest feature. The handles leave something to be desired IMO. I was using them all weekend in a new addition and updating an old kitchen. They do turn screws though.

Just goes to show how handle size/shape is such a personal preference thing. I could write your exact post word for word except I'd put "Snap-On" where you have "Vessel". But I think the Vessel tips are superior to S-O and SO doesn't offer knurled shafts & the S-O aren't magnetic... S-O does turn screws though...

Yeah, I have big ol' bear paws and a lot of drivers feel like little toys in my hands. Particularly in smaller sizes.

I concur - I just got a Megadora 900 P2x100. The tips fit very well and the knurled shaft is really nice, but the handle is going to take some getting used to. I like the feel of my standard issue hard handle Craftsman P2, which fits my small hand better, even though the tip leaves a lot to be desired. I've got a PB Swiss P2 coming, an impulse buy that I tacked onto an Amazon order. Looking forward to seeing what all the hoopla is over the Swissgrip handles.

SP Air made MACs air ratchets for many years including a number of exclusive designs. They didn't renew the contract recently though so all their signature sealed air ratchets are disappearing as they sell out. Very disappointed in that change. Use to be one of the signature tools of the brand. No idea what they're thinking.
