I just went to sears (San Diego) and they said they haven’t been replacing broken screwdrivers since mid 2017 because “they haven’t sent us any”. How do I get them replaced or are they garbage now? EVERYONE we dealt with was incredibly useless and a lower caliber employee than I would ever expect to work at McDonalds. It was aggravating to say the least

the Pro brand (RED-Black handle)has been out of stockfor about 1-2 years now..I was told they will never be back..they offered me the crappy clear plastic for a replacement. I just used the grinder to make a new tip on my old Pro screw driver.
And as far as the impact socket set you can get a better set at HF for $13(Sale)
So why bother with SEARS...it is the same china made stuff

Craftsman 9 pc. Metric Easy to Read Impact Socket Set, 6 pt. Deep, 3/8 in. Drive

$25 (regular price $52).

IMO pretty decent deal for the price, but lmk if I am wrong here. I may jump at this if I have enough points.

Do you need 3/8" drive?

The Evolv 1/2" drive sets (made in Taiwan) are often $19.99, and sometimes lower than that. I think $14.99 was the lowest.

Is that a full-line Sears store?

Last year, the nearest two Sears stores received similar-looking Chinese versions of the classic screwdrivers.

If you had a bunch my store was letting people buy the sets new and return the set with the broken ones. Unfortunately the sets are made in china now as well and the professionals are long gone around here.

Last month I got the GearWrench 3/8" Standard/Deep SAE/Metric kit w/ universal joint & extensions for $53 on Amazon. Even with the $50 back in points, I think I'd rather go GW. They are CR-MO, made in Taiwan, & I anticipate easier warranty swaps (at least once Sears goes away). The kicker for me, was that it included a 21mm deep which most sets/kits don't.

The Craftsman Metric 1/2" are on sale for $24.38 too, down from $59.99.

Exactly what kind of screwdriver? Some have been discontinued...

I think you can do exchanges at ACE Hardware stores... They usually have more in stock than Sears stores do...

Also, if a store doesn't have an item in stock for warranty, they *should* be able to order it for you to either pick up in store or ship to your home.

Craftsman 5pc Handle File Set is on sale online for $24.99, regularly $37.49. Great reviews, and one reviewer speculates that they are made by Nicholson.

Decided to use my bounceback coupon from my MLK holiday weekend in-store purchase on these. Reminder that if anyone else received one and hasn't used it yet, they expire on Jan 31, this coming Wednesday.

Picked up my file set today. Looks good, aside from a bit of scuffing on the storage pouch. There is a small white rectangular label on the back with what appears to be a faintly-printed date in July 2017, presumably the date of manufacture. If anyone happens to see a set with a later date, it could give an idea if Nicholson is still an active vendor for Craftsman or if Sears is just selling off what they have left.

Apex Tool Group owns Nicholson, and Apex dropping Craftsman would pretty much mean the end of the Sears tool department.

The Woodfield Mall store said they had screwdrivers in stock online and had been shipping warranty claims to home, at no charge.

Are the Illinois stores kept in better shape and have better staff?

It seemed like a lot of the people that reported seeing the new Craftsman Industrial tools in-store were in Illinois.

Maybe something to do with headquarters being in that state?

Oh dang. Hope not then! :eyecrazy: We've been talking about a lot of different suppliers; I didn't realize the rest was so concentrated in one company now.

Need? Not really, but I do not have deep 3/8 impact, and I am not seeing anything in that price range that I may want. I would love to get a Sunex set to match my 3/8 shallow impact, but they cost a lot more.

I do have the Evolv 1/2 drive set - I like them!

You may be on to something, I would say well over sixty percent of my Craftsman orders come from Illinois.

Most tool prices are still higher than normal, because the $50 cashback in points offer is extended thru 2/6.

I suppose that's true. Woodfield is less than an hour from Hoffman Estates.

Darn. :( Good news for anyone wanting to spend that much OOP though, the extended $75 OOP/$50 back tools deal is reportedly working on more products than the original version of it was (remember how it was claiming some products were eligible for it but not actually working on those in the cart, now it's working on those too), and it's allowing people who already did it once in the original timeframe (which ended Jan 28) to do it a second time now.

Real bad news for anyone that anticipated using that %40 when prices dropped back down. Glad I decided not to get what I didn't need already.

Yeah. But there are some good deals still hiding among the inflated-price tools, like the file set I got a few days ago at the lowest price I'd seen it at in the past year. Anybody stuck with some of those short-expiring points right now can probably still find something worth spending them on if they try. :)

The Knipex 125mm Pliers wrench is not inflated.
Bought 2.

Knipex plier wrench is awesome. I had to use mine over weekend and they make my life a whole lot easier.

Has anyone ordered Knipex plier lately? My last two order are snap ring plier and combination plier. They both arrived with just a thin plastic bag without the tag. I kinda expect them to be attached to these blue plastic tag since they are new (example below is not for plier). Maybe it is normal... was just curious..

Not really posting a deal, but maybe this helps someone getting some tools cheaper.

Wife got a new iphone last week. Find out that for a new device, if you install Sears app, it gives you $5 off $15 coupon. The coupon expires within 1 week (or maybe 2 weeks? sorry I forget the details). If you do not like Sears app, I am pretty sure you can uninstall it after you use the coupon.

I've heard that the Knipex products ordered through Sears are being shipped directly from Knipex (I have yet to order any myself; out of my price range, though very nice). Maybe they're leaving off the usual retail packaging so that it's easier to fit the pliers into a smaller package for shipping (the photo shows the packaging would stick out well beyond the length of the pliers itself). Are they shipping in a box, or just one of those Tyvek mailer bags?

I have heard mention of that before but haven't tried it myself yet. I think it was broken for a while, but started giving out the coupons again at some point in the past few months. I'll have to start trying it when planning to buy stuff that I don't already have another coupon or surprise points offer to use on. Supposedly you can get the app install coupon more than once; there might be a waiting period of some number of days before you get it again for another reinstall, I don't recall the details I read a while back. The mobile version of the Sears site when viewed in my phone's browser is terribly hard to use, so having the app might be worthwhile anyway... my phone is just very short on space.

Yes, you can absolutely uninstall the app afterwards. Just click and hold, wait for it to jiggle, and tap the X.

My last order, which arrived this afternoon, was in a box about the size of shoe box, which probably can fit 20 pliers with room to spare. I believe (this is my 6th kniplex) all my orders came in different size boxes instead of Tyvek mailer bag.

I am not complaining here, but it does makes me wonder if these are returned items. Both of them look like new though. I can not see any signs that they had been used.

I have received both styles in the various Knipex items I bought, but they are all new I assure you. Knipex offer many of its products 2 different packaging styles. One is bulk, and one is retail. Some items only ship one way. SBA indicates it will be in retail packaging. you also pay $1 more for the packaging

Good info.

I found examples of both types on Sears.com:
SBA: http://www.sears.com/knipex-9-1-4-in-end-nipper-pliers/p-00929116000P
non-SBA: http://www.sears.com/knipex-concretors-nippers/p-00932460000P

Witte comes from the same distributor too. So if you pair Knipex and Witte together to get to a pricepoint they will ship together for free.

Witte cork screwdrivers aren't inflated, I bought a set tonight...really running out of things to buy at this point. At 84 pairs of Knipex, all three sets of Witte screwdrivers, four sets of Wera screwdriver sets, two of the Wera security bit set and the kraftform 25 driver. Most of Milescraft and Kreg stuff available. Have most of the non-inflated Gearwrench stuff, think I have all the Nupla/Nupla-made dead blow hammers. Grip-On locking pliers, midwest snips...I'm seriously grasping at straws trying to spend points.

If you are close to Sears or Kmart, that open up a lot of possibilities. Back at the end of last year, when they were giving out $5 freecash every week, I was buying a lot of non-tools. Socks, gloves, several lbs of Christmas candies (great deal - they were on sale after Christmas!), toys, etc. I happened to be on a trip, and arranged all of these for pick-up at stores that I was passing by.

Before Kmart near me closed last year, we used to get paper towels and other household items. Nothing fancy, but every little things helps.

After growing up with Sears and Roebuck I can now accept the fact that this company may very well go the way of the dinosaur. This company is by far the most difficult to deal with. I've got money in-hand and STILL Sears will not take it! I have points to spend and found some tools I can use on their website BUT each set is either NOT available for shipping AND not available for store pickup within 100 miles.

I've gone into my local store 3X in the last few months to spend some Freecash that I have earned. Each time I go to the B&M store I come away with either inferior tools (they break the first use) or nothing at all. Each time I go in the place is so quiet I can hear crickets. Each time I ask when they are going to restock and am told that they ARE restocking ... but that corporate has made a business decision to minimize stock on-hand.

So, Sears, let me get this straight, you attempt to motivate me with Freecash that I have problems actually using because you either do not stock nor will not ship what you sell?

My local store (I was told) is the busiest store in the district ... and it is dead quiet. It is all quite sad ...
