Sears.com hot deals and clearance thread

not a sale unless you have points. Sears is the kohls of hardware stores. All their **** is too expensive, then they get a big shipment and put it at market price with a bunch of wind sock dancing tube people to try and get you to buy it.

Take advantage of the gimmicks but I don't think this is a special value. I'm pissed at Sears in case you didn't notice..grumble..grumble.

Sorry you're so frustrated with Sears, but it sounds like you're just complaining about their general practices and don't know these specific items' price history? I think these are not on sale very often, from what I've seen. Sears.com sells Yost vises too if someone wants one of those instead. Some still prefer Craftsman even though it's not what it used to be, and even if a sale doesn't make it the cheapest of that type of product in the country (but after points, for some of us, it would be).

Most people read/participate in this thread because they're trying to get stuff Sears sells as affordably as possible, usually using points. We are well aware that the company has many problems. A few people are already reluctant to post deals here because they're afraid of people jumping on their posts like that...

Wow, what a day. I had posted a week ago about being issued several price protection refunds to my credit card. Well, as it turns out, they only issued part of one of the refunds to my credit card, the rest were in points even though that's not what the emails said. And then the points didn't even show up! I had to use the chat support again today to get them to add the points they said they added a week ago.

To top it off, two of my orders were delivered today and they were both messed up in unique ways.

First delivery: Ordered the Channellock 8-inch long-nose pliers that were on sale for $16, and they sent me the Craftsman made-in-China 8-in long-nose pliers instead. The sticker they stuck onto the pliers and the packing slip both said Channellock pliers, even though they weren't.

Second delivery: Ordered the 2-piece Craftsman dead blow ("Power Drive") hammer set, and they sent only one hammer. The packing slip said it was a two piece set, and the plastic envelope even said "6 lb" as the shipping weight on the label. But there was only one 3-lb hammer in the package (the package had no holes or damage). No idea how they missed that the package weighed only half the weight on the shipping label.

 Wow, that is bad. Did those orders ship from individual stores rather than warehouses? They're more likely to make substitution errors like those at the store level, I think.

Great question! Story time. I ordered the Channellock pliers originally a few weeks ago and the next day got a call from a random Sears store on the other side of the country. They called to say that they received my order because their inventory system said they had 1 in stock, but it was wrong, and they asked if they could substitute the Craftsman pliers. I said, no thanks. They said there was no way for them to re-route the order, so the only thing they could do is cancel my order and then I'm free to reorder. I said fine.

Well, it took a week for the order to show up as canceled. I then reordered; fast forward another week or so and I receive my Channellock reorder today. It's the Craftsman pliers with a Channellock sticker... from the same store!

As for the hammer mishap, the return label says it's from "SEARS.COM DIRECT RETURN" in Naperville, IL.

I just got an envelope from that same address with a saw blade in it. It was supposed to be a tap & die set...

I'm getting a bit leery as well with points back and feeling like I need to spend them quickly before the inevitable.

I was in the same boat. I spent two days looking for something worthwhile to spend the points on. Most things I wanted (Eklind) were so over priced, the total basket cost wouldn't have been worth it. I was able to grab a pocket screw kit, but was pretty unimpressed when I really dug through things to look for good items.

A probably-storewide 10% off Friends & Family sale is supposedly coming up this Sunday, May 6. Should be in-store and online, but in-store it's applied as a coupon which means you can't combine it with other coupons/offers.

Yeah, I seem to have trouble spending a bunch of points. It looks like they raise all of the prices right after they do a big points back promo. I got a bunch of points when I bought the Metric XL double box end ratcheting wrench set and a couple of inspection mirrors last week, so I ended up just getting the SAE XL wrenches for about $20 out of pocket. I spent about $90 for both sets, so not too bad.

I haven't received the SAE wrenches yet but I really like the XL wrenches so far (haven't used them yet). Thanks to whoever posted about them.

I had similar happen... When I did the price protection I got an email with the total, and noticed some points refunded right away, I assumed the balance would be on my CC... I waited like a week and nothing. Chatted with support and just got them to put the balance as points...

Likewise the most recent time I just told them to credit it as all points since it's instant and I can verify I got them before I close the chat session... Seems too much of a gamble if they can actually process it as a CC refund...

Needing a pressure washer and found this with 100% back in points spread over 12 months..... http://www.sears.com/craftsman-0206...=13166739&utm_medium=1122587_4485850_13166739
With the way things are going I'm hesitant to spend $350 and getting $30 back per month over the next year. Only good for another day too.... decisions decisions decisions

That one seems to be on the low end side for gas models. Probably okay to pressure wash a fence, deck, or driveway. But you'll struggle doing anything more like a roof, house, or large concrete pad, or pool patio. I have a Craftsman one that is maybe a step up from that (or two steps up), and boy is it a struggle to pressure wash anything more than a wood fence or small driveway. Big jobs like a roof or pool patio can be done, but you'll be out there all weekend long and wish you would have gotten a higher end model with more power.

Excellent find -- thanks!

This looks nicer (leveling feet, doors) than the Sandusky cabinet of similar dimensions and steel gauge I recently bought off Amazon for $106.

I've been wondering if the dates are wrong in the ads, because the F&F events usually start in Sundays.

It's a little different than they've usually done, having an online-only day before the in-store+online day (which is usually also followed by a couple more online-only days), but they do seem pretty confident about it with the dates all spelled out in the image banner (vs just in text), so hopefully it will turn out to be correct. :)

Yes, I've heard NewAge makes very nice cabinets. There was a big thread about them a few months ago when Home Depot put a set on sale, https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378490 , which continued with discussion about how great they are and other places to buy them (I shared a link to Doohickey's post there).

Is $32 a good deal for 8in Knipex pliers? Sears has them "marked down" from $46 but that doesn't really mean anything

Knipex 1,000V Insulated Combination Pliers-1,000V Insulated
http://www.sears.com/knipex-1-000v-insulated-combination-pliers-1-000v-insulated/p-00932069000P

They are $32.99 at Sears.com at the moment. $32.00 is the current selling price for Knipex model 02-08-200 at both Amazon and Home Depot. You would need to order something else too, to get past the current $35 free shipping threshold. If you order today for the last day of the current 50%-back-in-points deal, you'd come out ahead overall using Sears.

Or is this NWS 8" better at $35 with free shipping? They won't be used a lot but I don't want junk from China.
https://www.ebay.com/p/NWS-109-69-205-High-Leverage-Combination-Pliers-CombiMax-205-Mm/1793260588

Either brand should be very nice. You can actually get the NWS from Ebay at a 15% discount (brings them down to $30.14), if you order and pay before 7pm PT / 8pm MT / 9pm CT / 10pm ET tonight: https://pages.ebay.com/promo/2018/0504/64619.html

Thanks Hexen. Can anyone tell me if the quality between Knipex and NWS is the same as far as hard cutting edges or grips that won't fall off?

They should both be very durable. Reading several Knipex/NWS comparison discussions on GJ and around the internet, some say NWS is sliiightly ahead of Knipex in quality. A bit tighter tolerances and a bit more aggressive teeth. I think you'd be happy with either of them, just have to decide if you want the smaller up-front price (if you order NWS in the next hour and a half on ebay) or the points to buy something else afterwards (if you order Knipex + something else from Sears in the next 4.5 hours tonight).

Thanks guys. I decided to go with the Knipex model. After points, it's only $16 and I like the added feature of the insulation.

Thank you for posting this. Unfortunately I got side tracked after adding one to my cart. I had planned to order 6 of them. Eventually the item said no longer available but it let me place and order for the one in my cart still. I assume it will most likely get cancelled. Anyone had any experience with something similar?

I like the Knipex a lot more, it cuts a lot nicer. Both are very good though, better than nearly everyone. I'd put the NWS with the high end Klein linesman, Knipex and Gedore are a bit nicer.

I wonder if this will work at my hometown store? Last time they did this it didn't give the option to pick up in vehicle, but right now I have a pending order that says, "Your Store Pickup order is eligible for free In-Vehicle Pickup." I don't think he has any special handhelds or anything...

Craftsman bar clamps are apparently back in stock. They haven’t been available to ship or in store for me for many months. They were previously made in Europe by Wolfcraft. Will be curious to see if they’re still from them.

I don't really see it working there, but you never know. Pull up to the front door, call Corey and tell him to bring your order out to you and see what happens. If the kid that wears the rebel flag hat is there, don't expect a lot. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and Corey told him the grass needed mowing. He walked up to me and asked me if I would like test drive a Craftsman mower. When I left he had mowed one strip of grass and parked the mower with a sign on it that said free test drives. Gotta give him credit for trying.

I don't understand Sears thinking on the store pickup. I see trying to make things more convenient for customers, but it seems like they would want to get people in the store so they will have a chance to buy more stuff.
