There might be some issue with online order processing this afternoon. Stuff like this (orders going into a black hole) has happened before, usually late at night, but it's been a while. Report on SD about 30 minutes ago:

"I just placed a whole bunch of orders from Sears using gift cards. I checked the order history after and the orders are not there! I never got a confirmation email, the orders are not in my history but the gift cards have been drained! What on earth is going on??"

Maybe just an isolated incident, but if you aren't in dire need of ordering online this afternoon, personally I'd either go to a store or wait (at least a few hours, preferably till tomorrow) to be safe.

My spark plugs wire pliers were for pickup beginning of March and they never came in. Bought them with $ from a gift debit card that is long ago used up and discarded, so if Sears eventually cancels my order, the refund will go into outer space.

I would chat with CS, and ask when will the pliers ready for pick-up. If they can not give you a date, ask for a refund in points since it has been delayed for a while. Tell them that I want to buy something else now.

In the case of Sears, hopefully your situation will be resolvable by getting it all refunded as points, but to avoid such situations in the future with other retailers, I recommend having a dedicated place somewhere to keep used gift cards until you're sure you won't need them anymore (have received everything purchased with them, and verified it's all in good shape). And I only do that with retailer gift cards that have to be used that way - general-use (Visa/Mastercard/American Express) gift cards get used for things I know won't need refunds, like paying utility bills online. (Then you can spend an equal amount of money out of your regular account on something fun if you want.)

Often with "black hole" orders, the order will show up later. It may be 15 minutes later, or 15 hrs later. At least, that's how it has been in my experience.

I learned the hard way to print screen the Order Number when you place an order, the very last screen.

Then, even if the order goes into a "black hole", you can still look it up on this screen by entering the order number and your email address. For some reason, orders will show here immediately when they don't show in your order summary screen. It might be because this screen somehow goes directly to the order number in the database or something.

This link was given to me one time when I was using the chat feature to find my black hole order. Lucky I had a print screen of the order, even though it didn't show in my history and I didn't get an email. This is some kind of back door that points directly to the order database. But you need to know your order number to use it.

Looks like this shorter version of the link takes you there too:

Lowest price I've seen on these, a repeat from a month ago when I bought them at this price: These 2 sizes are not in the 3pc set, and 1 is not available separately. (Correction: All are available separately again now, but the sets are a better deal. See details of all the models in this post.)

Craftsman 2 pc. 10" and 7" Locking Plier Set with Cushion Grips
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-pc-locking-plier-set-includes-10/p-00945712000P
$29.99 regularly, $19.45 online sale

Made a purchase in store this evening to use up my $5 off $5+ offer expiring today, had trouble making up my mind but decided on the Z-driver set...
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-11pc-z-driver-set/p-00942366000P
$14.99 regularly, $8.99 online sale, $9.99 in-store sale (got them to price-match the website)
...not the lowest price I've seen (was $7.49 a couple months ago), but other things I'd had in mind to buy this time weren't working out for various reasons and I decided I'd wandered around the store long enough. :p

More importantly, I was buying in-store because I'd heard bounceback coupons were being handed out all this week, and I scored on that! Got an $8 off $8+ good June 1-30, as well as a $4 off $20 tools coupon and a $7 off $35 offer good the next couple weeks.

Noticed they were showing a pair of the 8" USA linesman pliers at my hometown store on the Sears.com site... I had points going to expire tomorrow so figured why not since the F&F deal is going on...

Just for grins though, I checked the searshometown.com website too and as usual the older discontinued items were cheaper there...

Sears.com : $20.23
Hometown: $14.29

I didn't have any other coupons to use, just straight points so in this instance it was worth while for my to buy from the hometown site instead. :)

Funny enough this weekend at a garage sale I found the 10" older Professional USA version for $1.....

-The Great

Ha, nice. :) Note that the size alone doesn't uniquely identify them (whaaat, Sears.com having vague product names? never! ;) ), due to the different head shapes too; they also have different model numbers cast into the sides. I scrutinized them all in person when I bought the 3pk last year, to make sure of the 2pk being all different. IIRC there is a 10in in both, but with different heads. (Oh, and this is all regarding the current ones from China, dunno if they had the same shapes/sizes in the Pro USA period.)

Did anyone receive these. I placed the order Feb. 11 and was given the May 3rd date for arrival. I received the scribe early in April. I haven't received the hose clamp or plug wire puller. Sears says they are checking on it. Anyone receive theirs?

I ordered a few of those things around the same time.

Told me in May sometime as well.

That #(9)45714 comes up as Craftsman Curved Jaw 10 Inch Locking Pliers (model# 10WR).

The 10in straight jaw version is #(9)45715 on Sears.com ( http://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-in-pliers-locking-straight-jaw/p-00945715000P ), which has reviews complaining that the model number was reused and it took them their usual months-or-years-long time to get around to updating the product photo from the Pro USA photo.

Whichever one in the 2pk used to not be available separately when I was looking into these last year seems to have been brought back... still a better deal to get the sets, when you have enough points.

2pc set http://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-pc-locking-plier-set-includes-10/p-00945712000P has
#7R (7in straight jaw) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-in-plier-locking-straight-jaw/p-00945711000P
#10WR (10in curved jaw) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-in-pliers-locking-curved-jaw-with/p-00945714000P

3pc set http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-pc-locking-pliers-set/p-00945713000P has
#7WR (7in curved jaw) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-in-pliers-locking-curved-jaw/p-00945710000P
#10R (10in straight jaw) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-in-pliers-locking-straight-jaw/p-00945715000P
#6LN (6in long nose) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-in-pliers-locking-long-nose/p-00945716000P

And there's actually one more that's not in either set that I managed to overlook until now (I don't think my local store has a peg for it, ship to store only)... I need to add that to my upcoming purchases:
#5WR (5in curved jaw) http://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-in-pliers-locking-curved-jaw/p-00945717000P

I think the Chinese versions are still better than HF's locking pliers, even though reportedly not quite as good as the US versions were. I like their grips and the release design.

New deal for the rest of this week:

"Members get 30% CASHBACK in points on select Tools at Sears. Points awarded next day and valid for 7 days. Max 50,000 in points per member. Online only. Valid through May 12, 2018"

As always, that will be 30% of your OOP amount (after coupons/offers/points). Looks like it's just about everything in the tools department, despite saying "select"; I checked a couple random Craftsman items and a Knipex item.

Wasn't it just 50% back in points? Seems not as good.

Yep. At least it's something, if you were going to be buying something online with OOP the next few days anyway.

Oh, also, this might be combinable with the "Use In-Vehicle Pickup and get $10 CASHBACK in Points when you Spend $10 or more" (OOP) deal that runs through this Sunday - spend $10 OOP and get a total of $13 back, if all goes well.

Do you have to have picked the item up by Sunday to get this deal? I have one Sears left in the area and it seems like everything I want has a shipping delay for in store pickup.

What's the difference between the Craftsman 7in red rafter square and the non-red one? The non-red one seems better priced and made in USA. Thanks in advance.

I'm grateful for the low price or nearly free stuff that I get from Sears, but I have a hard time understanding their system, and their terrible website works against them.

I had about $16 in points yesterday with some expiring, and a $5 off of $5 offer in freecash expiring for a total of $21. I thought I would buy an optivisor for my daughter to use in craft stuff. It's priced as $34.95, just short of the $35 free shipping. So, thought I'd add a new bike lock to the mix. It's about $10, but when I add it to the cart, it adds $6.98 shipping, and $1.39 in sales tax. I'm in Oregon, no sales tax. The bike lock is from Kmart, so it should be in the free shipping, and it shows up that way in the search, but not in the cart. So, I remove those two items, and pull up a $24 6 ton hydraulic jack from my saved stuff. It ships to store free to my local franchise store, no $35 limit. So, I order it, and pay $3 out of pocket. Would have bought the optivisor and lock for $25 or so OOP, if their website would have worked. I've had this happen numerous times; I just leave stuff in my saved and try it later, eventually it usually works, but sometimes they triple the price instead and I delete it.

Their website behavior and pricing seems almost random, and definitely not designed to make them money and generate sales.

Anyone know if Ace Hardware will price match Sears online prices for Craftsman products?

It really depends, but the vast majority of the time they won't right off the bat if you ask. Remember every ACE is different as they are franchises. Some are helpful and nice, bending over backwards to earn your business over cheaper Walmart and HD, and others literally lock all their tools in a back room that they won't let you enter at all, only pull out specific tools by request, or send two armed guards back there with you if you want to look. So you have to employ strategy, just like Sears.

Here's what it depends on (in my VAST experience of hitting many many ACE hardwares scooping up all the NOS USA I can find)

A successful price match will involve one or more of the following:

-Larger chain of Ace Hardwares (One owner, 3 or more stores)

-The person at the register is under 35, and female

-You buy several items, spending over $100

-You point out that the item is in stock today, for local pickup, at your local Sears

-The Sears item isn't ridiculously discounted. They usually can't/won't discount by more than 40%. Their system actually won't allow it, and most all items they make 50% profit by selling, they don't want to loose money

-You try to get ahold of the store's actual owner prior to visiting the store. Have a facebook? Look up your local Ace. If they are a chain they will have a social media page. Contact them on there and ask if they price match. They will say yes 99% of the time. It's social media after all, their goal is getting you in their store instead of someone else's.

Simply get the name of the person that told you they price match, (Usually the daughter/son of the owner, or a co-owner), and name drop like crazy when they try to deny you in store. I actually basically dare them to deny me with this in my back pocket. Nothing like the expression on the lowly but entitled store manager's face when they find out you have it in writing from the owner they price match and they have to go along or you are reporting them by name, in real time, right on Facebook messenger! I've seen it all go down in real time, message Ace boss, and instantly floor manager gets a call/chewed out for not matching the price/respecting the customer. Ace has a direct chain of command due to franchise status, the boss/owner is the direct position of authority over everyone on the floor, they can and will fire at will, I've seen it. Most owners know they charge more in exchange for good service and if the people they hire don't provide it, they are unceremoniously let go. If only HD worked that way...

Finally if they are really being difficult, or you prefer a non confrontational approach, ask about their return policy on tools in brand new, fully sealed, unused condition. "I am not sure this has all the sizes I need, can I return if I don't open/use it and it doesn't have my size?" They will usually O-K it if you phrase it this way, because they figure they can just sell you the other size if it doesn't work out. Then when you go back say you need some bizarre size they don't have, like a 20mm deep 1/2. You can always buy at Sears and return to Ace. But beware, about 50% of Ace Hardware's have a draconian no returns ever policy. How these guys stay in business with a big box store in every town and return friendly Amazon a click away I have no idea.

I think that the only reason a bunch of us is still shopping at Sears is the free/nearly free items. That is why we tolerate their horrible and outdated website plus the constant confusion for applying bonus and points.

Pretty sure you just have to place the order while the offer is in effect. The fine print claims "Order must be picked up within 30 days from date of order." which is plenty of time for all but the crazy-long-delay-for-everybody items.

"High-Visibility"

The markings do appear to be easier to see on the red one. Don't know if they'll rub off in the long run.

Extech BR80, rebranded as Craftsman. Might be good for a backup:

Craftsman Borescope $54.20 ($44.20 after coupon)

Free S&H, or ship-to-store.

Not a Hot Buy, so use a $10 off $50 tools coupon from RetailMeNot.

Amazon
HD

spin_prod_886274812

I've eyed this a few times over the years when it goes on sale.

Anybody have one? A Craftsman for a price cheaper than HF, I'm thinking to bite on this.

I could have really used this the last few weeks when I was running three 60 foot runs of 6-2 Romex through a crawlspace in my house for a tankless water heater.

I use mirrors all the time working on engines in the cars, I'll bet this would be good for that purpose as well.

You can get some more opinions of it under the Extech brand:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00APD0IJ0/?tag=atomicindus08-20
And a user demonstrating it:

Most importantly note to be careful when changing batteries, as these have no protection against reversed polarity.

I wish I could find a picture of the connector pin-out. I have like 24 ft of Ridgid extensions from years ago and I'd love to find a camera that works with them

The bike lock is from Kmart, so it should be in the free shipping, and it shows up that way in the search, but not in the cart.

The other item was sold by Sears, correct? You can't combine items from two stores to get free shipping, you have to hit the threshold with products from one store. Most websites are like that, they don't allow you to mix and match.

Sometimes you can find the same item at both stores so you may be able to order everything from one store and get the free shipping.

I don't, but I do have one I bought for $15 on Amazon or Ebay that works as well. The USB type for the phone or laptop work even better and cost less, if you don't have to have the screen on the device. The much longer cable (20') is also more useful

A picture is not enough - even if the connectors physically fit, it may damage the device to use a miswired cable. To the best of my knowledge there is no standard for wiring on these.

I got a call from my hometown, they didn't have the USA linesman pliers... :(

I told him just to cancel it, no big deal... He calls me later saying it won't let him refund the points and next time I'm in the store he can give me cash... lol... Oh well, I'll probably end up spending it there anyhow...

That was the item you ordered on searshometown.com, right? So you can spend points on the Sears Hometown site, but not earn them; and when something goes wrong, they have no way to reverse the points transaction, but can give you cash (presumably since Sears already gave the guy's store that much money). Good to know.
