I think they stopped offering the old card that could only be used at Sears years ago. They've been doing the SYW 5-3-2-1 Mastercard card run by Citibank for several years (the press release says 15 years, but I think for the first 10+ years it was side-by-side with the store-only card). This announcement is just like a signing bonus for renewing the contract between Sears and Citibank. I think under normal terms, retailer-branded credit card agreements have the bank running it pay the retailer an ongoing 'performance-based' percentage (the more customers use the card, the more money Sears gets from Citibank), but Sears is taking a couple years away from the 'performance-based' model now to get a guaranteed lump-sum payment up-front to fund their store operations for a little while longer.

Not a huge sale, but here's what I decided to go with for this week's $5 off $10 offer I got.

Irwin 6 in. "V" Jaw GrooveLock Pliers
https://www.sears.com/irwin-6-in-v-jaw-groovelock-pliers/p-00929363000P
$12.99 regular price, $11.53 sale price

I have the matching 8in straight-jaw model from the Lowe's 'trade-up' promo years ago.

I went with the Metric Open End Ignition Wrench Set for $11.36.

I got that Dickies Mini Mug Boss I ordered a couple weeks ago 'installed' today... I found a freebie plastic cup (some business promo item) that it fit well on; it doesn't need to be a ceramic mug with a handle. Works nicely to get a few pens/pencils/markers more organized/visible that I grab subsets of to put in my pocket depending on where I'm going / what I'm doing. I was often having one end up under something else on my desk when I needed it.

Cashier was still trying to get me to sign up for the Sears-only credit card on my last visit:

I can't even fathom getting the standard Sears charge card when they can barely even hold their internal store processes together. I've seen lots of stories online of random credit events showing up on people's FICO as a result of just having a Sears card. Sounds like a good way to blow my tier 1 credit to pieces for the sake of a few shop your way pennies.

With this new scheme of Citi involved it should be much better, but they are known to be a difficult credit card company to deal with as well when issues arrive.

The best card for shopping Sears is always the one with the easiest charge back process. Every time they refuse to refund the amount originally charged for a significant amount of money, I file a claim. I doubt a Sears card would be as receptive and they would likely count the SYW points as cash/refund where as a normal card considers them Monopoly money and makes sure you get the actual amount you paid back in full, in real money.

No matter how good the perks are, I don't think Sears makes sense to tie yourself to financially in any way that can impact your credit long term. They always push card sign ups for some trivial amount of cash and I have to laugh. Turn my SS number over to a company that won't make the end of the year, and tie my credit to them for the next 5+ years in exchange for $20...I have to laugh.

I got the Sears Platinum credit card a long time ago (now SYW MC), and my FICO score is in the 800's.

Are you saying my score will drop if Sears folds and I still have the SYW MC card?

EDIT: I thought Discover card was one of the best for Sears.com. For many years their cashback portal would fluctuate between 5-10% cashback for Sears.com, and it even awarded the cashback when you paid completely with reward points.

Hey Doohickey, how did your situation turn out with the 'digital protractor'? And how much did you pay for it last month?

General Tools 5-inch Digital Angle Finder with Analog Ruler (Model #822)
http://www.sears.com/general-tools-5-inch-digital-angle-finder-with/p-00903484000P

Thanks. I got it for $16.03 (before coupon): General Tools UltraTECH™ Pro-Angle Digital Protractor

Took a while to hear back from General Tools, but I eventually got a reply letting me know they forwarded my feedback.

Sears offered to set up a return and a new order. They had some technical problem re-ordering it, so customer service just refunded it without having to return the item. Sears will be Sears.

5% back in points on eligible purchases made at gas stations;
3% back in points on eligible purchases at grocery stores and restaurants;
[5% and 3% back on the first $10,000 of combined eligible purchases made annually on gas, groceries and restaurants and 1% thereafter]
2% back in points on eligible purchases made at Sears and Kmart; and
1% back in points on all other eligible purchases.
... "

Usually they give you the most reward points for shipping at THEIR stores. They must realize they don't have enough selection to woo people in with that.

They started their Memorial Day sale, but their tool deals are meh . Most of the tool prices are the same week after week, so maybe they want to focus more on "cashback in points" deals these days.

Well, at least I can browse the site properly, after that mess on Sunday.

Oh, wasn't the one I thought. Well, I'm thinking about ordering the one I linked to, despite your imperfect experience and the hands-off manufacturer, and the fact that it's been at least $3 cheaper before. Haven't pulled the trigger just yet though. I have a $4 off $20+ I need to use today, and it's another price point where I'm having a hard time finding very many options I still need/want at a not-too-inflated value right now, trying not to go too far over the minimum since I have so many offers in close proximity. I kept hoping they'd change up the sale prices some this week, but they haven't yet. I also need to come up with a $25+ item by Saturday. :headscrat

Update: I decided to order it ( http://www.sears.com/general-tools-5-inch-digital-angle-finder-with/p-00903484000P ). Not great knowing the price had been lower enough before that it basically cancels out my coupon, but maybe it'll go down again in the next month and I can get the price adjusted, and I couldn't come up with anything I had more use for at the right price right now.

Tonight I finally extricated one of the two Craftsman Mach T-handle drivers from its package, that I got a couple months ago. Good grief, what a pain in the ***. I've opened a lot of plastic packages over the years, but these just might be the worst. After trying several approaches (trying to not have to get too close to the tool), I ended up using the little snips in the Craftsman folding multi-tool, making a bunch of small cuts in from the edge around the edges, and then cutting off chunks of the edges between those cuts. Just in case it helps anyone else who's bought these and been putting off dealing with them. Great tools once you can actually use them.

Hose pinch pliers came back in stock for me. Just placed an order. Shipping them as I dont want them to get stuck in ship to store hell like my spark plug pliers that were finally canceled and all points never came back.

Just looking to use some points before they expire I decided to get the boroscope (currently $54.20). Coupon code SEARS5OFF50 worked to drop $5. Haven't managed to find a working generic code like that for a while. Just thought someone else might be looking for a small discount.

I ordered one of the pliers too yesterday and already got a tracking number and supposed to be here tomorrow!

Something is up, Sears is never that fast. Even though I've had the SYW trial forever, it's funny because only like 1 in 10 items will ever allow me to do the 2-day max shipping. I have no idea what their methodology is, it's just Sears...

I'm going to order a second pair of the hose pinch pliers, got one during the first round. But it would be good to have two pair for things like radiator replacements, one for upper hose, and one for lower hose.

I got the boroscope last week. I've already used it several times. It's the kind of thing that once you have it, you use it a lot more than you would think. I haven't picked up an inspection mirror since I got the boroscope. No more fumbling around holding a flashlight in one hand, and a mirror in the other.

How's the focal length on those? Can it see distances clearly or can you only see items that are like 2 inches away?

It can't see distances, there is no adjustment for the focus. The focal length is fixed at like 2-3 inches. It has a sharp focus at 2-3 inches, then will start to get fuzzy from about 3-5 inches (but still visible), more than about 5 inches it would be so blurry you can't see what you are looking at.

0-2 inches - Fuzzy, but visible.
2-3 inches - Sharp Focus.
2-5 inches - Fuzzy, but visable.
More than 5 inches - So blurry you can't see anything.

There is a 1-day-only "online flash sale" going on today on a few dozen specific items sold by Sears (and hundreds of third-party seller items), but none of the participating Sears items/prices seemed worth mentioning, and some I know for sure were already at that same price earlier this week.

Please report back when you get these.

I had the roll pin punches in my saved list for a couple months after they went out of stock. They're back in stock now. Instead of Western Forge, made in China.

Sears totally 'blew up' their relationship with Western Forge around this time last year, IIRC. They've been gradually converting all former Western Forge-made products to Chinese suppliers. Anything previously from WF that hasn't been converted yet, or for which the Chinese factory has been struggling to fulfill, is unavailable except at the small number of stores (usually Hometowns - and non-Sears stores like Ace) that still have some of the old ones left.

It's certainly possible for any other products from other US manufacturers to be changed to China too at any time, but it's not a sure thing like it is with WF stuff. These particular hose pinch pliers were, and hopefully still are, being manufactured by one of the 'tool truck' brands (I forget which, might have been Mac) so they are hopefully unchanged.

I went to Sears to order the Hose Clamp Pliers at the Kiosk so that I could get free shipping to home, rather than store pickup. But the Kiosk wouldn't let me apply ShopYourWay points to the order. It still gives free shipping to home from the Kiosk, but you have to pay the full price for the item. Doesn't allow you to use points.

Is this something new? I always have been able to use points before. These are regular Points, not any kind of FreeCash type points or other type limited offer points. Straight up Points aren't working on the Kiosk.

When you click "apply points" at the Kiosk, it doesn't apply your points, and makes you pay full price. I'm not sure if this is something temporary and screwy with the Kiosk today, or if Sears has changed policy or something.

Also, the Tool Department is EMPTY. And I mean EMPTY. Just empty floor space, filled up with sheds and lawn mowers. Barely any tools left. You can hardly even call it a tool department anymore. Sad.

I placed an order entirely in points yesterday at an in store computer. I'm pretty that may have been a glitch. It has happened to me at home and what I did was order from shop your way instead.

One thing that causes points not to apply sometimes is that there are, for no apparent reason, a few specific dollar amounts at which the system does not let you apply points. If you happen to be hitting on one of the unlucky dollar amounts, try reducing the points to be used by a few cents, and then it will usually work.

Regarding the pinch pliers and spark plug wire pullers... I ordered both back in February with a delivery date in March. A couple of times the date was pushed out... and then, last week, no ETA. I was going to contact Sears this weekend and ask for a refund... but, this morning, I get an e-mail saying something like "We received your inquiry regarding Order nnnn... and we've issued you a check in the amount of $10.nn... which you should receive within 10 days..."

That's great... except I didn't contact them.

Still, assuming I get the check... I'm happy to trade points (I paid in points) for cash.

I already have a pair of the pinch pliers I bought back in 2017... they are work well... so if they're available again, it's not a bad use of your points.

Maybe they are going to actually send you a check, but FWIW someone on SD said today that they got a "you're getting a check" email but received points back instead. Or who knows, maybe a check will show up weeks later in addition to the points refund!

:lol_hitti Good point, I didn't even think about that when I read his post the first time, lol. Go now or go later. ;)

I think it was so he could get free shipping without spending $25. A lot of stores don't charge shipping if you end up ordering from one of their in-store Kiosks. Kohls is another example

I received a similar email. It said I was being refunded $0.86 to my account. Should be at my financial institution in a couple days. For points talk to customer service. They had already refunded my points, although I wish it was all cash like you may get.

I got that email Sunday regarding the hose pliers saying I was getting a check, received points today. Was also hoping for cash.
Edit I paid entirely in points to begin with.

I know, but the point was that he had to go to the store to place the order at the kiosk to get the item shipped to his home. Instead, he could have gone to the store a week or two later to pick up the item after having it shipped to the store. ;) Doing the kiosk thing doesn't make as much sense when it's not a ship-to-home-only item.

oops. missed that it was ship-able to store. In that case, I'd rather pass on using their lovely kiosks.

Just picked up a bunch of goodies at Kmart, and got some free cash for June. Maybe if I can find another reason to take me that way, I'll head back, but it will be hard to get me to go back.
While there, I found out pet food/supplies are grocery. I know some stores do consider the food grocery, but Kmart had a offer that specifically called out grocery & pet supplies on one, and grocery on the other. One would think they were separate, until it is rung up and your $10 offer isn't applied.
I was reluctant on my return as the girl rang up my new items, figuring their computers wouldn't be so smart & apply the offer, but it was, and credited the proper amount of base points back.

OXO silicon honeycomb measuring cup is great (was only $7 in store). One item I could use another of for the garage.

I'm surprised the hose pinch pliers still look available for shipping and price is still $19.99...

I got an email yesterday that the hose pinch pliers are on the way to the store. I also see in my order status screen a status of "In Transit". So it looks like it is on its way.

If anybody wants these, better get them now. I'd suggest getting two pair, these are really nice, best hose pinch pliers I've ever seen.
