1/2: WOW & WOW that is a fantastic start to the Rover engine rebuild. nothing like shiny aluminum to make you (and us) smile.

best of luck with the rest of it and since you've already done one similar maybe some of the issues you had on the last one are etched in a book or in your head so they won't be an issue this rebuild.

hope you are feeling better and getting the "P" out of your system too.

Happy New Year Steve. Nice job on the heads.

Bobby like wise I trust yours is a good one as well.

Many thanks on the cylinder head:thumbup: I am pretty happy with it thus far.

Drives, many thanks:thumbup::thumbup:

There is a lot of hours in doing just the cylinder head modification alone and the past few days I have just been pottering in the shed doing just that. This one has been a lot easier as I have tooled up a little better with lessons learned on the last one.

My first attempt at a Rover K Series a couple of years ago.

It knocked out some serious HP . I hope this does the same.:3gears:

I have a GP appointment tomorrow just for a medication review then more bloods and scans in a couple of weeks. My Lymph's have been acting up a bit and I need to get to the bottom of that too.

FYI we are looking at a forecast temp of 113 F here tomorrow maybe I can send some your way..:shocking:

1/2 Cup,
All the best wishes for your continued treatments. Once again very nice work on the Rover head. Please do send some of that heat over to us. I would be very ready for an early spring this new year.

Don't send any of that heat this way, despite what Bob says. ;) It's winter and so far all we've really had is cold rain and mud. I hope everything clears up soon.

Haha, Ok I will admit we are having a mild winter for a change and I'm good with that.

Hopefully 1/2 Cup has that air conditioner working to keep his shed cool during the hot weather.

You could eat of that it is so clean. All the best for tomorrow. I have just been making sure I have all my hoses ready in case of a fire.

HOTFR8 I like clean:thumbup::thumbup:
Its a bit past midday now and our outside temperature has already hit the 40 C / 104 F:shocking:

Nice job on the kettle head 1/2. Yes, make sure to get the lymph's checked out.

BTW, we are at -3°C here. Would you like some? Brrrrrrr......…

Dan thank you:thumbup:

I have just had a GP visit this morning to check the lymph's out, so its more bloods tomorrow morning and we will await the outcome next week.

Thank you Bob

I would be quite happy for a 50/50 heat exchange at the moment:thumbup:

Bob I am pleased to hear you are having a mild winter:thumbup: Personally I hate the cold but I wish we could have mild summer for a change.

Putting the air conditioners in the shed was one of the best investments I have ever made and it is really earning its keep of late..

Drives the two weeks off work were fantastic and as per usual went to quick. The cylinder head is now ready to be machined, new valve guides& oversized valves fitted, valve clearances done and combustion chamber CCed. So thats another out of the way.

My next scan and bloods is in just over a week, this one will be a full contrast scan from head to toe. Things are starting to settle down and the side effects of some of the medication are starting to subside bit by bit with the only real issue I have right now is my neck lymph node are a little enlarged which I am expecting they will also shrink when i am totally off the steriods ( they were for the pneumonitis if you remember ).

We are in for what looks like a weeks worth of real hot weather and I am just so pleased that the shed and the home are well catered for in terms of air conditioning.

With just a not to file our solar system is peforming exceptionally well now averaging between 40 and 50 kwh daily so apart from the service charges on our power account we are nearly level ******* which is just fantastic..:thumbup:

Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend..

I could definitely use a few of those degrees if you can spare them....... :)

Hope things with your neck nodes gets back to normal and the next tests show improvements. Glad your AC is working and the solar sounds like it is paying for itself for sure.

Good news Steve. I often wish I could have gone into medicine. Would have been nice to work on something success would have made a real difference on. On the other hand, failure would have been devastating. Guess God knew enough to keep me out of the operating room. Glad to see His own hands are at work here.

Hoping the full scan comes back clear for you. How long do you think it'll take you to clear out all of those engines?

Glad to hear the good report 1/2 Cup both from the medical side and from the Shed. No air conditioning here except what mother nature provides and we're currently in a bit of a freeze cycle. The freezing cold somehow does not make me want to work in the barn on really cold steel so other projects rise to the top of the list. But, I'm glad (as I imagine so is Andrew) that you are making progress on those heads and engines.

Any further news on the potential flathead V-8? Sorry if I missed a previous post.

Strouty believe me if I could send you some degrees I would early afternoon here now at a balmy 99 f.:shocking:

One lymph node on my neck still has not improved much at all but the one under my arm pit has subsided markedly. My GP said I just have to keep an eye on it until my Oncologist gets back from holidays in a week and a bits time.

It is just so nice to have the shed temperature at 75 F it is a great environment to work in with out having to worry about the running costs..

The meds settling down is great, as are the solar outcomes.

Hewey things are going well pretty much all round.

Bobby many thanks:thumbup:

Medicine would be an interesting field to get into for sure and as you say it would be very rewarding at times and at others it would break your heart.
That said I don't think it would be for me, I will stick to just being a patient at the moment and be one of those success stories .

xtremek me to
My next scan is only just over a week away now and get the results two days after it.
I have at least another thirty - forty hours work on the next cylinder head ( No 3 ) which arrived today and that will be it for a while so I can hopefully put a few of those hours into the Model A

Bob many thanks.

You should invest in a split system, working with mother nature is not real conducive to getting things done in the shed..:shocking:

The No. 2 head left this morning for machining and the No. 3 head took its place so there is never anything not to do around here let me tell you.

No news on the flatheads to date as the guy that is managing it all has been
away on holidays till now. We are expecting to hear in the next week.

Thank you one and all, have a great week end.

Nice job on the heads! Those are some of the cleanest heads I have ever seen  Northeast Indiana is being hit with some really cold temps, send some of that heat this way!

Wishing you all the best on the doctors visits, keep on keeping on!

1/2: I bet you are smiling after you shine one of those old Rover engine blocks up aren't you? any chance you might be able to post a few pictures of the tools you use to do this and maybe the type of mask you wear too?

I'm still sending prayers your health improves and sounds like you've got plenty of heat if you need it and a comfortable shop to work in too.

have a great weekend!!

Drives yes I am very happy with the way the cylinder heads have turned out:thumbup:

These are some of the basic tools I use in the port and polish process.

View media item 89761
Air die grinder, air drill for low speed work, carbide burrs, mounted points, abrasive flap wheels of different grits and scotch polishing wheels.
I need to replace the electric die grinder at some point.

In terms of safety gear it is just the basics, a full face shield so I can wear my glasses, ear muffs and industrial work gloves.

Its another hot one here today but we are coping very well.
Many thanks for your thoughts and prayers:thumbup:

Thank you one and all, I trust your weekend is going well.

Happy new year Steve!

Love the lift table. Wonder if it is the same on as in my wishlist. Worm drive chain lift is neat. I have seen one like that in a farm shed over here and wondered where it came from. :)

Great work on the ports! We've been getting unusually hot highs from Oz over the last two weeks. I purchased myself a garage fan for Christmas and it has been one of the best things I've done this year. Yesterday was well over 30C and very high humidity. Got about 4 hours welding done without a problem or sweat dripping in my eyes all the time.

xtremek you are right the aluminum does tend to plug up the burrs, I use WD40, Kerosene and anti cease compound for the most part it is not a wholistic solution but it works.

Just take care in the garage it does get ****** hot in there. :shocking:
Lots of fluids and pace your self.

We don't get the humidity like you guys get at times its more a clean heat.

Any thing you can do to make it a pleasurable working environment it is worth every dollar you spend.

Steve, I think you would make a burned dinner look good too if you plated it up and photographed it.

The shiny stuff, Engineering and various projects you share always look so good and tidy.

Or maybe you really are just that good at it all.

Love this thread, like so many others.

1/2: thanks for the 411 (we used to dial 411 and get a live operator to give us information before the days of the computer) on your tools of the trade so to speak.

looks like you are very ORGANIZED and it looks like maybe one of the items is a bulk new buy type item in the plastic sack? is that a round ball type grinding wheel and maybe your go to bit for getting inside all the holes?

keep up the good work and it really sounds like you have your AC dialed in your Shed Downunder while your Aussie mates are melting. WELL DONE SIR!!

have a great week even if you might have to pop in to work a few days.

cheers

Drives, any time:thumbup:

I do like every thing to have a place and be in its place where I can. Yes I do like to buy in bulk where I can the things in the plastic bag are scotchbrite final polishing pads on mandrels.

It has been a rather long spell of 100+ heat but I am lucky that I have not been out in it too much and have great air :thumbup:conditioning both in the home, shed and work:thumbup:

My Oncologist is just back from holidays overseas and on the basis of a blood test I had for my GP ( my doctors share the results ) summoned me for an appointment as my lymph nodes have been giving me some grief over the past few weeks.
So the long and the short of the appointment she brought forward my bloods and full body scan that was scheduled for next week and admitted me after that to hospital straight away to get it sorted out. I should be out to get some QST by Saturday.
She is looking to start on some low dose [BChemotherapy[/B] very soon as I responded very well last time.
All is good.

1/2: you never seem to post like you are not feeling well or that you are sick at all and I know you've been going through a lot these past couple years so still sending prayers and wishing you the best.

with your attitude it sounds like your Dr. upgraded you to SPA privileges and beer in the hospital is a first for me.

keep on smiling and glad to hear your health is improving while you are getting some R&R at the hospital.
