Funny you mention parking lot. With all the machine traffic today, I thought I might need center line stripes to keep everything in order.

The task today was to move the new mill in its place, but first I had to move the current lathe out of the way so I could move the lathe that’s going to be sold. Talk about Tetris!!

Current locations.

I moved a Lista to its spot too. This cab will be storing the bigger lathe and mill pieces, drill bits and whatever else I can stuff in there.
So, are you all ready? I found this rare stuff after I finished moving things around.

Floor space!!!!
The green Kennedy’s, lathe to the left will be going away, the grey cab to the left will go to its spot.
The plan is slowing coming along.
Here’s the layout.

The ribs look almost as good as the shop!

I am toying with making a wheeled base for my mill, the way I see it, the mill doesn’t need to be level like a lathe, but not sure if it would be locked down while using it or just let it sit on wheels? How is yours setup? Maybe some detail pictures?

Strouty,
I’ll get some close ups in the morning.

The base is heavy wall angle, the casters are outboard of base and it’s only about 3/8” off the ground.

I was thinking of just welding 3/4” nuts on the outside and just use bolts to take strain off casters. The PO used just like it is.

Craig, that’s what I did for my base. I drilled through the tube of my mobile base and added nuts top and bottom to guide the all thread rod. Thirty seconds with an impact gun and it is locked down with the advantage of being able to level it out if needed.

I think that is a great idea, I have a table that had similar adjustments on the feet. I also need to do the same thing on a vertical bandsaw, I would have done it a while ago, except it is a funny shape and just seemed like it was going to take more effort than I wanted to put forth. I left it on 4x4s and just used the pallet jack when I had to move it.

Attacking the other corner of shop, moved the bandsaw out and discovered I never finished putting the relay back together.
It uses a latching relay for the start/stop switch, I changed the relay from 220 to 120, about three years ago???

Why do I do stuff like this?

Wow, What’s all that gray stuff in the picture? That can’t be the floor can it? Probably finding a lot of stuff you forgot about. Well it looks great and not a Olympic obstacle course no more. LOL Keep up the good work.

Craig I think once I get my shop built and find out all the things I'm missing, I'll just give you a shopping list and turn you loose.

I've been lucky past few months:beer:

I'm just thinking of all the mill bits I've left because I thought I'd never have a mill.

I'd be glad to help out.

You need to mark your calander for Feb 19-22 and come by Flywheelers. Your cart would be perfect.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.... circling back to your mill.... I kept looking at your mill and I kept thinking that base looks familiar...... then it dawned on me.... I built this one for my drill press.... I have to say it’s hell getting old....

Mack, I think you’d find everything on your list plus some just by visiting Craig’s shop. Lol.

Craig is definitely great at coming across the things you need. He accounts for 80% of my new stuff and Gerard-Andrew for the remaining 20%

I translate this into "it's Craig's fault" in his wife's eyes.:lol_hitti

It was just a few Vidmars, a couple bandsaws, buffer, a two piece drill press, a few other things..........:bounce:

Accomplished a little more towards the plan, a lot more in general. What I’m doing this time is trying to deal with whatever I touch, within reason, and make it where I don’t touch it again. ( at least in this session). It’s been a little slower going, but I don’t have a sea of floatsam after I’m done.

Here’s the targeted corner.
IMG_3410.jpg
2978f35c79edabfde295ec3a14057059.jpg
I stopped to work on the bandsaw as I mentioned earlier, and I marked up the mobile base so I can cut and weld it up to size.
Here’s where I left off, another cab in its final spot.
IMG_3424.jpg
94a97fde2fca207e15ce5c0e7497da83.jpg
I know it don’t look like much in the pictures.
And look, more clear space.
IMG_3454.jpg
474804d53b325f8bb3b4b94719686841.jpg

I need to sell the first Lathe and a few other items, along with the 4’x8’ welding table and then the space will really start appearing.

Have a great Thanksgiving all.

It might not look like much but for the people who had opportunity to visit your place know it’s a huge improvement. Your making great progress.

Andrew is correct, never a shortage of adult beverages.

Not a bunch of new stuff to report. I can walk all round that corner of shop now, full access to the machines.

I continued to pick at the small stuff, started a drawing in the Lista cab for lathe/mill stuff.

I had a opportunity to pick up some aluminum stairs/ landings, these are for construction trailers. All have been damaged and not worth repair.

I’m breaking down to use the landings for a mini loft in the shed.
IMG_3551.JPG
IMG_3587.jpg
Adjustments.jpg

Each landing is 40” x5’. I have three of them, and of course each one is a different thickness. Oh well.

My plan is to bolt them together end to end, run a piece of 4” aluminum channel on the front edge, this will span the width of the shed. The back edge will be directly attached to the shed frame.

So this will be going on in the background as I’m continuing on the shop plan.

One of my next items in shop is to sell my 4’x8’ x3/4” weld table. It’s just too big for my space.

I’m building a 3’x5’ table which will fit the area well.

The 4x8 serves more to be a flat spot for stuff to accumulate.

How much the weld table? Can you add legs? 3/4” is short even for me.

I agree 3/4” might as well be on the floor.

Oh my word!

Ok, to clarify, the 3/4” is the top thickness, take my word that it’s much higher than 3/4” off the floor, as there’s plenty of stuff under it.
63463e659ab7373ccd0d6776c380c80a.jpg

It’s kinda nice now, I can move just about all the way around my shop. Trying to think when I last done that without doing a salsa twist.

Had to go back to my paying job, so not a whole lot went on.
I found a angle iron frame on casters on FB marketplace. Of course it was not the size I needed, but not a issue when you own cut off wheels and a welder.
IMG_3598.jpg
IMG_3599.jpg

Here is my markings before I sliced and diced.
IMG_3702.jpg

The pieces look so small after I cut up, I had to go measure to make sure it was right!
IMG_3703.jpg

The frame was built by cutting a miter out of the bottom leg of the angle and then bending to for a frame. I didn’t account for the radius, which made me a little too small, so i just gapped the joints and welded it up.

IMG_3724.jpg

Had to touch up a few of the joints because of the gap. Just didn’t have good position to weld and the frame sprung some when it was cut.
IMG_3723.jpg

Anyway, it’s done, just waiting on paint and I’ll set the Napa cabinet in it.
IMG_0574.jpg

Just another step to getting stuff in place.
