What do you mean by "put together?" Do they need assembly?

just a note on some of the new listing for their tool boxes: looks like the ones with the crappy pictures are now 24" deep. might officially put them as a better deal than the HF ones with sears' sales prices. $479-35off300=$444 for a 53x24" box.
this one has griplatch instead of soft close drawers tho...not my preference

Craftsman 53" 9 Drawer Rolling Cabinet – Red

That looks really nice. I got the 52" nine drawer rolling workbench with the wooden top back in February, because it was 100% back in points (over 52 weeks!) but its only 18" deep and doesnt seem to be on the website anymore. Does it have chrome handles like it shows in the pics?

Interesting that shows added in November of 2019, seems crazy to think they'd be adding tool boxes while eliminating tools but got to be huge markup on those.

On another note I was cleaning for the holidays today and came across an unopened Sears "Alfie" that was free after points. What a dumb idea that was, anybody remember those?

That Griplatch does look different from the old Waterloo version, but I suppose they could have updated the design.

Did you get a look at the manual? It may mention SBD somewhere in it. Also, you may need to see the cardboard box to check if it states USA with global materials.

It's a different design, but as someone with a bunch of Waterloo Griplatch, I'd say its better. Rather than use the spring metal to provide tension on the moving latch handles, these new pieces use actual coil springs. They are also good to 100 lbs/ drawer while the old ones I have max out at 75.

Confirmed COO is China. I don't need any more boxes, but I'd consider the 27" setup if a good sale deal came around. Manual was in the box, not a SBD product as theirs are USA with global, and feature flimsy drawer pulls and non latching design.

Go to the sears site and look under deals/coupons upper left corner of screen.
Scroll though until you see coupons. Are you a SYW member?

Or just type SEARS35OFF300 in the cart's Coupon Code field.

For free delivery, make sure a coupon does not drop the item's price below $399 (before tax).

Thanks. The coil springs in the photo are what caught my attention.

Since SBD bought out Waterloo, I wonder who made these new boxes from China. Great Star again?

What is the quality of this box compared to say a Husky or Harbor Freight General box?

It’s largely a preference between soft close drawers and the mechanical latching drawers. I prefer the latter, plenty prefer the former. And I have a big thing against the squeaky drawers on the harbor freight. All the samples in the store squeak and several here have had varying success getting it to go away with different amounts of weight in the drawer or lubricant.

Ship to store seems to no longer be an option at my soon to be closing Sears. Hopefully my last two orders show up before that happens.

Ship to store seems to no longer be an option at my soon to be closing Sears. Hopefully my last two orders show up before that happens.

I've picked up stuff at closing stores a couple times it usually goes very smooth.

THe closing stores I've dealt with have more hours and more staff on hand, the guys in the back room are still working because theyre loading stuff for people and stocking inventory.

A couple of things. If you pick up big orders from open stores, tip the guy who brings it out, especially if you see them a lot. I didnt do it every time, but I would flip them a five when I had something heavy (like the two lazy boy patio sets I picked up once) or if I had a really big order or around xmas. When you come in there after that they drop what theyre doing to get your stuff. They would also let me keep my car parked right by the back door when I shopped.

When my nearest store closed a few years back I had gotten to know one of the mangers pretty well, I brought ten dominos $5 pizzas in there for the staff when they started the closing. They were really happy, I walked thru the store and everybody was thanking me for the pizza, I miss that store.

When the store was closing they gave me the "Craftsman" signage from the tools department. I got one of those wooden crates that said "Sears" on the side and all the metal signage from the parking lot, something about no loitering, and I got a "reserved for Shop Your Way Members" metal sign too. Oh, I bought to brannock devices too just cuz (the things they measure your feet with for shoes)

I havent hung the sign yet but i'm going to, I'll try to post a pic in the next message. Moral of the story is it pays to talk to those guys and be nice.

So I attached the photos, hopefully they show up ok. Lots of cool stuff in a closing store. Also when they closed they called me because they found an order of mine that got missorted.

I ended up getting a tour of the back rooms, it was immense, multiple floors. They couldve had double the inventory they had on the floor on a good day back there. The store manager told me there was even a furniture section with nice hardwood floors that had been walled off for years. I remember back in the 90's we bought a kitchen table there. I had forgotten all about furniture on the second floor and how much bigger it was, they walled it off 20 years ago.

Hey, Thanx!

How about the quality of the drawers and slides as far as metal gauge and robustness of the drawers?

It’s amazing what they use to offer in the stores. And how the stores shrunk in size as they walked off sections to use for stock storage.

The sales floor expanded after the catalog pickup area was closed down.

The 1/2” digiclick is back in stock with the price cut to $69.99 overnight. Over on the lay-off someone alleged these were made by Apex and they wouldn’t be able to get any more m. So either great star took over production or somehow they got More from apex as they’ve been out of stock for about two weeks.

This is a good sign that they’re adding stock back in.

Yes sir they come in a box you need to assemble them. Legs need put on the foot ring needs put on the legs. Not a real big job but enough that they are a little bit of a challenge.

A little cross talk here eH? :) Must be a party line...(anybody remember those? {and no, I'm not referring to the "Party chat lines"})

No, the ratcheting screw drivers do not need assembly (the shop stools do)..I have a set of them as well, but I really haven't used them much yet. They were just too cheap to pass up at the time. I've tested them and they seem fine, but for regular usage and durability...I'm just gonna have to wait to know.

Nice.

Did they have any old C3 display models? If yes, any idea of the discount at which they sell off?

Can anyone check for me if these long cutters are still available anywhere near them? https://www.shopyourway.com/product/664617037

I don't know about other stores, but many online inventory numbers for the local store seem even more unreliable than usual.

I see plenty in stock at the local store, but always showing out of stock online. They have several dozen of the BF flashlights for the past few weeks, but the website continues showing OOS.

According to the website, all the new red boxes I posted about a month ago are available in-store locally.

The staff didn't know they existed, and couldn't explain why there are no display models. :rolleyes2

They did at the time and a lot of batteries too. I think a lot of them were things they used to assmemble tools or patio furniture or for testing warranty claims etc. Those sold fairly cheaply compared to the typical store closing full price less 10%. I believe the store managers can set the price on that and anything non-inventory wise however they want. Most were $10-$20 or less if they were beat up. File cabinets were cheap (and probably 40 years old) for example. There was a large mix of lighting ballasts and ceiling tiles and ceiling tile spray paint. I did get some very nice industrial stainless steel cleaner too. Those are all cash or charge items no points. I also got a two pack of those strap wrenches they sell, but these were so old (they must’ve found them when cleaning the store room) they were made in England instead of China.

Thruout the whole closing everyone I saw was a sears employee, I never saw anyone from a “liquidator” but maybe they ran the show from the back somewhere.

Originally the store (roseville mi) was going to be downsized with part of it becoming one of those At Home stores. Then just as quickly they closed the whole store. The part that was going to stay sears is still vacant as far as I know and it’s been a couple of years. The tire center stayed open as a diehard store for about a 18 months it closed 9 months ago.

Edited to add, I just looked and I guess they opened a hobby lobby in the part that was going to remain as sears.

This is what I’ve been noticing. I know one store quite a ways away definitely has those cutters, but of course you can’t order them online. There seems to be no specific reason because some stuff ships from store, some ships from DCs so you’d think they’d just ship the stuff from the store with stock. Seems there no rhyme or reason, who knows what’s really in stock anymore. I was merely curious if it’s just some random system glitch and they were in stock elsewhere. Maybe they won’t ship if the stock is so limited, no real clue.

The $15.94 blowout plier sets are back at $24.99. They had been out then showed in stock to order last week. I tried to order 4 sets to gift and they got stuck processing and something went wrong. They still showed in stock then went back to full price. I chatted with Sears who ended up discounting them and shipping them free. They’re coming direct out of the DC according to the tracking. So I wonder if they switched vendors on them and were just blowing out the previous vendor stock.

Who is really responsible for the digiclick design? If it’s a Sears design and apex contract built them then they could just have great star or another company produce the design. How long that takes is probably 4-6 months.

For online ordering it used to be that the store would carry one more than what was in online inventory. That way there was rarely a problem (a lesson Lowes for instance should learn since they cancel about 90% of my online orders). Now, who knows, it does seem like they do randomly do a physical inventory and stock jumps.

As for the digiclick I’m not sure. Could be they had ordered in advance and the order just arrived. Or the vendor held back produced stock releasing on payment.

I’ll try to get my hands on one and compare them to the old stock. A lot of the info on the lay-off is wrong or rumors.

fyi...some of the blowout stuff is back down to their **.94 prices

also, pretty sure this is the cheapest ive ever seen these. plus FREECASH will work on them bringing either down to $36.94 which is a steal for these sets

GearWrench 4 pc. Standard Flat Full Polish Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set $41.94
GearWrench 4 pc. Metric Flat Full Polish Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set $41.94

and this is back to its lowest blowout price

Craftsman 75 pc. Combination Tap & Die Carbon Steel Set $79.94

Those GW were cheaper on the first round of blowout deals, but still a solid price.

3 pack breaker bars have a new vendor apparently. ZA-J stamped and not the same as the Great Star ones from the Ultimate Collection. Back of packaging says Transform SR Brands. I’ll side by side with an ultimate collection great star one once I go out to the garage.

ZA-H stamped is Ultimate Collection (now assortment) great star.

ZA-J same part # from breaker bar 3 pack. Even disregarding the oil for shipping the chrome is not as bright and the handle is slightly thicker. Could still be great star from another factory or is an entirely different vendor. Dated 22nd week of 2019 which was end of May/early June.

Online Only! Extra 10% off select tools sold by Sears. Expires on 12/10/2019

RetailMeNot $5 Off $35 on Tools coupon

Craftsman 1PC SWIVEL STOOL WORKSHOP SEAT $$35.99 - $5 = $30.99

prod_21212928412

Craftsman Adjustable Hydraulic Seat - Black $44.99 - $5 = $39.99

prod_1662822412

If'n you're out and about check your local TSC, they also offer a hydraulic stool and they've been marked down to $39.99 in my store.

It has a back and adjustable hydraulic height but the rungs are round rather than square.

I don't think it's necessarily any better, just another option.

edit: each store gets a limited stock, it'll be in the swing area with all the holiday tools
