Finally something to put in here. This was listed as Vidmar cabinet $50 on Facebook marketplace. I immediately said I will take it and picked up with no drama this morning. Not sure why a bidding war didn’t happen as is usually the case. I thought it was much smaller than it was. It almost didnt fit in the Fit 😊

My wife wasnt pleased with the hitchhiker that came along (her first tarantula)

I spent the rest of the day cleaning it up. Still need to get rid of sticker residue and wax it. The paint is decent. We get a fair amount of surplus around here due to Dyess AFB. This evidently came off the flight line judging by the labels inside.

This post requires a "you ****"! Nice score on that Tarantula er, I mean Vidmar. :scared:

LS,
Good luck on using those wrenches to make drawer pulls. I have used some old wrenches to make pulls, and some are almost impossible to drill for screws. I don't have a welder so I drill holes through the wrenches to attach them to the cabinets.

SWMBO found an Estate Sale to go to on Sat morning that required sign up online to limit access and number of people inside at once. She snagged spots 1 & 2. All items were 25% off. She snagged a bunch of sterling jewelry for next to nothing and I ended up with a few garage items that always come in handy for $11.

Good stuff! I never really thought about it this way, but there are definitely jobs where using a beater tool is better than ruining a good one.

So many great tools out there, im glad you are all able to collect and curate them. I just have a few little odds and ends over here that I found. $20 for the slightly damaged regulator and $10 for the tool assortment.IMG_20200714_193549.jpgIMG_20200714_193657.jpg

Is the grinder bolted to a stand? Loose bolts can cause a violent vibration. That's how I garbage picked a nice usable grinder and stand once. The owner said something was wrong with it.

Another likely suspect is out-of-balance wheels. Take the wheels off and run it. It it runs smoothly, try one wheel at a time to isolate the problem.

Yes, remove the wheels or at least dress them. If you have to bolt a grinder down to keep it from vibrating, you need to do more to it. A grinder should never vibrate whether it is bolted down or not. Unfortunately, of all the block grinders I've passed through, only a couple had balanced arbors. There really isn't anything you can do with that.

I saw this cabinet right after it was posted on OfferUp. I already have 2 of these, the Mechanic and Woodworkers version, and I didn't really need another and I figured someone kinda trashed it by putting up the pegboard inside. So I let it sit there for 4 days but my curiosity got the better of me and I met the seller and bought it for the 20 dollars. He had no other offers. It came out of the tool room at Argonne national Labs, the seller worked there and had it sitting in his garage for several years.

I was curious what was behind the pegboard, would there be broken off brackets? The painted little outlines of the tools? I've had a total of 5 of these cabinets pass thru my hands but to my suprise it was just brackets to hold the pegboard so it makes me think that maybe it came this way. The doors are the same way too. Also the first one I've seen without the key lock and a clasp instead. I can only guess that it was a later model.

You **** majorly! The later crown top versions came with peg board in them. $20 is a screaming deal!

Thanks for the input on the block grinder guys! I was thinking first dress the wheels, second take the wheels off, and third take it off the stand and put it on a bench and see if it still vibrates. Thanks for confirming my thoughts! I was also thinking maybe there was something wrong inside...

Didn't bring much home (Lugz 2020_24) from the flea market today. An antique very small hand truck, all iron, including the wheels - just because I can't resist old hand trucks and warehouse carts etc. A 3/4-inch hex to 1/2-inch square drive adaptor (S-9526) - just because they're almost always missing from sets and it's always a good idea to grab them when you can. And a Hybrand (snic) script logo tappet wrench - just because of the novelty. More on that later.

I did see a few INTERESTING THINGS, including this Chinese-made Snyder 3-wheeler before I even left the parking lot, a couple of very wide 2-drawer Kennedy machinists' chests, which I had never seen before, and I was sorely tempted but ultimately LEFT BEHIND a couple items, including this fantastic WWI-era collapsible canvas water bucket with a canvas pour spout (not terribly expensive, but I am trying to be more selective lately), and this beautiful "USAAF" marked survival knife in a 1944 dated sheath ($275 firm).

I never understood why anyone built 3-wheel cars in that configuration. It is so much better to have two front wheels, as it doesn't want to tip over in turns. I would totally buy one if they were built like that (I love weird cars) but no like this.

I have one of the wide (28") Kennedy risers, but its currently sitting empty. Not sure what I am going to do with it in the end.

The Brits loved their quirky 3-wheelers. The Morgan and the Berkeley were two front/one rear, the Reliant Robin, Bond Mini, and AC Petite had the single wheel in the front. Dezhou was the maker on this one.

I thought making a little workbench out of the one Kennedy riser with the wooden top was a good idea.

Yeah, a Morgan is on the short list of dream cars...

(I am sure I will stumble across one at an unlisted yard sale, with a $50 tag on it. Yeah, that will totally happen, sure...

That part number on the drive plug would make it a Snap On correct?

Brought home a few things from an estate sale today:
- Electric pencil sharpener for the garage (my wife turned it down for her classroom)
- Copper mallet with previous owner’s initials carved into the stubby handle
- Pertersen sheet metal Vice-Grips 8R
- Craftsman 1/2 in. drive Universal Joint
- S-K Wayne 3/8 in. drive Universal Joint
- General Hardware Co. No. 16 protractor
- Starrett screw thread tool gauge
- Craftsman flex shaft tool. My first Dremel style tool so I’ll be searching for bits at future sales.
- Two vintage drafting lamps. The original color was a hammered green and the clamps are metal which convinced me they are older than others I’ve come across. One will be refinished for the office and the other for the garage.

Paid $30 for everything.

Would you be an Isetta or Messerschmidt kinda guy?
Messerschmidt for me. Less bubble, more nose.

The whole haul was terrific, but these made the pick, my opinion.

Here's a quick Garage Sale Thread Time-Delayed Cause-and-Effect Story, in two panels...

Some of you may remember the vintage bocce balls I found and reported here last June (hey, they're stored in the garage, so it counts...), post linked here. See Pic 1.

I had to do something with them - so I finally put in a bocce court! Adjacent to the ping pong table. A little shorter than I would've liked at 36', but the CINCHOUSE wouldn't let me go full yard. See Pic 2.

Some nice finds again guys! Still dead here... (No pun intended...)

I'm with BMW on the three wheelers. one in front is a rollover waiting to happen...

Lugs, I have the 11 Drawer wide box Kennedy. I'd love to find a 2 or 3 drawer mid for it! Its my "Machinist" box. next to the lathe. I do have two 20" 2 drawer mids...

That canvas bucket is cool! Someone was thinking when they made/designed that!

Nice Bocce ball court!

One of my high school girlfriends mom lived out in the country on an old ranch, and in one of the outbuildings was a Messerschmit three-wheeler parked. No one knew anything about it, but I loved it. Not as much as my Datsun Roadster though...

Jeremy Clarkson rolling a 3-wheeler:

Climatecreator, you will love those Kant-twist clamps!

I recently passed on a Norlund hatchet head in a leather sheath for $5.00. It was in excellent condition, but I don't need another project! I restored a Boy Scout axe for my son last year, and that was enough.

Is the “n” just a formatting typo artifact from selecting and italicizing “[sic]”?
Or is that the sound-effect for X-men’s Wolverine/Logan extending his claws - “SNIK”? As in, “HYBRAND!!!” (SNIK) “More on this later, Bub!

It was a cool little car. But I think back to what we were driving in high school in the eighties, and what was around commonly. One friend drove a '65 Mustang GT, his brother an RX4, another had a '63 bug, my brother drove a '76 Land Cruiser, a good friend had a 2002, the weird dude at the gas station had an Alfa coupe, there was a '63 Vette around the corner from me and so one. Now they are all worth tons of money and we drove them into the ground...

I towed a robins egg blue Datsun 2000 from Runemede, NJ to Palmerton, PA with a rope - I sh*t you not, in 1976. When I left for boot camp in 1982 I sold it to my girlfriend for $1 so she could legally transfer the paperwork to her name. We broke up 2 years later. She kept the car. Ranks maybe #3 or maybe #4 on my Top 10 youthful boneheaded decisions.
