You guys are killin’ it with great deals! It’s so dead around here. :(

b.well:
Those Art Deco style little Parkers sure have style don’t they? Here is one I picked up a while ago and redid.

Nice work. I do like the words being clean metal. Is that a vintage Parker red? I haven't looked into Parker colors.

Thanks, FF. I seem to remember that, kinda sorta, from my host year, or maybe that was someone else. Anyway, I get it. Also the nostalgia. Like being a kid and taking apart an old 2-stroke just to see if you can put it back together again! When we still listened to music on the AM dial! :) (And just so you don't think I was overly curious, I was mainly pulling BB's leg. He was making a killing here for a couple years with Craftsman RAS's. I lost count!)

I thought you were talking about me for a minute. I didn't make a killing but I may have submitted a few.

After thinking I was done for the weekend once I dug thru the random toolbox, something else popped up. An Allen Universal Wrench set for $10. Messaged him immediately, and swung by yesterday evening to pick it up. They also had this Snap-on 1/4 set that was decently complete. Picked them both up for $15 total. SO ratchet adapter and Plomb breaker were in the Allen box. 1/4 set has SO standing up, and all the loose sockets by the ratchet are Plomb. Date code for the set is E, so '44? Ratchet was added by me, code is 51.IMG_20200920_183113_01.jpegIMG_20200921_165741.jpegIMG_20200921_165801.jpgIMG_20200921_165841.jpg

A big you **** in the No. 6 ratchet adapter being the early version. Can we get a close up of the Plomb bar for the Plomb addicts on the board not to name any names.

On Saturday I bought a mill! Well. the only mill i could fit in the garage or basement and easily afford. An Enco Mill Drill 1981 edition. It will need some work but nothing is locked up. There is rust and the motor is untested. I had to buy it when my offer was accepted at a tag sale. $50. I had to take it apart to get in the truck. I think it will clean up nicely.

Not a bad day. 3 vises $100. One is a Starrett 014, one is a Parker, and I think the other is a record. I haven't looked real closely yet. Parker is going to go into the molasses for a couple weeks.

Craftsman torch setup $free, I need to pick up the tanks tomorrow, also free.

Also got a free cool old creeper that I am too old to use. Thank God for lifts! Guy is moving and has to clean out. I also am getting a vintage roller toolbox, a couple of steel lower utility box cabinets, and probably a bunch of other stuff when I go back.

Thanks
If you search for pics of those 63 1/2’s, you’ll find quite a few old, worn, original looking paint jobs that are a muted red. I took a clue from those. Yes, the lettering on mine is bare metal. The casting porosity prevented really clean sharp contrast. But I’m satisfied with the outcome.

This might be the You **** of the Month!

Did you get any tooling with it? Earlier this year, I got a free Jet mill/drill from work, but no tooling, not even an arbor, so not exactly free.

Rory and P-man **** big time!

I had a Total TOO today - I went to the PO to mail some paperwork and there was an impromptu GS on the main street near the PO (only sign was in front of his house - I nearly missed it!)

Not a lot out, and no sign of people so I had to knock on the door. Old guy comes out the garage door, and I verify he really is having a sale and he said he was "Just putting a few things out, I have a van full and other things" (But clearly he's not working at this...)

I ask if its just what out or if there is stuff in the garage, - Yes, but he hasn't got that far (well after 2 in the afternoon... :) )

There is a pretty big swivel jaw vise on the floor I can already tell is a Prentiss, despite no big markings... and after asking my standard Q's on "Do you have any ...." and getting nowhere, I ask about the vise on the floor....

"I just took that off my bench. I replaced it with this swivel head vise I picked up..."(Yep! Chinese wonder vise :wtf: )

"Is it for sale?"

"Well, yeah, I guess so, I don't need it any more."

"What do you want for it?"

"Oh I don't know its real heavy, they don't make 'em like that any more ... Yadda yadda ... Maybe $50?"

"Can't I look it over?"

"Sure!"

I make sure it operates and the shelf is there and there are no obvious cracks or welds...

"Would you take $40?"

More hemming and hawing and he eventually counters with $45. Deal!

So a 4-1/2" swivel Jaw Prentiss came home from a trip to the PO!

I'll have to do some looking for what model, 'cause no markings except
PRENTISS.NY on the back, on top...

Nice find. You **** awarded for sure.

Haven't seen a Vintage USA vise only put their name on the top of the static jaw. Prentiss is usually spelled out nice and big on the side. Why do you think different here?

You know I don't really know, it's a really nice job if it's homemade I kind of think it's commercial and I haven't really examined it closely for markings but nothing jumped out at me
That is cool. I only ever see plywood ones. Any indication of the maker, or do you think it’s homemade?

Had a very nice offer to return to an estate sale today to take anything left for free! This was mostly a tool sale and most of the tools were sold but I did come away with this box and I think some nice finds. Found my first Stanley sweetheart plane but it's nothing like I expected it to be.....lol

One Tin can has about 60 sockets
One Tin can has Taps up to 7/8
The Ridgid pipe cutter will take some big pipe!
The wooden handle on the bottom is a Stanley SW plane. Never saw one like this. What decade is this from?
Craftsman blacksmith hammer
Irwin USA drill boring bits
The smaller shiny rectangle is some type of measuring tool. Know what?
Welding gloves
Cotter Pins
Empty SK socket metal box
Paint brushes
Bench brush
John Deer tin box

Nice family and nice digging through their workshop again.

BW, if you are talking about the mini plane with the long hinged handle its a label scraper from the days when many things were shipped in wood boxes and crates. Used to remove the label for reuse of the box.

And free always *****!

LOL. Are you sure about the label scraper? I am sure you are. The bottom just said planner to me all the way. Looks like a mini planner....lol. And the Stanley SW blade sold me on that too. The modern label scraper I have uses razor blades. I am anxious to try this out on wood and labels now :)

Thanks!

Sorry to drop a post that is just for humor, but this showed up on Marketplace tonight and I am not sure whether to celebrate the skills that made this happen or to run away screaming. I will let you decide. What do you do when the motor goes on a grinder, but the bearings are still good?

I wish there was a f*cking tool today to remove the labels from cardboard boxes so they can be reused! What a waste of time.

A CL ad I saw early this a.m. (up before the sun) w/no phone, just an email, he answered early afternoon, I asked when he would be available. He said, 'tonight,' and gave me a time range, I told him I was coming from the next county, and would PM him I was on my way, if he's text me his address. He did, I got on the road, and battled rush-hour traffic.

What was worth that?

A made in USA Craftsman tool set, sockets and ratchets. Ninety-two pieces, if I counted correctly.

1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets

1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" sockets in inches and metric, in standard and deep

6 pt and 12 pt

a 1/4" driver handle tool in clear, red/blue plastic

a bonus 3/8" to 1/2" adapter, not part-of the original set

The best part, besides it being made in USA? The price.

Twenny-five simoleons.

Hellanice vise, Outlaw, whatever model number it turns out to be.

Thanks LS! It is a Model 20 Prentiss. With a strong hint I was able to confirm.

BODYMAN, I know what you mean. I always try to be respectful of the items and others. No reason to throw things and such, and get in the space of others. I know most of us here could write a book about sales.

3bay, I agree on being respectful. SWMBO and I enjoy going to estate sales in our area with one particular company. We've gotten to know the owner and we are always trying to help him out when we spot things that aren't right or need his attention. It's paid many dividends to us over the years whether it's better 1st day pricing or his "free" gift to us.

I have one of those scrapers as well. It is used in place of sanding. Scraping a surface leaves a perfect flat open grain. It requires patience and skill I am still working on but the finished surface is far better than can be obtained with sandpaper.

The square gauge thing is correctly a **** gauge, for laying out **** hinges, cutting the recess for them.

https://archive.org/details/StanleyImprovedNo95ButtGauge

Scraper is lower right

Thanks for the links. I saved the pages. Learned something new!

I'm sure; I have one myself and we've been down this path multiple times now

confirm.

I see the tool is labeled as a box scraper. However, in the description it says, allows user to scrape any uneven surface..... boxes, floors, etc.... sounds like very planner hybrid talk to me :)

Nice set at about %75 off eprey prices. I still have mine from 2006(USA, Easy Read sockets, VɅ wrenches, KU ratchets). Yours looks older. What series are the sockets and ratchets?
