Jake’s trip - probably last of the year. Officially closes after next weekend, but a lot of vendors were mumbling about predicted weather and other trends. Bob the Toolman was packing his truck as I was leaving, and I was out of cash, so I missed his $7-a-dozen deal today.
Still, I like what I got for $25 from the rest of the field.
First item I bought was an Army Air Forces mechanics apron. Don’t know much about it, but it seemed cool.
Grabbed a bunch of Bonney B-shield and Zenel wrenches. One of the 3/8dr sockets is a Whitworth size.
Craftsman underline No3 tappet wrench and geometric linemans pliers. Can hardly wait to de-mummify it to see if it has the nested-diamonds pattern grips. Modern-day dikes.
Barcalo universal pliers, Bridgeport 5432 mini screwdriver. Utica side-cutting pliers, some other project stuff.
And I have been on the lookout for Lauber wood handles. Spotted this one today. It was early in the day and the handle was a bit abused. I suppose someone will tell me the box-end tool in it is a rare early Snap-on worth hundreds, but I didn’t buy it. Same vendor didn’t sell me on the McAleer tool box behind it, with tote and in good shape, except for the jello-green flaky paint job. A lot of guys wanted $20-and-up for carry boxes today. IDK why. Had my hands on a Stanley sweetheart table vise, but the jaws were filed and cut, and the slide had a couple holes bored through from workpieces. At $12, I figured I probably have that size anyway.
EDIT - Yes, my first nested-diamonds Craftsman Vanadium linemans pliers. I shouldn’t complain about the coat of asphalt under the copious tape bandages (I understand it’s all part of proper mummification ritual), because it protected the handles from sweat and disguised how beautiful they truly are. Without all that nasty goo, someone would surely have used them to cut something, risking the perfect cutting jaws.
Also, failed to mention the 9/16” T-handled fixed-socket wrench. “Brownbilt” Syracuse, NY.
