I posted my vote for Picker of the Year. I have to say, it was a difficult choice. Other than yours truly, everyone else on the list brought home a bunch of terrific deals and contributed strongly to the thread. Regardless of who wins the vote, you all had a great year--bravo!

Still trying to decide here. I have an idea, but certainly have to review some if those picks!

A couple prior purchases to slip in still before the year’s end.

Lunch break pawn shop finds from an afternoon last month.

-pair of old Thorsen 1/2” drive deep sockets. Not the prettiest, but still quite cool and heavy duty.
-Barcalo and Indestro short dbe wrenches
-2 Kobalt (Williams) metric sockets
-3 S-K metric sockets
-Klein crimper and small hacksaw. This may be the fourth or fifth branding of this saw that I own.

The farm estste sale I went to last month, I returned there on day two but never posted these yet. One of those sales you know you shouldn’t go back to but you go anyway and find yourself with a mess of stuff.

The prices were great second day, but some things need a lot of cleaning. I was able to go into the dilapidated mechanic’s shop trailer that I missed on day 1. Had to place a board over the floor to enter, it was pretty rough. Also rummaged through another trailer full of almost nothing but old parts and junk.

Pics 1-3
-Case tractor manual
-Blackhawk short dbe
-Williams 12” adjustable
-Williams piston ring pliers *with a twist*- more to follow in the Williams thread.
-Craftsman 1/2” rat by NB, good for parts only
-Sockets: Snap On flex, NB made unmarked t bar head, Craftsman drag link, Proto
-Snap On specialty offset crowfoot socket
-Kent Moore specialty offset socket wrench with FSN
-Snap On specialty Cummins wrenches, set of three.

Pic 4
-Copperhead rim wrench for lug nuts. I have one in better condition already. This is very well used and needs cleaning. Still neat to find in the wild.
-Misc old wood chisels
-Deere, etc. open end wrenches
-Bemis & Call metal wrench

Pic 5
- Bonum *********** saw. Kinda different.
-ugly Cracker Barrel skillet

Pic 6
-Astro 3/4” drive impact socket set, one CM replacement.

Pic 7
-misc. 3/4” drive shallow and deep sockets. Blackhawk, Truecraft, Wright, Proto, Bonney, etc. and Craftsman ext.

I picked this up today. It looks too clean to be vintage. Any of you military collectors know what it is? I’m thinking it’s going to make an above average electrical connector storage box.

That's what it was for. It is super clean, but it's probably NOS never used from the 50's. M-series vehicles. That format FSN was replaced by 11- and then 13-digit NSN in 1954. It lived on almost like a model number with some mfgrs, but not for very long.

I hit a couple sales yesterday, most poor which is not too surprising this time of year. Anyway, here are the slim pickings:

Sockets are D-I, Snap-on, and Herbrand (19/32nds!), a pre-77 Armstrong DBE, early Cornwell 7/16's combo, Proto extension, Williams T-handle with Proto LA stuck on it (I am guessing JB weld) Snap-on G extension, Herbrand P3, two Bessie knockoffs (.25 each, so I am not sweating it) and the pick of the bunch:

An ExceLite metric nut driver set. Complete except for the 9mm, which I will keep an eye out for. All of this cost $8.25.

It must be Craftsman Vanadium Nest-Diamond grip Parrot head pliers month at my flea. This is the second in two weeks. Some highlights and oddities in the rest of the haul (Lugz 2020_61) include the Bonney-branded ignition pliers made by Champion DeArment, a wrench with odd jaws on the opposite end marked "BALL BEARING PUNCH" and those little hand-held pincer jaws at the bottom.

Lugz, is the itsy bitsy DOE forged or stamped? Sort of looks forged?

Details on the " little hand-held pincer jaws"?

Nice finds this late in the year! Its quiet here between lock downs and now badly needed rain (Our rain gauge is showing over 3/4" in the past 24 hours or so)

The other pic is a self portrait?

Thanks. I ran into a guy with a mess of old wrenches (at least 100) but I was short on cash and had to leave a bunch of things behind I probably would've brought home.

The itsy bitsy is an ignition wrench with a gapper on the flips side. That, the other one, the pocket-clip file and the hand-held pincer jaws came out of the same box. I

I will post more photos of the pincher-jaws later, but for now...they look like pliers, but have serrated jaws like pipe wrenches, and a little square opening in the nose when closed, like some pliers do for holding wire. They have slots in them on the back side where a PO slipped a piece of wire that acts as a sort of spring. So you hold them between your finger and thumb and pinch. But I don't think the wire is factory. And yet they don't look like they are jaws that came out of handles. I don't see how they would be fastened.

I didn't mean to post that accidental off the glass selfie. You guys are too quick for me! I posted the cabinets and removed that too to post on Drives' cabinets thread. HAHA. I was futzing with the camera. Everything looks a little fuzzy. Look how much glare there is in that lot I posted. Morning light or something.

I hope evilPay qualifies, 'cause that's where this baby came from. I bought it mostly because I like the style and hadn't seen it before. I'm also fond of New Britain because they manufactured Penncraft wrenches and sockets, my first good tools, still use 'em.

I'm wondering about the red-painted recesses on this wrench. Is it original? It's so well done it could be-reminds me of some Plomb pebbles. I'd like to spiff it up a bit, de-rust, but not if that paint is original!

Jake’s trip - probably last of the year. Officially closes after next weekend, but a lot of vendors were mumbling about predicted weather and other trends. Bob the Toolman was packing his truck as I was leaving, and I was out of cash, so I missed his $7-a-dozen deal today.
Still, I like what I got for $25 from the rest of the field.
First item I bought was an Army Air Forces mechanics apron. Don’t know much about it, but it seemed cool.
Grabbed a bunch of Bonney B-shield and Zenel wrenches. One of the 3/8dr sockets is a Whitworth size.
Craftsman underline No3 tappet wrench and geometric linemans pliers. Can hardly wait to de-mummify it to see if it has the nested-diamonds pattern grips. Modern-day dikes.
Barcalo universal pliers, Bridgeport 5432 mini screwdriver. Utica side-cutting pliers, some other project stuff.

And I have been on the lookout for Lauber wood handles. Spotted this one today. It was early in the day and the handle was a bit abused. I suppose someone will tell me the box-end tool in it is a rare early Snap-on worth hundreds, but I didn’t buy it. Same vendor didn’t sell me on the McAleer tool box behind it, with tote and in good shape, except for the jello-green flaky paint job. A lot of guys wanted $20-and-up for carry boxes today. IDK why. Had my hands on a Stanley sweetheart table vise, but the jaws were filed and cut, and the slide had a couple holes bored through from workpieces. At $12, I figured I probably have that size anyway.

EDIT - Yes, my first nested-diamonds Craftsman Vanadium linemans pliers. I shouldn’t complain about the coat of asphalt under the copious tape bandages (I understand it’s all part of proper mummification ritual), because it protected the handles from sweat and disguised how beautiful they truly are. Without all that nasty goo, someone would surely have used them to cut something, risking the perfect cutting jaws.
Also, failed to mention the 9/16” T-handled fixed-socket wrench. “Brownbilt” Syracuse, NY.

Wartime for sure. Terrific find! I don't know if you recall, but I found an Air Corps toolbox earlir this year marked '472nd Sub-Depot' that belonged to a maintenance shop at base in England for B-24 Liberators. I just went through the period photos on the thread, linked here, that I had created for it, to see if I could spot any of the mechs wearing an apron. No such luck, but I know of a second thread I created on the G503.com site for a Crew Chief's box I found a few years ago, also with good period pics. I will search through it later for you.

Here are those pinch jaws. They are like a cross between a pin vise and a hand vise. They don't have teeth, by the way. I was misremembering. Just the opening in the nose to hold pins or wire. I wish I could demonstrate, but those little shoulders fit perfectly between the crook of the first knuckle on your index and the pad of your thumb.

We've talked about those groove and panel NB wrenches either on the NB or DOE threads, Bob. They are rare. I hardly ever see them. I have a few. Here are two I could rustle up quickly. I don't recall seeing them with paint before and none of the examples I have found have had paint. Doesn't mean the paint is not original, though. And you might double chck on the NB thread with others. One of mine has a strange 'pretzel' mark. Not sure what that is.

Thanks, Lugz! There were several for sale on 'bay and one or two had that pretzel logo- or embellishment? but not a good photo. Yours is really distinct - now I've got logo envy!!

I like wrenches with decorative designs, and I'm quite sure I've never seen one of these in the wild. I just had to have it.

The slot the wire rides in looks original. I vote the wire is also original and is intended to spring the jaws apart in the “chuck.” The particular geometry is probably patented.
7062.png

I have several bitbraces, and have used them on occasion, but have not taken any apart recently enough to remember the anatomy.

Here you go Lugz: Yours are for a much smaller hand drill than this, but same concept. this one needed clearance for larger bits, and incorporated jaw retention as well (wire loop behind the threads)

Looks like you've got an NDF-62 there, Mine are NDF-84 (5/8 x 11/16) and NDF-18 (1/2 x 9/16). If you want to start a collection, PM me. It's not that I don't like them. The design is nifty. I just never see them and you have a connection.

So it's bulk pickup here and we were cruising around and saw something at the curb. The curve under the table looked familiar . . . and I was correct.

It's a Vornado Model 28F1-1 table fan. It's dirty and dusty and needs a good cleaning, but it runs beautifully and the variable speed works!

I'll clean it up, rewire it and find a home for it somewhere.

Cheers

Jim
