I picked up the plasma adjusted 1” plate today. These two pieces are for the upcoming vise stand.

Vise fits nicely on the mount plate, I don’t know what happened?

Wanted to just set the casters in the slots to check out cutting job, it’s how I envisioned.

I love the look of those wheels.
The rubber is made by Firestone. Hope I don’t have any blowouts.

In other doings, I started some prep on the I-beams for the trolley.
When I picked out and marked the beams at the scrap yard, one was stacked tightly with other beams, when I came back to pickup I seen one had this plate on it. They already weighed it and there really wasn’t another in this size, so I loaded it up.

Today I cut that plate off.
318466062decbbb92dd26474dc13b7f0.jpg
It was very well welded on. I used a cut off wheel on the angle grinder to sever the welds without getting into the beam.
On the edge of the web, I cut through the weld into the plate, when I flipped beam over, I thought it’d be better to just cut through plate and weld right next to the edge of the web, I should of just kept going the way I started.
I wanted to get this off tonight, but the last edge decided to whip my ***. I was able to get the plate starting to come off by driving a big chisel under it. The first side was breaking off nicely, the other side that I thought I had a better way of cutting not so.

So, since I had hung the torch reel up, it was a piece of cake to drag out 70’ of hose to get out behind the shop. Just one of those times where steel just didn’t want to be separated. It’s off, looks good, just will need a little grinding to smooth out.

Picked up the structural hot dipped galvanized bolts and bevel washers this week too.

I bet that felt nice to just pull the hoses out and then putting them away was probably even better.

Looking good, making progress is progress no matter how slow. ;)

Strouty, I actually left the hose out last night, the cutting torch hose just so I’m clear. I expected to use today. The hose snaked through the shop, so still a little core to wind up, took me about 1 Minuit extra to make sure it didn’t snag on anything. But wind up it did, it would be violent if I just let go of the hose.
54731d9ccdbcf59e28ddbcf7136a1587.jpg

The beam came out pretty good.
434b59d68febaa1feae28cbf8ae768bf.jpg
Still needed a fair amount of grinding. I played it safe when cutting the weld, staying away from the original edge of the beam.
I clamped a straight edge to keep me straight.
618460d098551171bb11f5743e50ae9a.jpg
Finished.
afd63318d0c498af5db94bc135b4939c.jpg

The beam had a bent spot in a flange, so while I was in the beam restoring mode, here we go.
58d393cc757dd4cdedeea5511aab3115.jpg
Made use of one of the beam clamps, how appropriate!
6625b513b5ddabdbafb976929b152cd3.jpg

Squared off one end. I’ll weld a plate to each end of the beam, this will bolt to another plate coming off the 4” post providing stiffing for the top of the beam.

Nice work on the I-beam. The grinder got a good workout, no doubt.

Looking forward to seeing the vise stand project develop... definitely a beefy foundation in the works! You wife is right, it does look like a 2-axle truck from a train car, maybe 1/3 or 1/4 scale. Have them burn out about 50 more and you can build yourself a whole train yard!

Got me a new hose today.

Wanted a good air hose reel for the porch of the shop, came across this Reelcraft on FB market place. The mount and the hose guide is cast aluminum and I like the enclosure for the hose, it’s perfect for being outside.

I’ll mount off the end of the I beam that’s going in for the trolly, it’ll allow me a hose outside up against the wall out of the way and not snaking through the roll up door from the inside reel.
I have a couple of other quality reels, they just need work, I’m on a get the stuff in and use ASAP mission.
I’ll worry about fixing all the other stuff later.....maybe...... unless I come across more deals like today.

That is a nice looking reel, reminds me that I have a few to mount, maybe I will get to them this year? ;)

That's a good looking reel. And Reelcraft is a reputable company.

Thanks, I’ve been trying to find these brand of reels because of the quality and you can get repair parts for them.

I have some Jupiter Pneumatics reels that I bought from a overstock/shipping damage place here in Florida, they are pretty decent, but I’ve just shifted to the commercial quality.

I have a couple of Duro reels that need some TLC, I’m working with the mindset to just get shop in a little more of a operational state, then I’ll slow boat repairing stuff.

The new trolly beams, sell current weld table and I’ll be in better shape.

I’m really putting a effort to ignore sales and marketplace, but the damn reel popped up on my feed, really!

It’s a going to used fairly quickly thing, so not a issue with bringing stuff in.:lol_hitti

All my air hose reels are Reelcraft (and some water hose reels too!) and they have not failed in 15 years since they have been up. Knock on wood!

If you guys ever want to buy new ones, Zoro tools sells them at competitive prices and then when they have a 25% off coupon, they are really good prices. Still not cheap, but sometimes you just want one when you want one. ;)

Thanks for the tip Strouty. Zoro has treated me well on past purchases and their prices are typically good.

Like any online retailer, you have to look around, some things they sell are definitely not good prices. Other things they are the least expensive and when you add the coupon codes, they will be unreal prices. They do have lots of limitations and that ticks off a lot of people, but if you hunt for the best prices and then wait for a coupon code, you can get some great deals. 25% off is getting less common and generally tied to a larger purchase minimum, but 20% is pretty common. They used to do 30% off with no limitations, I bought a ton of things from them and saved thousands, it was great!!!!

Sorry for the highjack, back to our regularly scheduled show.....

Craig, what is this "underwear" thing?

:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

I sometimes use for backup toilet paper. We were at Flywheelers a couple years ago, the portolet I picked was devoid of toilet paper. So, two of my supposedly GJ buddies were not far away and I had a roll in my truck, but you think they’d answered my phone call?

So I spent the rest of the day like Bob!:lol_hitti

Trolleying along, I’ve been working on getting the ibeam trolley ready. This particular trolley is set fir 3.33” wide beam where my beam is 4” wide. I figured I’m OK to get longer bolts and ad spacers.
ad00dc1a04b2717ef9b14a7c65ca3137.jpg
I looked up the manufacturer and found a drawing on these and realized the bottom bolt should of have a link for the hoist to hang on. I call to see if I could buy or if they could at least give me some info. Turns out this one was configured with a flat bar hanging down, I’d have to use a shackle so the hoist hook had a connection, but now it’s getting longer and I’m trying to gain every inch of height I can. They have another option using a link like this.
b53bf5992f16e210a6ee6b48997b5a42.jpg
So after discussions on making wider and what bolt they used ( didn’t want to assume the bolt that in there was the correct one), the factory specified grade 5 bolts and that I’m OK making a little wider.
Thanks to Shopnut on the messages on gr5 verses gr8. From what I’ve known, gr8 is more brittle than a 5, so was getting a opinion . For the weight I’m putting on this, I’m sure either would of worked, but I’ll stick with the specs when it comes to lifting.

What I like about this trolley is it uses two bolts, one just under the beam that holds the two halves together rigid. The lower bolt is what the link hangs on for the hoist load. It also uses spacers that the bolt tightens against. I’ll need to machine a spacer with a reduced section in the middle to keep the link centered.
85bdebd29c972bbde969fb6455922036.jpg
It’s a neat little trolley, especially like the guide bearings on the side.

One more step to making life easier on my back.

I spent a little bit of time discussing this with CB so I will chime in. Like CB said, he would probably get away with hanging his hoist directly on that bolt as it is and be fine. But this isn't the way it was designed to work. If you were to overload that lower bolt (not that CB would EVER do that!), it could bend and pinch in the trolley ears. The hoist hook also could wander off to one side and unequally load the trolley.

It was intended to have something act as a spacer between those ears so you can torque the bolt properly and also to keep the hoist centered under the trolley. It appears that "spacer", in both cases on the drawing, builds up the diameter of bolt, helping to reduce the bending load the bolt sees. The spacer likely turns the load case on the bolt to essentially shear out at its ends where it enters the ears. Also consider CB wants to widen it to fit his beam, so that 5/8" bolt would be stressed even higher if used by itself.

Just my two cents.

What's wrong with hanging your chainfall from the lower bolt?

It’d probably be fine, I’m only lifting up to 1,000 lbs, but as Mark explained I’m going to set up like the manufacturer intended.

The hoist I have now is a 1/2 ton, but it did lift my 1,800 lb mill.

Well ain’t this the ****.
403a45f2dfd02aad414a64a4df354056.jpg
Woke up this morning a little in pain, hoping it’d pass on the throne and it just got worse by the minute.
Woke wife and decided to go to a urgent care, but I guess people don’t need them before 7-8 AM. I could t stand it, so off to the ER we go. Can’t believe I’m going.
So far it looks to be a infected gallbladder and probably passed a stone, if that’s so, it must of been a 3” rock.

So some more testing and antibiotics, got to stay in at least overnight. It *****, but it’s just as well to let them throughly check it out. Of the pain had stopped at home, I probably wouldn’t of done anything doctor wise and they said it had the potential to get worse.

On the bright side, nice cab on casters is keeping me company.

Kidney stones are no fun.

I have dealt with them for the last two decades. I had a large one pass then end of las year. Went to urgent care because I was unable to reach my doctor, I actually have not spoken to her since Covid started, and ended up having an ultrasound to see if there were more in the kidneys.

I have a big one, impassable, in each kidney, and I am waiting for the urologist to decide what can be done with them.

It will pass, the first one was terrifying now they are just annoying and painful

No kidney stones, they though gallbladder stone but the GI doc don’t think so. It’s the typical going back and forth.
Now the floor doc wants to keep me ( my insurance) overnight.

I’ll heed to thier concern about elevated white cells, but not for days.

I’m self checking out tomorrow when my wife is off work.

Going to see my regular doctor next week.

I want to hear plans on how to get the cab out, disguise as a wheel chair?
Back to cabs, casters and other regular ****!:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Just acquire a set of scrubs and wheel it out

When I was in the hospital the corner of my room had a growing collection of rolled up building plans

One of the doctors thought it was funny until I threatened to take over his conference room

Man, sorry to hear about the hospital visit... no one likes those. Good luck with all that!

Just put a bio-hazard decal on the that cabinet... You'll be able to wheel it right out to the truck without anyone getting within 10 feet of you. One of the haz-mat suits on you would seal the deal!

All you need is a clipboard. Anyone with a clipboard looks official. I have seen it on tv so it must be true. Just wheel it out the front door.
