Hi Guys
Thanks for all the ideas on how to isolate the compressor from the floor. I went with the horse stall
mat and added 4x4 squares cut from the mat for each foot. Since I live the state known to rock and roll at times (California).
I used 3/8 anchors on two feet as a safety option...
I just looked up a wire calculator online. Had read somewhere about planning for 50amps so I did my calcs on that.
Planning to put a 60amp cut off box to allow me to shut it off when out of shop.
So would a 40amp breaker be enough or just do a 50amp breaker?
Thanks for response.
Chuck
Bought a IR 60gal compressor (SS5SL) 5 HP.
Distance to main box is about 5ft.
I used a wire calculator to get a wire size of 8ga. The specs show it uses 21.5amps.
Would the 21.5 amps be start up amps or constant use power? If it constant what would the start amps be?
What size breaker should I...
Good Morning Gang
I have a 60gal upright compressor coming. I would like to isolate it from the shop slab to minimize sound transfer.
I was looking a some floor mount vibration isolators at Grainger verses just the basic vibration pads. How would I select the
pads ( i.e. weight ratings)...
I have had mine for years. I will pull the old fluid out of the master cylinder (watch for the clutch feed line). Fill the master and just watch it and refill as needed. It holds way to much fluid to use it with the fluid in it.
Thank Guys
I had read the Bendpak minimums on the flooring thickness and had seen other information on thicknesses, but needed to hear other wisdom to make myself feel better. So I will cut the floor and do the 6 inch thickness. That way I feel better on the floor strength.
Thanks for the...
I am going to put in a two post lift(10,000#), but the floor of my shop was poured to be about 4 inches thick (per person that put it in). What I have read recommends 6-8 inches of cement. So I figure I need to cut out a square on each side to dig it down a bit deeper and reinforce it with...
Finally finished the front part of the shop with the lights Platonic Solid help with. As calculated it is a bit bright, but usable.
Platonic Solid thanks

thanks for the calcs check. What is a MWBC? Can I call 4 lights one circuit? What is the equivalent of a circuit? I am lighting the bays (20x25) in the shop (4 lights to a bay) each bay will have a separate switch.
Thanks
Chuck
Platonic Solid gave me the preferred design for my lighting, My lights are 135w Hi Bay Led fixtures. I figure that I can put 8 light fixtures on each circuit
(135w/120v=1.125a X 8 lights = 9amps, on a 20a breaker)
I also want to not use a wall switch, so I am planing use some Z wave switches...
Platonic Solid thanks for the calcs. I have the white ceiling, but not the painted walls. These are fixtures that can be dimmed if I am over whelmed by the light.
I will follow up once I have them up.
Thank You for the help
Chuck
How over lit will it be at 4x8. I break down the shop by 20x25 bays. So I was thinking of the 4 lights per bay. Rarely will they all be on at the same time. I tried to convert the file you included and came to the conclusion i am lame.
Thanks
Chuck
Yea I had the same problem trying to get the specs.
Thank you for running the calcs. 5x5 it is.
That will save me 7 fixtures over my guess off of other projects
Thanks again
Chuck
I posted earlier about what I found and if that light selection would work. included more data this time.
I have a 50x80x16 building, figure I will suspend the lights at 15'
Iron **** had found these lights:
