Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Open the lid. Look inside at the floor of the top section. Should be a date code in the lower lefthand corner as you look down from above.

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I tapped mine off in a similar way, but used some folded up aluminum stock as the 'chisel'. This method was very gentle on the pulls. Fortunately, all my drawers were pretty straight so the pulls mostly came off without too much brute force.

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I stripped mine then painted it flat black. After it cured, I sanded off the tops of the letters and chevron. I then waxed it to protect the metal. If I were to do it over, I think I would paint it white first, let that cure, then lightly coat the letters and chevron with carnuba wax or a...

    Vintage Mac Tools Chest

Try emailing MAC. I sent a question on a 1970 roller cabinet and they responded quickly with some info. I knew the date in this case, but they provided me the model number which I didn't have. Worth a shot.

Thanks for posting this info! Took advantage and ordered some things online. Screwdrivers were in stock at my local stores, as were the impact socket sets.

    My Sears pliers closeout adventure.

Thank you for the 'heads-up', Coach! I was able to upgrade my pathetic plier collection with some good quality stuff, cheap! The 8 piece set was showing unavailable locally, so I opted for one of the 4 piece sets and ordered online for local pick up. Ends the local Sears store had an 8...

    Is this a Mac toolbox?

I have a MAC roller with a 1970 date code and it has the same drawer pulls. You can email MAC customer service about it -- they might confirm it for you and provide a model number. At least they did for me when I sent them an email with a photo. Funny, the frame of your cabinet looks...

    Saving a Craftsman Tool Chest

Zeeman- Just a quick note to say 'thank you' for sharing this project. It inspired me to take on a repaint of my dad's 1964 Cman chest that is identical to yours (but only needed a cosmetic refresh), plus a repaint of the MAC roller cabinet that he had it paired with. He's been gone over...
