    Hot Dawg venting question?

Sorry the unit i'm looking at is a 75k btu unit. I'm not sure how it could be cheaper to run a new vent instead of only going the couple of feet from the back of the unit to the cieling. It only requires a 4" vent so i would think connecting to a 6" would be better. My main concern is what to...

    Hot Dawg venting question?

Hi, I currently have a forced air oil furnace, however due to the expense and difficulty of getting the tank filled (need to change a bunch of stuff to satisfy the oil company). I've decided it would be better and cheaper to upgrade to a hanging style heater. My question is can I connect the...

    Trusses for shop

I'd call and get a quote for all the trusses. When I built my shop it was remarkably close to the same price to buy the lumber and build myself (even getting the lumber at a discount through my wife's work) vs. buying the trusses prebuilt and delivered to site. Quotes are usually free, then just...

    Over Kill for My aircompressor

I used a smaller version on my lift. While there is no problem now eventually my son (just over a year old now) will start coming to the garage, wether i'm there or not. I like the idea of being able to close and lock it to prevent an accident. Hopefully he'll be able to be trusted to just leave...

    Beer & Garage

Alpine Lager or Moosehead light. Both union brewed here in Saint John, New Brunswick Canada. The only exception is if I'm out and there is left overs someone left here, then any port in a storm. They don't sell them outside of New Brunswick so most here probably have'nt heard of them. A friend's...

    String Trimmers, AKA weed wackers

I was told (not sure if it's true or not) that echo and Stihl are the same. this will be the 3rd year for the Stihl I bought, and have been happy with it. I figured spending a little extra was worth it for the many resons mentioned above. I was shocked how close it was in price to the cheaper...

How to keep tools from rusting

My father did a bunch of research on what to use on an old tablesaw he got from my grandfather (on mother's side). He found some stuff called boeshield t-9. It just gets sprayed on and wiped off. and almost fells waxy to the touch. Coats only after use which can be months at a time. It is also...

    Framing a garage

If you can find someone with experience to help. Even if only for a few hours, it will make a world of difference in your confidence and speed. When I started building my shop, my father and I did not have much experience, my wife thought I was nuts when she came home from work to find Dad and I...

confirm torque setting for mohawk install

We've done 700 ft/lbs at work fairly routinely with a 5 ft torque wrench, any higher we usually go for a high torque (hydraulic torque wrench). A muliplier would also work with a smaller torque wrench.

    baffle ear plugs?

At work we use the disposable foam ones, I also use them at home when required. They got a few of us (i was in the lucky group) fitted for custom molded ear plugs as a trial, if we like them they are going to fit the rest of the people later. I also bought a pair for on the mower that are noise...

    How much to budget?

My original budget started out at $25,000 and somehow managed to make it to $38,000. I tell the wife it's not that bd if you say it fast. $9000 alone was for unforseen dirt work (over 50 loads of fill) and landscaping. It turned out nice but all the things that I kept saying this is good but...

    engine hoist

Thanks I'll probably see about ordering one of the Harbour freight ones. As much as I would like an I beam I really don't have anything to attach it to.

    engine hoist

Hi I'm trying to find a decent engine hoist? I will probably use it for mostly moving heavy stuff around the shop but ocassionally for engines. Does anybody have a good recommendation? I at one point thought about building a gantry type crane but decided an engine hoist would probably be easier...

west of Philly - barn saving

This is easily one of my favorite threads, I really like that your saving that old barn. It will truly be an amazing building when "done" (they never really are). And is already something to be tremendously proud of. Thank you for taking the time to share.
