We have access to a Hyundai Palisade that she's ridden in a fair amount but never driven, she seems to be ok with that so I think in the lines of that, Honda Pilot, GMC Acadia, Toyota Highlander type rides where there is a 3rd row but minimal storage space behind it. I don't like the prices of any of them so that's not helpful to the equation! I also am partial to vehicles being on the more "loaded" side of the options spectrum which doesn't help the price tag either.
I hope the Volvo holds out for you. I may be slightly biased, but if you do need a new car check out the Mazda CX-90. We rarely use the 3rd row, but it's nice to have when we need it. We got the bench seat so 3 kids can sit in the back every day going to school.

…and the best red out there….

That is a sharp color! Don't seem to see as many of those around as some of the other but might have to pay closer attention to those...thanks! I'm going to struggle with a red color though....too many of them around due to people showing "support" for the Nebraska Huskers of which I'm not a fan lo....though that's a bit deeper/more metallic it appears so might be tolerant of it cause it does look good!

....so many of my teams sport red, so it wasn't an issue. Besides, when we looked at the other colors, they just paled in comparison....this is our '26 CX-5....

My cousin has one and really likes it. We used to have the -9 with the bench and 3rd row and it was a good car, my wife really liked it......until we upgraded her to the Yukon XL Denali. That has probably been her favorite car out of all of them. We are on our second Wagoneer and honestly thinking about going back to the Yukon. This Wagoneer we have now has had a lot of electrical issues that almost 40k miles later are still intermittent and not resolved despite several dealer trips. Now the dealer changed their rules and has a no loaner policy so it's impossible with the kids to give up a car for several days in row to let them try "diagnose" it again. Usually when we take it in they just clear the codes and say we couldn't replicate or find anything. So I just do that at home now lol.

As a previously owner of a 2022 Hyundai Palisade, with 178k miles on it... stay away from the Palisade..... SOO many transmission issues. Mine was good, but i kept on regular mainteancne, but it was STARTING to shudder here and there. I've heard of some Palisades with trans issues as low as 65-75k.

Lol ironically that's exactly what we have access to with the inlaws ...think it's got like 70k on it....it's a secondary vehicle now so shouldn't rack up the miles but thanks for the warning!

We started with a 2005 Dodge Caravan, wayyyyy back. Easy to change the oil, decent mpg, and great with littles. That was the last and only Mopar product I've owned.

Then we went to an AWD Saturn Outlook(same as the Traverse/Acadia/Enclave), it was a great vehicle that we put 170k miles on, then my buddy bought it and it had the 3.6l timing chain issues. It worked even with 4 kids, but became cramped when traveling and lack of cargo room. My biggest gripe with that vehicle platform is the weight and at that time, the lack of tires, ours had the 19" wheels the "touring package" offered. It was hard on the car tires that were available, and finally Falken released their Wildpeak H/T in the correct size, so we were able to get some mileage out of them

From there it's been nothing but Suburbans, first a 2011 1/2t rig and then my '99 K2500 big block beast. There were (2) squarebody K5s in there too.

I'm the opposite of you, I despise tech and wizbangs. Cruise control and air conditioning are my main requirements. My wife requires heated seats, and likes the connectivity of phone to vehicle. She prefers a pickup at this stage and continues to love her Tacoma.

After having a Suburban, it would be difficult to not have one and go back to a smaller SUV, even with just 1 kid in the house. I would however keep the Suburban, and daily drive a 4Runner, Land Cruiser, or GMT400/800 Yukon.

The rampant electrical issues, coupled with the always questionable ownership of Chrysler will keep me from ever owning a new one. The Jeep and RAM brands are too valuable to not stay alive, but with how long I tend to own things it makes me question the ability to get service down the road when the parent company has been sold 2x in the last decade.

And ironically I just heard that they're taking the '22 Palisade for a transmission fluid service on Monday morning....55k miles....hopefully it helps!

Honestly had to look up the Saturn Outlook! Familiar with the timing chain issue on that 3.6L, my parents Enclave has the same thing....but it tossed the stretched timing chain code of death like 8k miles and 16 months ago...so it has a roughly 10 or 15 miles radius "limit"...going farther then that you take something else! At times I may be a bit bipolar on vehicles....I'm looking at things to make the Nova louder while the wife is complaining that hers is too loud....oh well.

In good news the new tires are a big improvement on the Volvo handling....bad news the first drain and flush doesn't seem to have reduced the ****** area noise. FCPEuro delivery on Monday of a fluid flush kit so I can drain and refill a couple more times and see what happens from there.

The time spent polishing the Nova has been time well spent, inlaws(the ones who gifted it to us) commented how shiny it is and father in law asked how long I spent polishing it to get it that shiny. I replied not sure....not done yet! But he was impressed with how bright it is....so that was good to hear! Took it out with him and the kids for a couple errands so we chatted a bit about the history on it...supposed to get some pictures of when he got it in the early 2000's in a week or two after they get back to Vegas and he finds them.

So random piece meal update

Mower starter been acting up....new one bolted on pretty easily....didn't fix it though...well $h!t, onto next steps

mower1.png

Needed to finish up the bomb tail end table for the neighbor

bombtable2.png

Drilled and tapped the wood directly for 1/2-13, reinforced the threads with some thin superglue, it's runny enough it runs down the threads and reinforces/seals them. Welded a "t" handle on a threaded rod and ran it thru, it won't be taken off probably ever after the top is finished so not worried about the threads. If it was going to be something that was taken apart a lot I would've used a metal threaded insert

bombtable1.png

Neighbor will finish the cleanup of the top epoxy, put a coat of finish on the bottom etc but she was very excited for it

Back on the Nova project....been driving it a bit more and when having fun with the loud pedal it seems to have a bit of a lag or slow to respond at times. Stopped by a local shop with a dyno and inquired about cost for them to get a dyno baseline and then some tuning work and they're busy enough they are turning down all carb work right now. ....but the thought had been started in my head.

On a different thread here on GJ, I learned about https://thecarbcheater.com/ and spent most of that night watching the youtube channel and reading on forums about it. Install is supposed to be simple and if it fails you're not SOL and it just works like it wasn't there....so it got ordered. Been a long time since I tuned a carb but I'll order a kit and excited to get it installed and dive in!

Before I get too ******* on it....need to do another drain and refill on the volvo, finish the rear speaker deck install....get rid of a bunch of stuff off upper garage shelves so I can put more **** away....

Oh yeah and debating installing an H pipe on the Nova exhaust as well....which as the new hardware kit needs an O2 sensor I could maybe kill welding the H pipe and the bung at the same time.

I’ve always been intrigued by the carbcheater kit. Thunderhead289 is interesting to watch. He got a lawnmower carb to work on a V8 engine.

Install starts next week(hopefully)....what's the preferred brand of beer to put in the fridge while you're assisting/supervising lol?

I hadn't watched the thunderhead289 channel before but definitely seems to know his way around carbs and programming. Played with the app some yesterday before pulling the trigger...excited to dive in!

And just rolled under the car to confirm 2-1/4" exhaust....wrong

2"....well ****....do i bit the bullet and go to a new 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" setup now....forget the H-pipe at this point and just get the O2 sensor on and worry about the rest over winter(probably where my heads at).....do the H-Pipe to see what happens and now understand that any significant HP work is probably going to require new exhaust sooner rather than later

Decisions decisions decisions...

2.5" now with an H-pipe. Some will say X-pipe, but I prefer the deeper tone of the H. 2" exhaust really isn't letting that 350 breathe, especially with an upgraded cam. No sense in tuning the carb and then opening up the exhaust flow to just have to do it again.

Unfamiliar with this carbcheater, I'll have to check it out.

Tough call, I see there's an airport in Omaha so I can be there quicker then driving! LOL

If you got the coin to spare, might as well get the exhaust done too. They have those ******** bung holes (that sounds wrong) for exhaust that would be perfect for just installing the system on the 2" now and then upgrade later to a bigger exhaust with not much money or work in the temporary setup.

I'll be following along on the carb cheater. My FIL's 69 Nova is running like **** now - probably bad gas. As he has passed, my SIL wants the car and has already bought a Sniper kit for it. We'll see which way we go!

You've struck my curiosity on the carb cheater, haven't had a chance to watch the videos, but hope to. I've just tuned via vacuum gauge seems to get you in the ball park. Will be following along for sure. Pretty nova btw

Don't tease me....

Oops...

Really pretty clean, been shedded most of it's life the last 40 years and don't think it had left the shed in at least 10. Tires still hold air so we used the backhoe to pull it out and spin the front around to get it pointed the right way. Using the hoe like a crane made fast work of placing the cab and bed as well.

Buyer would fit in well with this crowd....goal is to have a 4wd of every body style Chevy pickup....and he wants them to be drivers not yard art!
