I have to say my 1/2 proto ratchet (54 tooth) is extremely smooth! I really like my f80 though.

These are engines with a lot of load on them and they run constantly at high rpm. It could be there is oil entering the combustion chamber and then gets forged back between the cilynder and the piston into the crankcase. The oil will get black really quickly because of the exhaust fumes and...

Ok, thanks :)! Yeah it works just fine, but when I first got it I thought the main nut was broken or something. I also found out the lead screw fits really sloppy in the threads of the main nut. I can even move the lead screw up and down a bit while it's fully screwed in in the main nut.

Just a quick question. How much play in an old vise is normal? When my vise (American Scale) isn't fully closed there is some play in the knob at the front of the vise. I can move it up, down, left and right about 3/16 of an inch (I can't move it in or out though). It also has some play in the...

Try some Hazet or Gedore ratcheting wrenches! I don't have any of them, but I've got some other tools from those brands and I can tell you, you won't be disappointed with them! They are really nice tools and I'm pretty sure they are made in Germany :)

@jedigazza: you got some very nice tools there! I absolutely love that ko-ken socket set, but those Stahlwille wrenches and NWS pliers are really sweet too :)

Tools for sale that are located near my home. I always seem to buy things that are more than 100 miles from where I live :D

I own Proto, Diamalloy, Kraftwerk, Kongsberg, Craftsman, Dowidat and I have to say my Proto is by far my best although it's 59 years old and my Kraftwerk is only 1 year old.

I wouldn't open them! You can always open them if you want, but you can never close them once they're open... I really love those old Britool tools :)
